A litter of adorable kittens have been rescued after a passer-by heard their cries from inside a sealed box in some woods near Grimsby.

The four kittens, who are thought to be around 10-weeks-old, were left without food or water and were covered in fleas, but have now thankfully made a full recovery.

The Blue Cross animal hospital in Grimbsy who took them in have named the brother and three sisters Amy, Penny, Bernadette and Sheldon, after the characters The Big Bang Theory, and are happy to report that Amy has already found a new home.

Tracy Lang, Veterinary Nurse at Blue Cross animal hospital in Grimsby said: ‘This adorable litter of kittens were very lucky to… Read the full story

We know haunted houses are meant to be scary, but this one is actual psychological torment.

As in, it’s so scary the owners of The 17th Door are making visitors sign waivers, so they’re not liable if you’re permanently traumatised from the experience.

Eek.

The Californian haunted house is themed around the dark and twisted world of college student Paula, with each of the 17 rooms taking you through the dissolution of her torturous life.

And it looks creepy AF.

The world pays so much attention to pandas and tigers as ‘flagship’ endangered species. But there’s so many creatures out there that are way more awesome and far more diverse that also deserve saving. Here’s one of them. And how you can help.

The Matschie’s tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus matschiei) is exactly that, a kangaroo that lives in trees. And not just a few feet up in your garden hedge, they live high up in the rainforest canopy, feeding and sleeping about 100ft above ground. And they’re perfectly adapted to life up there.

(Picture: Ella’s Kitchen)

Things change so fast in the world of parenting – and for every year that passes, there seems to be a new term for us all to get our heads round.

We’ve all heard of the terrible twos and several other stages through to THOSE teenage years (*shudder*) – but there’s now a recognised phase your baby can experience long before that whole nightmare.

During the weaning stage at approximately 6-12 months, your baby is likely to show certain behaviours. Research by kids’ food brand Ella’s Kitchen pinpointed the significant life period and drew up 10 tell-tale signs that your baby could be one of 350,000 in the UK who would be considered ‘weanagers’.

20 things you’ll only know if you have trouble sleeping

When you get home from a long day ready to fall into bed to enter a world of sweet, sweet slumber, the worst possible thing that can happen is that you can’t sleep.

I’m not talking chronic insomnia, nor am I talking about that half an hour struggle to drift off.

I’m talking long, agitated hours tossing and turning in bed as you try your hardest to shut off from the world. Broken sleep. Waking up every three hours or so from horrific nightmares that leave you scared to reenter what you hoped would be your happy place.

You have to get up at 6am, you don’t need this.

Why do bad things happen to good people?

Here’s what you’ll know if you have trouble sleeping.

1. You clock-watch like crazy.

11pm. Okay, that’s fine, I still have time to get somewhat a decent night’s sleep.

11:30pm, seriously? Where did that half an hour go? Oh, I know, on my excruciating attempt… Read the full story

Sorry winter babies, but science has just shown it’s all about summer birthdays.

Research at Cambridge University has found that babies born in the summer months don’t just get to enjoy their birthday in the sunshine, they tend to be taller and healthier too.

The researchers discovered that babies born in June, July and August were on average heavier at birth and taller as adults.

Whereas babies born in December, January and February tended to be lighter at birth and shorter at adults.

What I thought I’d know by the time I was 20

(Picture: sophiadphotography/Flickr)

Although we don’t officially celebrate our 20s until we turn 21, 20 is truly the first step into adulthood.

It’s the first year we don’t have to add a ‘teen’ on to our age.

It somehow sounds more adult-like. More mature. And sounding more mature must mean we automatically become more mature right?

Suddenly, we’re responsible and we think only for ourselves and we know how to make it in life.

Sadly, my expectations of what it meant to turn 20 were completely and utterly wrong.

Unfortunately, life just doesn’t work so routinely.

By the time I was 20, I thought I’d be in control. I assumed that I’d finished seeking help and advice from others. I thought it was the end to asking questions, to following instructions.… Read the full story

Kids Licks - EDIBLE ORGANIC NAIL POLISH
Nail polish you can eat. Why not. (Picture: Kid Licks)

Biting your nails may be a sign of perfectionism (possibly), but that doesn’t mean it’s not a tad unhygienic, bad for your teeth, and generally not a great idea.

But while nail-biters are meditating, wearing gloves, and stocking up on ultra bitter polish to keep their fingers away from their mouths, one company is taking an alternative approach: accept that your nails are going to interact with your mouth, and at least make sure they taste nice.

Presenting Kid Licks: a range of all-natural, entirely edible nail polish made from fruit and vegetables.

Rejoice, fans of wordless communication: new emoji are (possibly) coming.

Unicode has just shared the newest candidates for new emoji. They’re very exciting.

The new emoji have been proposed for next June – just in time for the Summer Olympics – so include a load of sportsy options.

Soon, you’ll be able to live-text the entirety of the world’s biggest sports and athletics event, with a person doing a cartwheel (also handy for expressing extreme excitement), fencers, horse-riders, and gold, silver, and bronze medals.

There’s also a proposed triathalon emoji, which we think could be a tad too complicated to get approved.

What it’s really like to suffer with extreme OCD

Opening up about OCD is scary for many reasons.

Being judged by others and the disbelief from friends and family, that may have known you your entire life but failed to notice there was more going on inside your head than most.

It’s also hard to talk about because there are so many underlying variations of the disorder. What I’m writing is my experience only, and does not go for every other sufferer of OCD.

First, I’d also just like to state that I have OCD.

I’m not OCD. I hate that term.

An illness doesn’t define you. If you were suffering with a cold, you wouldn’t say ‘I’m cold’ would you? Okay, well maybe you would if you were actually feeling cold. But you get my drift.

Isn’t he the most adorable thing in the world?

But yet, we can’t help but feel kind of worried for the poor thing, because, with one hand on the paw and the other taking the video… who the hell is driving?!

Harnaam Kaur, was just 11-years-old when she first began to grow a beard as a result of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), a condition which can cause excessive hair growth.

Throughout her teens, she was relentlessly bullied at school because of her excessive body hair, which grew on her face, chest and arms. She contemplated suicide at the age of 16.

Thirteen years later, after being baptised as a Sikh – the religion prohibits the cutting of body hair – she has come to terms with her condition. She now works as a body activist, helping inspire confidence in others.

In these days of emoji roses, pre-teen sexting and kaiju porn, the humble kiss can be forgotten.

But remember the days when you were 13 and just got interested in boys and would snog your ‘forever’ love for hours on the back of the bus?

When any kind of kiss was serious stuff and a snog was the equivalent to full sex? (Any kind of further fumbling meant you were REALLY grown up.)

Well maybe your younger self was right to get so excited about kissing.

Here’s 12 reasons kissing is better than sex.

Who understands women better than men on the internet?

A Reddit user invited men to suggest what ladies need to stop doing and the responses ranged from the misguided right through to the downright misogynist.

As users added to a growing list of mind boggling advice for the females in their lives, we gathered a collection of some that are just crying out for a shaming. Don’t worry, we’ve not named names, so if you are part of this thread, you can breathe a sigh of relief.

It’s not going to be a happy weekend for commuters (Picture: Getty Images/Metro)

We recently wrote a post on the most annoying things people do to ruin our journey to work.

You replied to tell us we’d missed some out.

This is what really winds you up on your daily commute.

1 Earth Mother, middle class idiots with sandal-wearing yuppie husbands.

2 People who barge on to the train with six suitcases before letting others off.

3 Those who spend 20 minutes looking for pre-booked seats which they’ll never find because they got on at the wrong carriage.

4 Parents who won’t tell off their precious brat for screaming.

5 People eating hot, smelly food. *gag*

6 Talking hands free, anywhere, but especially directly across from me on the quiet carriage where I… Read the full story

You wake up and the first thing you do is grab your iPhone. You switch off your laptop last thing at night, turn off the lights, and then read Twitter on the phone in the dark. You regularly phubb your friends.

We’re so obsessed with our gadgets, we’d rather spend time with them than our friends and family.

It’s something that becomes all too horribly apparent when you look at photographer Eric Pickersgill’s eery photo-series: Removed.

Turn off the deep fat fryer – we’ve gone too far.

Because when you’re taking candy floss – a food item that’s already pretty underwhelming in taste, sticky, and annoying to eat – and making it worse, something is going very, very wrong.

The madmen over at Waffles Inc, a waffle-focused restaurant in California, have branched out from brilliant breakfast food to make candy floss out of cheese.

Candy floss. Made of cheese.

There are two types of people in the world. People who think that this is an abomination, and other people, who are wrong.
