pumpkin exploding gif

Halloween: a time for excessive amounts of sugar, dressing up as sexy un-sexy things, and telling yourself that sure, you’re totally capable of carving a pumpkin.

I mean, how hard could it be? You’re an adult, almost. You’ve drawn things before.

It’s totally doable. Nothing will go wrong.

EXCEPT IT WILL. Do not try to get all fancy with your pumpkin. You will fail. Draw on a design, stick to a basic scary face, or get your mum to do it for you.

Let these pumpkin fails serve as your warning: disaster is inevitable.

Are you a classic Times New Roman or a completely insane Wingdings? (Picture: METRO)

We’re weirdly obsessed with fonts, aren’t we?

There are hundreds of font options on Word, and yet most of us keep going back to the same ones while being irrationally judgmental about others (*cough* Comic Sans).

If we’re such loyalists with our typefaces, then what does our favourite font say about us? And what font fits your personality best?

Avocados. The world is obsessed. They’ve infiltrated everything: breakfasts, smoothies, the very fabric of society.

We cannot escape. They lurk everywhere.

But despite their slimy, mushy consistency and sub-par taste, everyone around me can’t get enough.

I’ve been shunned by my colleagues and friends for failing to join the avocado hype. I’ve gone hungry avoiding their overwhelming presence.

And I’ve had enough. Avocados are ruining my life, and they need to GTFO.

(Or, as Jess Cartner Morley more elegantly put it, ‘the avocado is overcado.’ Although I’m strongly against it being a thing to begin with.)

Avocados are creating a divide in our society. Us against them. Avocado haters and people who are wrong.

Presenting the latest trend in temporary body art: white henna style tattoos.

Intricately designed for a delicate look, the finished effect is a bit like lace applied to the skin.

The trend started in the Middle East, with brides opting for white henna instead of traditional brown, so the design shows up more prominently on darker skin tones.

Beauty addicts around the world have picked up on the prettiness, and companies are now offering self-applied temporary tatts in swirling designs filled with mandalas and flowers.

Smoking is a life choice that some of us make – approximately 22 per cent of adult men and 17 per cent of adult women in fact.

But according to YouGov it can be a personality type amongst young millennials, in that there are several characteristics that they have in common. Particularly comparatively to non-smokers.

In a survey of 13,000 adults – 3,000 who smoke and 10,000 who don’t – the pollsters found some key differences in their personalities.

So we’ve put together a quiz of the traits highlighted by YouGov. Are you a typical smoking millennial, or a typical non-smoking millennial? If you’re not a millennial, well…

We can all be heroes – we just need to take a stand (Picture: Youtube/Bullying PSA)

Who has the power to help kids deal with being bullied? All of us.

That’s what this new PSA from UP TV is hoping to prove, showing a bunch of people doing the right thing and taking a stand against a group of bullies.

UP TV set up a scene with two girls bullying a girl sitting next to them, asking her if she has any friends that aren’t imaginary and calling her a ‘freak’ for reading all the time.

They wanted to see if any adults sitting nearby would step in.

And – just to restore our faith in humanity – loads… Read the full story

It’s enough to make you swipe left on love altogether (Picture: Metro)

Tinder – it’s the dating app we all love to hate and yet can’t seem to delete off our phones.

It all starts out promising, doesn’t it?

Once upon a time, you downloaded Tinder and starting getting loads of matches from pretty decent looking people. It was a nice boost to the ego and hey, it was just a bit of harmless fun.

Then the messages start flooding in.

“Wanna f**k?” They all seemed to open with. Well that was forward, you think. But whatever, after all, I heard what’s-her-name-friend-of-a-friend met her now-fiancé off Tinder.

They can’t all be bad, can they?

A lot of attention has been paid to the plight of those suffering from resting bitch face.

But what about those of us struggling day in, day out, with overly expressive face (or OEF, as we like to think of it)?

We’re the ones who have to deal with having no control over our facial reactions. There is nothing we can feel in secret – it’s all over our face.

We constantly look incredibly shocked, or intensely focused, or more confused than any normal person has ever been.

We struggle in silence*

*Because our faces say it all.

3. I’m definitely going to go to bed at the ‘same’ time

You may remember the our story earlier in the year about six-year-old Audrey Nethery, the adorable girl who was raising awareness of her bone marrow disease via her love of Zumba.

Showing us exactly how Zumba should be done, the little dancer can nail moves from the nae nae to the ‘Stanky Legg’. And as the videos of her amazing performances went viral, awareness of her condition grew.

Audrey suffers from Diamond-Blackfan anemia (DBA). It’s a life-threatening condition where the bone marrow is unable to produce enough red blood cells, which are vital for carrying oxygen round the body.

Born with a hole in her heart and a cleft palate, Audrey has already undergone 20 blood transfusions in her life.

But that hasn’t slowed her down… Read the full story

No-one likes that ‘lava in the chest’ sensation that is heartburn or acid reflux – but when it’s occasional, you can kind of just accept that it’s part and parcel of a hangover or the aftermath of a damned good vindaloo.

But when you are one of the unfortunate people who get it on an agonisingly regular basis – often for no real reason – then it starts to really affect your life.

That gut wrenching feeling when you start to feel the heat tickle your chest and throat, the fear around anything remotely spicy and the necessity of always having ice cream in the freezer – here are 9 things that regular… Read the full story

As of today, you can now breakfast at Burberry – in their all day cafe, Thomas’s, to be exact.

And this is no croissant-on-the-go either. The cafe will be serving British classics, including a Full English, bacon baps, Scotch buttermilk pancakes with rhubarb compote, and hot buttered crumpets from the Aga. Sorry, we’ll just wipe that drool off our keyboard.

Plus, of course, there will be smashed avocado on toast. Giving the fashion people what they want.

On Friday, a local news reporter from Jacksonville Florida, shared a picture of a dog lying in the road on Twitter.

Reporter Russell Colburn explained that the dog, called Paco, had been lying there, alone, for some time.

It later transpired that, at around 6.15am that morning, the dog’s owner Karen Black, 42, had been killed in a hit-and-run while they were out for a walk.

Paco had been lying near to where she was killed, waiting for her to come back, for several hours after her body was removed.

The people of Plymouth might love Christmas, but they don’t love Christmas ads in October.

Because, seriously, can we at least get Halloween over with first?

After billboards were put up by the tourist board around the city centre, advertising a ‘truly magical Christmas’ and announcing that ‘the fun begins 12 November,’ less-than-festive residents took matters into their own hands.

Last week, at least two of the posters were put under wraps. Literally.

People have been sharing images of the billboards covered in festive wrapping, with homemade signs reading ‘#2Early4Christmas’, on Twitter.

Like 1 in 100 people, I have been diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Contrary to what some believe, I don’t run around wielding an axe and I’m not dangerous (expect perhaps to myself when unwell).

There are many myths and fears about schizophrenia, and quite a few things that only someone with this illness can ever truly ‘get’.

Here are a few.

1. Hallucinations or hearing voices

Sometimes the ground feels soft beneath my feet or it feels like my knife and fork are soft too.

These are called tactile hallucinations.

Other people hear voices, or see things that aren’t there.

2. Sleep obsessions

I learnt in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) that sleep deprivation can cause psychosis and mean we see, hear or feel things that aren’t there.
