Someone’s given ‘Hotline Bling’ a feminist Drakeover

drake dancing hotline bling

Drake’s ‘Hotline Bling’ is brilliant, sure. And his dance moves are even better.

But you know what has some room for improvement? Drake’s feminist message.

Because lyrics getting pissy with your ex for ‘wearing less and going out more’ are fine (we all get a bit bitter post-breakup), but they could be LOADS more feminist-y.

So thank Yeezy for Javetta Laster, a total genius who decided to rewrite the lyrics to ‘Hotline Bling’ using a fancy ‘say what you REALLY mean, Drake’ translator.

Here’s how the more accurate, insecure about his ex’s success, version of ‘Hotline Bling’ begins:

‘Ever since I left the city, you’ve established an identity of your own while I went out and did things to advance my life. Everybody recognizes you are your own person with your own life goals and I’m no longer a part of what makes you special.

A woman who filmed herself whispering at the camera has become a YouTube phenomenon – because her videos give people ‘head tingles’.

Kimberley Tregidgo, 24, from Devon, is a so-called ASMR YouTuber who reads bedtime stories and does makeup tutorials while whispering, which gives quite a lot of people ‘braingasms’ (not sexual).

What is ASMR?

‘Autonomous sensory meridian response, or ASMR, is the pseudo-scientific name of a phenomenon that, according to thousands of… Read the full story

18th century fashion in the modern world by Thibault Carron Credit: Thibault Carron Source Link: www.thibaultcarron.com Source Link 02: https://www.facebook.com/ThibaultCarron
Super casual. (Picture: Thibault Carron)

Why did we ever stop wearing massive flouncy skirts and powdered wigs?

Oh. Right. Because they’re massively impractical and uncomfortable, and a bit too fancy for popping to Tesco.

But one guy isn’t giving up on the 18th century dream. Petticoats are TOTALLY making a comeback.

In his ‘If Fashion Was…’ series, photographer Thibault Carron imagines a modern world where some people still go for Marie Antoinette style.

It’s great, purely because it’s always fun to see things that were once the height of fashion removed from their context. One day, boyfriend jeans will look this strange.

Asparagus gin is probably the most middle class liquor of all time

A match made in foodie heaven.

If you’re in to your gins you’ve probably tried your fair share of flavoured ones. Typical flavour combos include the likes of elderflower, raspberry or rhubarb and ginger, but Portobello Road Gin have decided to try something a little different.

In fact, to be fair, it’s more than a little different, as the London-based distillery have created an asparagus gin.

Yep, it’s the middle class dream.

Portobello Road Gin’s director Paul Lane handpicked 2,000 British asparagus spears in June this year. The spears were then distilled with a selection of botanicals to create this rather unusual tipple.

We know everyone’s talking about Back to the Future and people are getting all excited about time travel, but just a reminder guys, it’s still 2015.

Which someone seems to have forgotten, because they just advertised a role for ‘a good looking girl’ at an estate agents in Cardiff.

Serious, we’re not in the 1950s any more folks.

Modelling Network have since deleted their Tweet and Facebook post, but not before a load of people called it out for being sexist.

People are shocked that someone thought this was okay in this day and age

revlon video asks couples to talk about love and self confidence
Wow, I’m so single. (Picture: Youtube/Revlon)

The woman behind that viral ‘First Kiss’ video is back.

But this time, she’s skipping the awkward makeout seshes to team up with Revlon, to bring love and self-confidence to the people.

In Revlon’s new ad, couples were invited to chat about their relationship, love, and their insecurities.

The women shared the stuff about themselves they weren’t comfortable with, including not having a ‘big personality’ and feeling like they’re 5lbs overweight.

Their significant others disagreed with all their self-doubting nonsense, telling the world that they’re brilliant and gorgeous, obvs.

Love is tough enough without catfishes (Source: Getty Images Credit: METRO/mylo)

The internet gives us so much right, but also so much wrong and heartbreak.

Web anonymity has given a rise to creeps, trolls and also catfishes – people who prey on the romantically lonely and hopeful by pretending to be someone they’re not.

Whether they do it for money, for fun or because they’re scared of being themselves, MTV has a whole U.S. TV show dedicated to them all. And yes, it’s coming over to the UK.

So if you’re using the web to find love and you don’t have Catfish hosts Nev and Max to help you investigate matches, how can you protect yourself?

‘We have got to talk about all those kids in those Goosebumps books.’

Brenna Twohy’s poem Anxiety: A Ghost Story starts so amusingly, and so lightly.

It talks about all the ridiculous things that happen in those teenage fiction novels.

But then she turns the story, performed at August’s National Poetry Slam, on its head and talks about the horror story of having anxiety.

‘When I tell you about the ghosts that live inside my body,’ she says.

Potty training is a happy event. Saying goodbye to nappies and flushing poos away rather than wiping and bagging them is a massive milestone.

Yet, the reality of potty training can be at best messy and at worst downright traumatic.

But too often as polite Brits we don’t feel comfortable talking about it.

But let’s change that. I asked my friends who have been there for their stories of potty training their children and they didn’t disappoint.

You can never have too many pants

‘Day one of potty training. I had ten pairs of pants. By 3pm we were on the bus to Mothercare, buggy lined with a towel to soak up any accidents, to buy more.’

They’ll sit on the potty for ages,… Read the full story

We tried salt in our coffee because apparently that’s a thing

Salt in coffee may sound like utter madness, but apparently it’s a thing now.

Seriously, it’s not just an unfortunate morning accident that happens when your eyes are too blurry to work out what’s salt and what’s sugar.

People are deliberately putting it into their coffee instead of sugar in an attempt to counteract bitterness.

A study in Nature showed that sodium ions suppress bitterness and enhance flavour.

And you just so happen to get sodium ions floating around when you add salt to an aqueous solution, like coffee.

The future is here (Picture: Nike)

It’s confirmed. Next spring, you could get your hands on a pair of Nike Mags, the self-lacing trainers worn by Marty when he travelled Back To The Future.

Yes those power-lacing trainers are now real.

The news we’d all eagerly awaited on Back To The Future Day was confirmed in a series of tweets from Michael J. Fox himself.

First, he shared a letter from the shoe’s designer Tinker Hatfield. It began: ‘Hey Michael, almost thirty years ago, we embarked on a journey to create a glimpse ‘into the future’. Although the project started as science fiction, we’re now proud to turn that fiction into fact.’

Shiseido’s latest ad shows the power of makeup with brilliant twist

We’ll admit when we first started watching this new ad from Japanese beauty brand Shiseido, we did wonder where it was going.

Called simply ‘High School Girl?’, the video shows a group of bored Japanese school girls in class and is accompanied by a baby-sounding voice singing what sounds a little like a nursery rhyme.

Which is, yeah, a bit weird.

Was this suddenly going to turn into Britney’s Hit Me Baby or some sort of Japanese version of The Virgin Suicides.

Neither, it turns out.

Women should be doing pull-ups for many reasons, but mainly, just because.

Seeing a guy do a pull-up (or chin-up), sometimes with one arm, is not a surprising sight in the gym.

Why should guys have all the fun? Or strength.

Last week the team at SIX3NINE personal trainers gave the run down on why and how women should be doing full push-ups.

Now they’re back with the run down on everything to do with the so-called ‘strict pull up’ (meaning on-point with no shakiness or swinging).

‘As with the push-up, this exercise is beautifully simple yet is not mastered and used to its full potential in many training programmes,’ says James Summersby, trainer at SIX3NINE.

Old-Man-2

Last week, a 95-year-old man named Bill called BBC Radio Solent because he felt ‘so alone’. His call resonated with listeners so much, the show decided to invite him in.

Bill, who’s from Southampton and listens to Radio Solent every day, called into Alex Dyke’s mid-morning show on finding love later in life.

He married his wife Sheila on June 2 last year at the age of 95.

They had been friends for 30 years and, after Sheila’s husband died, Bill took over the roll of her carer. They eventually decided to marry. But, shortly after, Sheila had a fall. She was taken into hospital and then moved into a nursing home, where she now lives. She has dementia and colitis.

Although he visits Sheila every day, when asked if he felt lonely by Alex, Bill responded ‘I feel so alone’.

His story touched the presenter that he invited Bill in to have coffee on… Read the full story

Periods: half the population has them, but shhh. We’re not allowed to acknowledge their existence.

A selection of adverts from Thinx – a brand that makes period-proof underwear – might be banned from appearing on the New York subway, and we don’t really understand why.

The people behind Thinx proposed a new series of adverts for the New York public transit system, showing images of a peeled grapefruit, an egg, and some models, with the text: ‘underwear for women with periods.’

But Outfront Media, who are in charge of a portion of the adverts shown through the Metropolitan Transit Authority, have reportedly denied Thinx’s pitch for two reasons.

We had to censor the picture in order to post it on Facebook (Picture: Blunt Moms/Facebook)

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, so it is more than a little ironic that Facebook doesn’t want you to see a photo of a mammogram.

Yesterday, I was blocked from accessing Facebook, along with the other admins of website BLUNTmoms.com, because our photo of a breast in a mammogram machine was reported as offensive nudity.

Due to the couple of centimetres of nipple shown in the side-angle shot, Facebook agreed that the photo violated its community standards. Our team was left with the option of removing the photo or unpublishing the page if we wanted to have our accounts reinstated.

Facebook community guidelines state that it ‘[allows] photos of women… Read the full story

You know what’s romantic? Giant dinosaurs and sharknados (that’s a tornado of sharks, if you’re not familiar with the cinematic genius of Sharknado and Sharknado 2).

Which is why this wedding photoshoot makes total sense. Nothing says love like dressing up in your fanciest clothes to run away from impending doom.

Stephanie Ringuet and Drew Silver from Boondall, Australia, decided to honour the brilliance of the Sharknado franchise by theming their engagement photoshoot around shark tornados. And Godzilla, obvs.
