1. A Curious Invitation
(Picture: A Curious Invitation)

Yes, there’s still two weeks to go, but if you don’t look sharp all the best events will be gone and you’ll be sat at home bobbing for apples on your tod. May we suggest…

1. A Curious Invitation’s ‘Theatre of Blood’ event is actually only on the 30th October, leaving you wide open on the Saturday to recycle your costume for another event or, you know, sit around watching horror movies in your pants. There are five stages, four immersive realms and over 150 live performers, plus a grisly sketching class, Franken-makeovers and a kooky cabaret show. 30th October, 9pm to 4am @ The Coronet, Elephant & Castle. Tickets £30pp or £150 for five.

Dear Michelle,

You don’t know me, and until yesterday I didn’t know you. And I still don’t. Not really, I just know that yesterday, you were interviewed on Good Morning Britain about your experience with OCD.

I don’t have time to watch TV in the morning, but I saw the interview had received a lot of feedback on Twitter. Intrigued, I clicked onto your link.

As a fellow sufferer of OCD, I clicked in hope that finally someone was speaking out about such a stigmatised and misunderstood illness.

Unfortunately for me, my hopes were quickly drowned by pure disbelief at your comments.

You seem like an educated, thriving women with a lot to offer. And I congratulate you on all of your recent success. But the way you addressed… Read the full story

Mum and I (Picture: Ceren Senkul)

This time two years ago, ironically during Breast Cancer Awareness Month, my mum was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 48.

She had received a letter from the NHS inviting her to go for her very first routine mammogram.

Public Health England is in the process of extending it to begin from age 47, and trials have already begun in certain areas, which is why my mum got hers early.

Nobody wants to go and have their boobs squashed by a big machine so you sort of think ‘do I really need to go to this?’

Thankfully, she did.

Something showed up on her scan, so they invited her back for a biopsy, which confirmed our worst fear. She had cancer.

Courtney Demone is a 24-year-old trans woman from Victoria, British Columbia, who’s just started hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

She’s beginning to grow breasts, and her body is changing in ways she’s ‘only prayed for and dreamed about’.

But a jokey comment by her roommate, who asked her if he had to stop looking at her shirtless ‘since you’re a girl now,’ got her thinking about the cisgender male privileges she’s losing.

Like being able to go out topless or post topless pictures on social media, without feeling uncomfortable.

Which is why, in the coming months, she’s going to be posting topless photos of herself on Facebook, Instagram, and other social media platforms using the… Read the full story

Finally a phone with zero functionality (Picture: NoPhone)

The latest smartphone is here and it literally does nothing.

There’s no billion mega-pixel camera and certainly no highly sensitive touchscreen.

Nope, this is the NoPhone and you can’t even make a call.

Though, in all fairness, it is 100 per cent waterproof.

It’s simply a rectangular piece of plastic, designed to get you looking at the real world again, rather than living through a screen.

The creators explained: ‘The NoPhone ZERO was created to combat the rapid decline of real life social engagement that has stemmed from chronic smart rectangle device use.’

‘Just where do I begin?!’ (Credit: Metro/Getty)

The English language – not romantic or sexy like French or Italian, changing constantly, adopting new words such as ‘twerking’ – is confusing as hell.

It’s so tricky that even Benedict Cumberbatch struggles to say the word penguin.

It’s no wonder we often get words mixed up and use the wrong one sometimes.

But are you the exception? Oxford Dictionaries, the organisation responsible for the Oxford English Dictionary, has a list of commonly misused and confused words.

Can you tell apart your draw from your drawer? Find out by taking the quiz below.

Most vegetarians could live a happy life never having to see a quiche again. (Picture: Youtube)

The biggest misconception about being a vegetarian? That all we eat is sad salads and plates filled with carrots.

It’s not true. There’s LOADS of stuff we eat. Most vegetarians are always stuffing their face with varied deliciousness.

Because there are SO MANY things that we can eat. Hummus, pizza, fancy pasta. All the stuff regular omnivores eat, just without the bacon on top.

So can someone please explain why when we tell people we’re vegetarian, they immediately prepare us one of these 14 things?

Stop the madness. Stop the nut roast.

Because body-shaming has gone too far.

London model Charli Howard has written a powerful open letter to the modeling industry, after she was apparently told she was ‘too big’ to find work. She’s a UK size 6 to 8, BTW.

She wrote on her Facebook: ‘Here’s a big F*** YOU to my (now ex) model agency, for saying that at 5″8 tall and a UK size 6-8 (naturally), I’m “too big” and “out of shape” to work in the fashion industry.

Caution (Picture: tipstimesadmin/Flickr)

When you’re on your period, you have many reoccurring, irrational and sometimes delusional thoughts.

Most people know to just stay clear of you until it, erm, clears up. And if they don’t, and they get caught in the wrath of your hormonal self? Well, that’s their problem. They should’ve known better.

Here’s 39 thoughts every girl has when they’re on their period.

1. I’m hungry.

2. Oh my god I’ve got so fat, how could I let this happen?

It’s really easy to become lost in a negative atmosphere, especially if you’re struggling to find any positives within your reach at the moment.

Sometimes it’s best to pace yourself and allow things to work out on their own. And if they don’t, it’s important to take things one step at a time to get back on track.

Here’s 15 ways to help yourself when you’re feeling down.

1. Focus on the positives.

Look at the good things you’ve done, be it past or present. Look at what you’ve achieved. Look at the people you’ve made happy.

2. Question how you made other people happy in the past.

Remember the person you were when found it easy to make others happy.

3. Compare that person then, to the person now.

You may be wise to the hidden subtext of a Netflix and chill invite. You probably know your Yummys from your Yuccies.

But there’s a new dating type to be aware (and afraid) of. The Cinderfella. It doesn’t mean a dude with a glass slipper fetish.

Coined by blogger Michelle Martin at the Huffington Post, the Cinderfella is a man who’s desperate for emotional and physical intimacy, at rapid speed.

They just want to be swept off their feet and overcome with romance and drama.

As Michelle puts it: ‘Cinderfellas want passion! They want fireworks! They want to feel alive! They want to be rescued from their loneliness wastelands!

As always, progress is slow in the fashion world.

This year’s Spring/Summer catwalks were filled, yet again, with almost all white models.

Sure, small improvements were made by fashion houses after the Diversity Coalition, spearheaded by Naomi Campbell, spoke out about the lack of racial diversity on the catwalks in 2013.

And big name models, like Jourdan Dunn, speaking out against racism in the industry has helped to put a spotlight on the issue.

George Lawlor, a Warwick University student and a senior reporter at the Tab, posted an article about an invitation he was sent to some ‘consent lessons’ about sexual behaviour.

In the article, titled ‘Why I don’t need consent lessons’, George said: ‘I feel as if I’m taking the “wrong” side here, but someone has to say it – I don’t have to be taught to not be a rapist. That much comes naturally to me, as I am sure it does to the overwhelming majority of people you and I know.

‘Brand me a bigot, a misogynist, a rape apologist, I don’t care. I stand by that.’

He claimed that he was completely against the lessons and felt they were a waste of time.… Read the full story
