Young women are often unable to accept themselves, criticising what they don’t like and finding it hard to see the unique ways in which they are beautiful.

Eva Woolridge set out to change this by asking her classmates at the University of Maryland: ‘what do you find beautiful about yourself?’

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘We rarely hear women praising a part of their body that they love.

‘Could you imagine how beautiful the world would be if we embrace the essences that make us uniquely beautiful?’

6 things not to say to somebody with anxiety

Depression can be treated by St John's wort. (Picture: Getty Images)

Some people have this misconception of what anxiety is and therefore tend to treat it like any other type of stress.

Although anxiety may contain moments of stress, it is so much more than that.

Anxiety is the unknown feeling of worry, of guilt. A nervousness that never seems to leave your body.

Anxiety attacks can occur at any time, and should be taken seriously.

When somebody’s having a complete melt down over the thought of entering into a social environment, be cautious and attentive.

Don’t belittle or ignore. Here’s a few things you should avoid saying to somebody with anxiety:

“Calm down!”

This is probably one of the worst things you could possibly say to somebody with anxiety. How can you expect somebody to calm down when they themselves can’t fully comprehend the feelings they are experiencing?

“I get like that too”

I’m sure you do get like that. To an… Read the full story

The dream (Picture: Studio NL)

What’s under your desk?

If you’re anything like team Metro.co.uk it’ll be four pairs of shoes, a gym kit, and a couple of broken umbrellas you haven’t the heart to throw away.

But just imagine if under your desk there was a cosy little sleeping compartment, where you could take a power-nap and rest your tired eyes.

Well that daydream is now a reality. Yes my friends, someone has actually created a desk/ bed hybrid, and it looks as utterly glorious as you’d imagine.

Scotland is famous for its castles which can be found all over the country.

Often in a state of ruin, a few have survived or been restored to their former glory.

From tower houses to fairytale designs, medieval fortresses and royal residencies, the variety of castles in Scotland is remarkable.

Some have become popular public attractions while some have remained in private hands and although they are all dramatic in their own way, these are 12 of the most iconic and awe-inspiring Scottish castles.

I was first diagnosed with bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, when I was 24.

Since then I’ve spent many years hiding it from friends, family and colleagues.

It’s only recently I’ve started writing and speaking openly about it, in the hope that other people, with or without mental health conditions, feel less afraid of them.

While I can’t speak for everyone with manic depression, bipolar disorder, ups and downs or whatever you choose to call it, I believe we have some things in common.

Here’s 21 things you only know if you’re bipolar.

1. It’s hard to finish one thing at a time

On the way up, you start doing… Read the full story

It seems that a child’s sex may all be down to its father’s waistline.

A new study has found that overweight and obese men are significantly more likely to father sons than their slimline counterparts.

The research, which was published in the journal of fertility and sterility, studied 8,500 couples undergoing fertility treatment.

While the slim men fathered 611 boys and 569 girls – which is perfectly in line with the typical seven per cent pro-male sex ratio – the overweight and obese men were a massive 27 per cent more likely to father sons.

Is masculinity toxic? (Picture: Getty/Nestle/Manflu/Remia)

At risk of sounding like a 90s stand-up comedian: Men’s tissues – what’s up with that?

Do men produce vastly more snot than women, to the point that they need extra large, extra manly tissues when they have a cold?

And shower gels – surely your only requirement for a shower gel is that it gets you clean? But no, according to Radox, if you’re a man you also need to Feel Heroic, or Feel Powerful in the shower.

It’s things like these that sparked the #MasculinitySoFragile hashtag that’s currently trending.

That, in turn, sparked a backlash from angry dudes who don’t like having their masculinity called into question by uppity feminists,… Read the full story

There’s only one time when tiny portions of food are acceptable – and that’s when you’re going to wear it, not eat it.

Sara, aged 19, makes the cutest jewellery that looks good enough to eat (but don’t do that as it’s made from clay).

The Italian artist has brought together our two favourite loves, food and jewellery, and made teeny wearable charms that will make your heart smile.

Each piece is never quite the same as they’re homemade – she literally bakes them in her oven at home to harden up before selling them on Etsy.

And we want every single one.

Having dreams about an ex? Here’s what they mean

0

Having dreams about an ex can be unnerving and leave you feeling confused, or perhaps guilty if you are currently in a new relationship.

They can make you question your feelings while you attempt to understand why you dreamt about that person.

But do not fear, there may be other reasons as to why you’re dreaming about that guy that dumped you for your friend three years ago.

And according to analysis on dreammoods.com, they’re a little more reassuring than you’d think.

Dreaming about being visited by an ex

Dreaming about being visited by an ex can mean that you are reflecting on positive past experiences.

It doesn’t necessarily mean you miss that person though. It can also mean that you are encountering similar qualities in another person – perhaps your new partner?

Dreaming about getting back together with an ex

This does not, and I note does not mean that you want to try again with an ex.

When you are suffering with a mental illness, it’s hard to accept that it’s nothing to be ashamed of – especially when the illness you are suffering from is anxiety.

All mental illnesses are hard to live with. But the very nature of anxiety causes extreme worrying, panic and uneasiness – which makes it hard to deal with the condition rationally.

To remind those living with it that they are not alone, Anxiety UK’s Laura Whitehurst started the #HighFiveForAnxiety campaign yesterday on Twitter.

And it’s been beautiful.

The campaign has created a community among people who are often too worried to speak about what they’re going through.

People have shared photos of themselves high fiving, showing how anxiety can affect anyone, anywhere in the world.

10 things nurses want you to know

Nurses are a bunch of pretty complex people.

I’ve often heard it said that there’s at least two sides to every nurse: the one you see on the ward, and the one going home to their family at the end of their shift.

Some people might argue there’s also the nurse in the break room, the nurse in the ward round meeting the doctor, and of course, the nurse behind the mask not saying what they’re thinking…

So here are 10 things nurses want you to know:

1. You might think we don’t care, but we ALWAYS do

Nurses do a lot of things, and we may be rushing about the ward or flustered. Because we care about you, the first thing… Read the full story

They call him ‘Bear Grylls’. No, really.

A driver got the shock of her life when she returned home to find a koala wedged in the front grill of her car.

Loren Davis, a real estate agent from Perth, Australia, was driving on a busy freeway when the koala ran out in front of her.

She slammed on her brakes and pulled over to look back, but saw no sign of the little guy, so assumed he’d escaped just in time.

But when she got home – 10km later – she discovered the poor chap was actually wedged into the front grill of her car.

No this is not Freshers’ Week – this is Butlin’s.

The iconic British holiday camp has drawn in tens of millions of holiday makers since it first launched in 1936.

Once the go-to desination for working class British families, the resort took a hit from the 1970s onward as cheap package holidays lured Brits abroad.

In recent years, Butlin’s has invested millions of pounds and re-branded itself in an attempt to recapture the glory of its heyday.

Best friend gif

No matter how annoying, rude or immature you think your boyfriend’s mates are, it’s pretty important you make the effort to get along with them. Here’s why:

You’ll go out more

At one point or another you’ve probably come across the ‘why don’t you invite me out with your friends?’ argument. Often, it’s just because he wants some time to chill and do man things (whatever they are). But sometimes there’s a whole different reason entirely.

If you don’t interact with his mates or take the time to get to know them, they might not warm to you so much.

They’ll see you as a whole different part of your partner’s life. Making an effort with them will allow you to do more group activities, and will make you feel like ‘part of the gang’.

Your relationship will improve

Becoming friends with his friends and wanting to spend time with them all will show him you’re… Read the full story
