Time to kick the filter habit (Picture: Funmi Olutoye/Snapchat)

I’ve decided that 2018 is the year I decide to wear less makeup and cut down on Snapchat filters.

By that I don’t mean that instead of seven layers of foundation I’ll wear five.

6 emotions you go through after buying bad hair extensions

I mean there are some days I will just not wear any makeup at all and I will resist the urge to filter every picture and video on Snapchat.

It’s all because one day I had no… Read the full story

TEACHER HOSPITALISED BY ECZEMA CURES CRIPPLING SKIN CONDITION WITH UDDER CREAM
(Picture: MERCURY PRESS)

Megan Underwood has suffered from chronic eczema her whole life.

It’s been so bad in fact, that she’s even been hospitalised.

But she’s now found a cure for the condition – udder cream.

Yep, Meghan has managed to reduce the itchy, painful skin disorder by using cream often employed by dairy farmers to keep cows’ udders soft and supple.

‘By the time I was 18, my eczema was horrendous,’ Megan recalls.

‘Without causing offence to anybody who has burns, I looked like a burns victim. My skin was red raw. It was also swollen because of water retention under my skin.

If you are a musician who is having problems with their banjo – I’m sorry but you’ve landed on the wrong page.

The banjo strings we are talking about do not refer to the musical variety but the penis variety.

If you’re a man and you’ve ever torn your banjo string then you will definitely know what it is.

But, for the uninitiated, the proper term is the frenulum and it is a small bit of skin found on the underside of the penis, between the foreskin and the shaft.

When you plan a family, it’s normal to think about what sex you’d like your children to be.

Personally I’d like a boy and two girls (not that I’ll be calling an adoption agency if they come out in any other order). But some people decide to do a little more than simply hoping for the best or following old wives tales about drinking lemon juice or eating lots of red meat.

For some couples, the desire to have a child of a specific sex is so strong that they’ll opt for sex selective IVF.

Sex selective IVF is currently illegal in the UK, however in Cyprus,… Read the full story

Not again (Picture: Mark Andrew Webber for Metro.co.uk)

Winter is finally here and with it the challenge to keep your children happy, healthy and warm despite the cold weather.

Or, more accurately, despite the children themselves.

5 things that happen at every family party

There’s nothing more infuriating than being told umpteen times by well-meaning strangers that your child should be wearing shoes/gloves/a hat in this weather.

Especially when said items are in the pushchair hood after your child has pulled them off for the dozenth time since you set off.

Or being disturbed at night and forced to resettle the toddler who has woken… Read the full story

The fitness tracker industry in booming (Picture: Getty)

You may see fitness apps such as Fitbit and other trackers setting a default goal of 10,000 steps a day.

This may sound like monumental task but Fitbit say that this default is in place to include 30 minutes of daily exercise which satisfies the CDC’s recommendation of at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week.

You might think that with the recent rise in veganism and environmental awareness, that fur would be deeply unfashionable.

But pick up this month’s copy of Vogue and you’ll find an advert claiming the opposite is true.

Despite fashion houses like Gucci, Michael Kors and Armani pledging to go fur-free, February’s edition features a campaign by the International Fur Federation saying: ‘Fur Now And Forever’.

The full page advert – which is said to be worth up to £20,000 – shows three models lounging back, dressed in various animal skins and furs.

And people aren’t happy about it.

Ben Williamson, senior international media director at Peta, has accused British Vogue of allowing ‘this cruel… Read the full story

Sorry to ruin your very hygge home, but we have some worrying news about that fantasy you’ve cooked up about Muji interiors with an elderly cat walking around.

In case you weren’t aware of this, using essential oils in an aroma diffuser can be seriously dangerous for your cat.

After a Facebook post went viral in which a woman shared the story of her cat, Ernie, being poisoned by a diffuser spreading eucalyptus oil throughout the bedroom, we asked the RSPCA just how risky keeping an aroma diffuser in a house you share with a cat really is.

Turns out it’s really not a good idea.

‘Essential oils are hazardous to cats and can… Read the full story

A rare disorder has made a young woman allergic to everything – including her own tears, growing hair and exercise.

22-year-old Natasha Coats, from Nottingham, has an immunological disorder called Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS), which causes severe allergic-like symptoms due to the mast cells over-responding to a trigger such as food or weather.

Natasha told Barcroft TV: ‘Mast Cells, which live in your bone marrow and surround all your major organs are responsible for releasing things such as histamine.

‘The cells in my body react inappropriately. So for example, if… Read the full story

These amazing and intimate portraits illustrate lesbianism through the ages

19th century lesbians photo series

Lesbian has had an interesting history, in that it sort of hasn’t had one.

Where homosexuality between men was illegal, actively hunted and punishable by a prison sentence, lesbian was just sort of… ignored. It might not have dangerous like being a gay man was, but it also wasn’t really recognised. Women were just written off as being close, as being companions, and left alone to enjoy their ‘friendship’.

While being ignored is better than being hunted, it still meant that real and important romantic relationships were kept in the shadows and not recognized at being equally valid. Which is why photos like this… Read the full story

An image of a lipstick stain on a toilet bowl is currently circulating Twitter and it’s seriously confusing people.

Twitter user @ClawedHumour shared a photo of the lipstick kiss mark on 9 January, titling it ‘Stranger Things – 2018’.

And it’s frustrating people.

Since the image was posted, Twitter users have been coming up with their own theories as to why the toilet bowl looks to have been kissed by someone wearing red lipstick.

There are bold make up looks… then there are looks that incorporate real life bugs on your face.

American artist Jasmine Ahumada’s looks are like an an artsy Bushtucker trial for your face (at least you don’t have to eat it). By which we mean makeup including spiders, meal worms, millipedes, bees and even a scorpion.

The designs show off Jasmine’s creative chops as she draws intricate patterns around the dead bugs, usually perched on her eyebrow or on the corner of her eye.

She told Metro.co.uk the nature theme comes as part of her personal project to extend her creativity.

Hotels, meanwhile, have perks like room service, free breakfasts, spa services, and other amenities.

You might be torn between the two but new research from money-saving website vouchercloud has revealed which European destinations are a better fit for your choice of accommodation.

Malta, Portugal and Switzerland are among the holiday hotspots you might opt for an Airbnb, as a three star hotel will cost more than double the cost of the average… Read the full story

You know the drill.

You’re driving somewhere when suddenly, you desperately, urgently, need to do a wee. You are bursting.
