the one thing I didn't think I'd get beauty vlogger haul video shows importance of getting checked for breast cancer
Powerful stuff. (Picture: Youtube/A Plus)

We all imagine that breast cancer is a huge scary thing that happens to other people.

But not to us. We’ll all be fine.

This video from A Plus wants to remind young women that yes, actually, breast cancer can happen to them.

It’s a classic beauty and fashion haul video, with a vlogger listing off all the things she’s got. Coffee! New shoes! A top in white AND blue!

But there’s one thing she never thought she’d get.

It’s a shocking reminder that thousands of women are diagnosed with breast cancer each year. We’re… Read the full story

You’re a fully grown adult. You love your partner. The next logical step is to move in together.

But that’s not as easy as it sounds – and we’re not talking about coordinating annual leave and hiring a moving van.

Below we list 15 things you should know before you unpack those boxes and move in with your partner.

1. They’re not your housemate

Forget about living in a shared house. From eating together to sharing tidying duties: discuss your concerns, air your grievances, and enjoy your cohabitation.

2. Your weekly shop won’t cost half as much

If you stop buying food on a daily basis and cut out the bad eating habits of single life, your weekly shop for two will drastically decrease… Read the full story

Be wary of falling in love with a bearded man.

If he’s hiding away half his face, there’s a good chance he’s also hiding an affair.

In fact, men with facial hair are 27 per cent more likely to cheat on their partner than a clean shaven chap, according to new research commissioned by social video network Eva.

It doesn’t stop there, the ruffians are more likely to fight and steal too.

But it’s the ones with goatees that you really have to watch out for.

Soon, our pet dogs will live FOREVER/a bit longer than normal. (Picture: Fran Veale)

When we get a pet, we have to accept that along with all the cute stuff, we’ll eventually have to cope with the very traumatic experience of its death.

The average healthy dog only lives to about 13 years, meaning outliving our pets is just a sad reality we have to deal with.

But there’s a new drug scientists are hoping will help to fight back against the way of the world. Or at least delay the horror a bit.

Rapamycin is a drug that’s successfully been proved to extend the life of lab mice by 9 to 14 percent, working whether it was given to the mice during… Read the full story

When I was a new mum I read a lot of baby sleep advice.

My baby didn’t sleep so I didn’t sleep, and my life was suddenly utter, exhausting, messy chaos.

Babies wake up during the night. I knew this going in. I was fully aware that becoming a mother would mean having to deal with a fair amount of tiredness.

But what I did not anticipate was the kind of relentless, tortuous exhaustion that can destroy your confidence and eat away at your very soul.

My baby laughed in the face of sleep and spat in the eye of our ‘consistent bed time routine.’ On a good night she woke up every few hours, on a bad night every 30 minutes and on a really… Read the full story

Insomnia is the worst isn’t it?

All your efforts of going to sleep – eye mask, ear plugs, lavender pillow spray, Rescue Remedy – are going to waste. You’re almost angry about the fact you’ve been tossing and turning for hours. And you know you’re going to be shattered at work the next day.

But when sleeplessness sets firmly in, perhaps we should embrace it fully and embark on the profound analysis of brewing issues our brain is so set on exploring right at this most inconvenient time.

We can choose to view it as our body’s way of allowing us complete peace and freedom from the world for several precious hours before dawn, in one of the most… Read the full story

Cannot. Wait. (Picture: Instagram/ Lilikoi & Rella)

Halloween is always on the 31st of October, but in 2015 the spookiest day of the year falls on Saturday.

Which is excellent, because celebrating on the weekend means we have a whole day to dress up, eat sweets and scare ourselves silly.

The news of an entire uninterrupted day of Halloween holiday fun is proving almost too much for some pets to handle.

They’ve been preparing for this all year and have already got their costumes on because they literally cannot wait any longer.

And we’re okay with that, because neither can we.

You spend summer honing your bikini body only to let yourself go come winter. But that can be a mistake.

From slacking organs to loss of muscle mass and even weaker bones, quitting the gym can have a whole bunch of downsides.

So we enlisted sports scientist Ross Edgley, a former GB water polo player and swimmer, who now works with Protein Works, to help you with some damage control.

He has put together the definitive guide to what happens when you stop working out, as well as research-backed tips and tricks to ensure your body is not plagued by any of the physical adaptations associated with inactivity.

A town in Ontario has come together to do something truly magical.

Evan Wellwood is seven years old and battling brain cancer. The inoperable tumour he’s had for the last five years has grown, and doctors now say he might not make it to Christmas.

His mum, Shelly Wellwood, wanted to organise an early celebration in their home to make sure Evan had one last Christmas.

But when she told her family about her plans, they had an idea for something much bigger.

Depressing news for anyone who’s strongly opposed to gendered packaging: people think food in sexist packaging actually tastes better.

Agh. Damn our stupid subconsciously swayed human brains.

A study published in Social Psychology found that people tend to find food tastier if it’s in sexist packaging. Researchers asked participants – 58 men and 82 women – to taste-test a blueberry muffin at the local fair.

When the participants ate the muffin labelled as a ‘Mega Muffin’, covered in more ‘masculine’ packaging with images of men playing football, both men and women rated the muffin tastier than when it was wrapped in ‘feminine’ packaging, with a woman ballet dancer on the… Read the full story

makeup all

We’ve had the 100 years of beauty time-lapse but this makeup artist has just gone one step further.

Lisa Eldridge is showing us a snapshot of the entire evolution in makeup history, starting right back with the Ancient Egyptians.

This is what happened when I wore pearls on my face for a day

Things have come along since then, with makeup no longer the reserve of the rich elite.

Plus there’s the added bonus that foundation no longer corrodes our skin.

Seriously, 16th century Venetians were big fans of Venetian Ceruse, which just happened to be made with toxic lead.

In the wise words of Beyonce: ‘Pretty hurts.’

The Ancient Egyptians really kicked started the whole makeup thing and weren’t afraid to experiment.

Last year, model Robyn Lawley found herself at the centre of a furious debate about abortion, women’s rights, and women’s bodies. All in one website’s notorious commment section.

Robyn had frankly discussed her pregnancy with cosmopolitan.com, in an interview which managed to get twisted by other publications into a major headline: ‘Robyn Lawley considers abortion to avoid stretch marks.’

Which wasn’t great, really, because that isn’t exactly what Robyn said. Plus, when the headlines started popping up, she was seven months pregnant.

‘It hurt so bad,’ says Robyn. ‘The comments that ensued were derogatory to say the least.

Sumo wrestlers show they’re not just athletes in the ring

Three sumo wrestlers running without their clothes might seem like a strange set up,  but sometimes we have dreams that just don’t make sense to other people.

You might be an accomplished scientist, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have dreams of being a famous rock star too.

In a break from a heavy training schedule, these guys just wanted to swap the ring for a race track.

Sure they might not be the most graceful athletes around and maybe they’ve not quite got the 100m sprint down.

We don’t think it is even 100m… but it is pretty competitive.

And you know what, none of that matters, these sumo wrestlers are stronger, fitter… and arguably faster than we… Read the full story

Tom Ford, creator of excellent fashion-y clothes and makeup, is releasing a special lipstick that embodies the true soul of Drake. It’ll be named after Drake himself, and is a rich shimmering burgundy colour.

Apparently there is a connection between the colour and Drake, and it’s not just what Tom Ford thinks Drake would wear. A representative told The Cut: ‘Drake did write a song called Tuscan Leather so there is a connection.’

Finally, someone has found a way to make dressing up as a Disney princess sufficiently scary to be Halloween-appropriate.

Makeup artist Shonagh Scott has killed off all our favourite Disney princesses, in the name of creating a slightly disturbing series of makeup looks

‘Happily Never After’ shows Ariel, Belle, and more as we’ve never seen them before (nope, not as hipsters or hot dogs. Those have already been done). This time they’ve been brutally murdered, and have come back to a life of zombie-ing around and singing to animals.

Here’s Ariel, who had her voice box ripped out by Ursula. Pleasant.
