This is Madam Eyebrows.

She’s an English bulldog who lives in Germany with her human family and best friend Luna. And she’s got pretty distinctive markings which go towards her overall unique look…kinda like a sad dog clown.

‘She always looked sad and had eyebrows,’ her owner, Janina, tells The Dodo.

But don’t be fooled by her permanently grumpy, disenchanted look. Janina says that Madame is actually very happy and goes around wiggling her tail and giving kisses.

‘In real life, you have to see her only a few minutes and you see that she is happy. We don’t see only her sad face. We see how funny she… Read the full story

I don’t know what you think of when you think about brown men, but I think about my dad; Dev Patel off Slumdog Millionaire; and my local corner shop guys bumping Jason Derulo on their phones.

The first picture that pops into my mind is a strapping, stoic salt-and-pepper bearded man – not unlike my dad – with his sleeves rolled up.

We all think we know how to make the perfect cuppa.

Every now and then, someone new comes out claiming that we’ve all been making it wrong,  throwing us into a tea-stained fug of confusion.

But few are more qualified to tell us how tea should be made than a member of the royal household.

And according to former royal butler Grant Harrold, there’s a particular method of brewing a cup worthy of the Queen herself.

He revealed the four steps to the perfect royal cup on BBC Three series, Miss Holland:

  1. Pour the tea into the cup from a teapot
  2. Add milk to the cup after the tea – never before
  3. Stir… Read the full story

Plastic-free living is hard.

And it can seem slightly pointless when you live somewhere so far removed from the effects of plastic pollution.

Go on holiday to some of the most Instagrammable of locations, however, and you’ll see exactly why we need to cut down on the bottles, bags and coffee cup lids.

Blogger Amelia Whelan has been sharing the grim reality of exotic beaches in Bali – the side you don’t see on all these #wanderlust feeds.

‘This is the real sh*t that you don’t see on your newsfeed,’ she says.

Avocado dog Diller
Who’s a good boy? Who’s a good boy? (Picture: Robert Moser)

The world is full of very good dogs and the one your eye holes are looking at right now is a particularly good dog, if you’re a fan of guacamole.

Diller the dog lives on a horse ranch in California, with his dog family and his humans.

Not long after they all moved in, Diller discovered two abandoned avocado trees in an old orchard and began eating the delicious green fruit.

Diller eats the flesh of the fruit, then meticulously cleans the stone, delivering the polished pit to his owner, Robert Moser.

Moser had tried growing avocado trees from extracted… Read the full story

Mary Crumpton has more men in her life than the average 44-year-old.

As well as a husband, she also has a fiancé and two boyfriends.

The former teacher started exploring polyamory aged 29, having been brought up in pretty traditional surroundings.

‘I was brought up in quite a traditional home,’ she says.

‘I had boyfriends and was monogamous. Having more than one partner never crossed my mind. In my twenties, I got married and settled down in Chorlton fully intending to be with my husband for life.

This is Goma.

She’s a little pup who’s become something of an internet celebrity, thanks to her huge mouse-like ears.

Goma, whose name means sesame in Japanese, is a Maltese-Papillon cross, and that’s where her ears come from.

She lives in Tokyo but has become a global sensation after being named ‘Mickey Mouse dog’.

Who knew having such big ears could be so goddamn cute?

She’s like something out of a comic book or Disney film.

One can only imagine how long it takes the dog groomer to chop her fur into such precise circles.

Having an abortion isn’t always a sad or difficult decision, and that’s okay

Right now the debate is raging about whether women in Ireland should be granted access to abortions.

The debate is referred to on social media as #repealthe8th – a reference to the eight amendment in Irish law which bans abortion.

As part of this discussion I’ve noticed the same narrative being repeated over and over again. People expressing the sentiment that ‘having an abortion is never an easy choice,’ that ‘having an abortion is heartbreakingly sad’ or that ‘having an abortion is hugely traumatic’.

It’s a narrative that, in theory, supports women. But it’s also untrue.

For some women, having an abortion is a difficult choice. But for others – many,… Read the full story

This is Lil Miquela.

She’s a 19-year-old Brazilian American influencer, model and pop star who’s Instagram is chock-full of photos of her sporting Chanel, Supreme and Prada.

Among all the candid selfies, her feed also shows her hanging out with other models and musicians.

And although she’s got 900,000 followers, she’s not actually real.

Miquela is a computer-generated cyborg and no one knows who has created her.

Once you realise that she’s basically a Sim, she starts to look less genuine. Although loads of her followers have clocked, some are still confused – and some just don’t seem to care. They still comment on how much they love her hair or clothes.

A few years ago, if someone said to me they’d had an out of body experience, I would have argued that they’ve been reading too many Stephen King novels.

However, three years ago, I found myself trapped inside a chilling alternate reality that questioned every belief system I’ve ever held.

We’re all aware that we need to cut down on plastic.

It’s clogging landfill, choking our oceans, and ruining otherwise idyllic holiday photos.

But it’s easy to ignore all this when we’re making the decision whether to bother washing that plastic yoghurt pot or not.

However, it’s a lot harder to ignore when you’re collecting every single piece of plastic you use and storing it in your house – which is exacting what artist Daniel Webb did for an entire… Read the full story

If you want to get strong, have fun and learn some serious party tricks, try calisthenics

Head to most yoga classes these days and there’ll be a point where everyone suddenly goes into a head or handstand.

If like me, you’re there faceplanting the floor, it can be far from a zen experience.

When did everyone become gymnasts? What happened to regular vinyasa flow and a good dose of Yoga Nidra?

If you do want to send your feet skywards, however, perhaps your best bet might be to start learning calisthenics.

You’ve probably seen calisthenics practitioners online, hanging from bridges with one hand or squatting on one leg…on a ledge…overhanging a ravine. It doesn’t look like the kind of thing that normos do.

Except, it is. And there’s a place you can learn it: the School of Calisthenics.

I met with Tim Stevenson (Head of Exercise Science & Handstands) and David Jackson (Head of Education and Human Flags), both former professional rugby players, to see if they could help me learn to do something remotely impressive.

Häagen-Dazs are one of the big players in the ice cream game and they made little vegan dreams come true last year when they launched dairy-free tubs in the USA.

They’ve now upped their game by releasing more vegan flavours, and their first ever non-dairy frozen dessert bars

The dessert bars come in two flavours – coconut caramel dark chocolate (coconut cream swirled with caramel sauce and dipped in dark chocolate), and peanut butter chocolate fudge (smooth peanut butter swirled with chocolate fudge, coated in dark chocolate).

Both sound hella dreamy, we think you’ll agree.

On this week’s mental health podcast, Mentally Yours, we talked about what it’s like planning and having a wedding when you’re managing a long-term mental health issue.

Metro bloggers Abigail Chandler and Fiona Thomas discussed how anxiety and depression can make organising the big day challenging.

‘I suppose everything’s just times 10. For me my anxiety is triggered by stress, particularly emotional stress, so something like planning a wedding is just a perfect storm really,’ said Abigail.

‘I have anxiety and depression and they kind of go hand in hand, and my trigger’s always stress, so I would get stressed about a tiny little thing and then that would make me anxious and the comedown from that was always depression,’ said Fiona.

The writers chatted about dresses, cakes, chair covers and trying to stay calm(ish), offering handy advice to other soon-to-be brides.

‘Ask for help. I’m really bad at asking for help and even though I know that… Read the full story

Teaching can be rewarding but has become for many an utterly thankless, hard task.

She’s now quit her job – but not posting an epic rant online that has resonated with thousands of people and prompted an outpouring of sympathy from other teachers struggling to cope.
