Mum explains how body insecurities made her hate a candid photo with her daughter

Olivia White, the blogger behind House of White, has a struggle most of us can relate to.

She posed for a lovely, candid photo with her daughter at the beach, but couldn’t see it for what it was: A nice moment captured on camera.

Instead she could only see one thing: Her stomach.

Olivia didn’t want to share the photo with her followers – she felt self-conscious and embarrassed about the way she looked. But she decided to push herself, posting the photo to her Instagram to make it clear to anyone else struggling with body image issues that they’re not alone – and to remind herself that the… Read the full story

Remember when you used to write to Santa?

You’d try and be super nice and sycophantic, doing your best handwriting with your best fountain pen in the hope that this year he’d take pity and finally deliver you a pet pie-ball mouse (no? Just me then…).

But you know, times have changed and kids have become as cold as ice.

Just look at Sarah McCammon’s six-year-old.

He wrote possibly the bleakest letter to Santa possible.

In fact, he’s sort of skipped childhood altogether to become one of us – hilariously bitter.

Blame all the snuggling up in blankets and drinking mulled wine, but winter makes us want to make our hair the embodiment of cosy-ness.

We dye our hair shades darker, suddenly have a craving for luscious waves rather than anything edgy, and buy into comforting trends such as PB & J hair or locks tinted to look like pumpkin spice.

But to be clear, winter hair doesn’t always have to mean going darker – you can get that ~cosy~ look while sticking to your roots.

Behold cider and spice hair.

First noticed by Allure, cider and spice hair is… Read the full story

Marks & Spencer is being slammed by shoppers and scientists for selling apples in a plastic tube to fit in car cup holders.

The retailer is selling three Baby Rockit apples in plastic cylinder-shaped packets but this has come under fire from customers.

Professor Brendan Godley, a conservation science lecturer at Exeter University, tweeted a picture of the tube, criticising its ‘irresponsible’ overuse of plastic.

He tweeted: ‘We should be recycling essential plastics and ablating non-essential uses from the market place and companies like Marks and Spencer are in a great position to lead.’

They say you should be careful what you ask for.

And that’s never been more the case in these days of social media.

There you are joking around, bragging about what you’ll do if you get enough shares, the next, you’re stuck wearing a Chrismas tree outfit for three weeks straight.

Student Kelsey Hall uploaded a photo of herself wearing a ridiculous tree costume a few days ago, saying that if she got 1,000 retweets, she’d wear it to class for the rest of the term.

Well…she’s got 14,829 shares so far and nearly 24,000 likes so it looks like she’s stuck.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with having sex on the first date

Like most women, I grew up believing that if you really liked a guy, you should ‘make’ him wait for sex.

Then I got older and had a bit more sex (without always waiting for three dates, a romantic dinner and a bed covered in rose petals) and realised that the ‘no sex if you want it to turn into a relationship’ was a total myth.

It’s perfectly possible to have a relationship with someone you’ve bonked on the first date. Or even bonked without there having been a date at all.

Unfortunately, not everyone seems to have got that memo. I regularly hear women – educated women… Read the full story

We’ll admit that we were at a bit of a loss after we discovered the existence of vagina themed baubles.

They were just so great. The tiny jingle bells for the clitoris were an excellent touch.

But how could we top a tree decked out in vulvae? How could we make this Christmas feel fresh and new, while still sticking to the theme of celebrating our bodies?

We have found the answer: Boob baubles (or boobles, as we like to call them).

Boobles are little knitted spherical breasts that you can hang from your Christmas tree. They’re the creation of Etsy-er SPLILTHdesign, who also makes knitted breasts you… Read the full story

Katelyn Hoglund and her husband Jeffrey are both former heroin addicts who beat their habits with the help of their dogs before meeting by chance and falling in love.

The pair got married this year and now live happily with their three pit bulls and Great Dane, Jack.

But before meeting two years ago, they lived a thousand miles apart, dealing with severe substance abuse issues.

Both had been arrested and ended up getting dogs after being released – which they say gave them something to live for.

Alas, Katelyn’s first pup, Zero, died when she was in rehab but she later got two more.

‘My life before consisted of nothing more than snorting… Read the full story

No party bag is complete without a load of Maoam Stripes, amirite?

There’s nothing more pure and fun in this world than chowing down on a brightly coloured, highly sugary chew that inevitably tries to rip out your fillings.

They’re free from artificial colours but ‘full on chew’.

‘Nothing chews like a Maoam and there’s so many Maoams to chewse from.’

Except if you’re a vegan, vegetarian or a practising Muslim, that is.

Because, my friends, Maoams contain gelatine.

And if you don’t know exactly what that is, it’s a substance extracted from the bones and skins of cattle and pigs. They boil skin, cartilage and bones for ages and eventually you get this kind of… Read the full story

Parents who haven’t done their Christmas shopping quite yet might be about to run into a bit of trouble, as three of the year’s most popular presents have already sold out.

(Just to clarify, we are not judging you for your lack of Christmas shopping. If you’re keeping small humans alive day-to-day you’re a hero as far as we’re concerned.)

But, even though we’re not judging you, you’re going to really struggle to get hold of some specific products unless you get a wiggle on.

Why do we take down Christmas decorations 12 days after Christmas? (Picture: Getty)

Twelfth Night is traditionally the date to take down your twinkling Christmas decorations and box them up for another year.

It is a festival in some branches of Christianity, marking the end of Christmas and the coming of the Epiphany – the Christian celebration of the Three Kings visiting Jesus.

In Western Church traditions, the Twelfth Night concludes the Twelve Days of Christmas, however in others, the Twelfth Night can come before the twelfth day.

Prince Harry managed to land Meghan Markle and people are searching for an explanation.

That’s not a diss on Harry, to be clear. He’s great. It’s just that Meghan Markle is bloody stunning, smart, and generally brilliant – so we’d question anyone who managed to attract her.

Some people reckon it might be down to Harry’s accent (you know, rather than his massive wealth, royalty, or a charming personality).

New research from MissTravel has found that American women find a British accent the sexiest for men, with 20% saying they’re most attracted to men with a British accent.

For men, however, things are a little different. American men… Read the full story

How the bubbles in champagne indicate its quality
(Picture: Getty)

We all love a glass of bubbly.

But while you’ve been too busy drinking the stuff, researchers have been busy at work finding out whether the size and sound of champagne bubbles can give clues to the quality.

Study co-author Doctor Kyle Spratt and his colleagues say in their recently published paper that it’s a ‘hardly accepted theory’ that you can judge the quality of sparkling wine from the bubbles.

But they maintain that bubbles *could* play a role in determining how expensive that bottle should be.

The University of Texas at Austin researcher said: ‘The point of the project is to study the sounds that champagne… Read the full story

A mum-of-six who couldn’t sit down for more than 10 years because of orange-sized abscesses covering her bum has had the scars they left behind covered with an enormous Cheryl-style rose tattoo.

36-year-old Nicola Fletcher, from Blackpool, first started developing the sores when she was just 18 as a result of Crohn’s disease, a form of inflammatory bowel disease that causes inflammation of the entire digestive tract.

Nicola says she endured 10 years of ‘horrific pain’ – during which time she couldn’t even sit down and was forced to kneel or stand.

According to Nicola, she first started experiencing symptoms of Crohn’s at 10 years old, finding she was… Read the full story
