This dating app uses professional matchmakers to help you find true love

Ever thought your love life needed professional help?

We may have found the dating app for you.

Once uses trained matchmakers to pair up singles looking for love.

As the name implies, though, you only get one match per day.

Jean Meyer, who founded the free dating app for iOS and Android, says it puts more emphasis on quality over quantity.

He said: ‘People are fed up with having to just sit and swipe through hundreds of people in the hope that they might find one person who they like and then start a conversation with.

With Once, we’re taking that responsibility on ourselves, and are handpicking great people for London’s time-starved daters.’

Dates are matched up by interests, looks and personal preferences, which sounds a bit scary as it takes the decision out of your Tinder-worn hands.

However, it’s still up to you whether you ‘like’ the match and get messaging.

Only time will tell if it’s full… Read the full story

Unless you’ve been living in a cave the past two days, it’s pretty likely you’ve heard about Essena O’Neill, the former Instagram model who has decided to quit social media (or at least, in her original identity).

She posted a video online (which has since been deleted) after having captioned a variety of her Instagram photos, revealing the truths behind her online presence.

Although Essena had some good points – predominantly about how there can be dark sides to social media – I believe social media is what you make it.

And personally, I feel we have a lot to be grateful for in regards to social media.

Here’s 17 reasons why.

1. It helps us to communicate with distant friends and family

Social networking sites such as Facebook, Instagram and Twitter have allowed us to stay in contact with friends and family who we are unable to see in person,… Read the full story

Bonfire night 2015: XX things that happen every November 5 Liberty Antonia Sadler
(Illustration: Liberty Antonia Sadler for Metro.co.uk)

‘Remember, remember the fifth of November, gunpowder, treason and plot.

‘I see no reason why gunpower treason should ever be forgot’.

Let’s face it, we Brits are a funny old lot, not least when it comes to national celebrations.

Who else would commemorate a botched 17th century terrorist attack with one of the most fun days of the year?

And since its strange beginning, fireworks night has only got stranger.

Here’s 21 things things that happen every bonfire night.

1. You see fireworks… on every day that week except bonfire night.

2. Despite seeing said fireworks you’ll forget all about the big day until 7pm on November 5, when you’ll start madly Googling ‘best… Read the full story

McDonald’s has just launched three new ‘thicker’ gourmet burgers in the UK and they’re Michelin-chef approved.

Fancy.

The Signature Collection features three burgers, The Classic, The BBQ and The Spicy, and they’ll only be made to order.

Because customers ‘wanted thicker beef patties, high quality ingredients and freshly prepared,’ according to McDonald’s UK food development director Duncan Cruttenden.

It’s thought the new gourmet burgers, which were apparently signed off by Michelin chefs, have been introduced to take on the likes of Byron, Gourmet Burger Kitchen and Shake Shack.

They were launched this week across 28 restaurants, mainly in London and the south of England. There are plans to roll out the burgers in 400 restaurants across the UK next summer.

13 things you know if you’re scared of Bonfire Night
Nope, not fun at all. (Picture: Giphy)

Bonfire Night is an evening where people throw explosives around and build massive flaming pyres on the village green, then keep people safe from these fire risks by constructing a useless barrier out of rope. It is utter madness.

Here are the things that you have to suffer through on November 5 if you’re basically terrified of everything Bonfire Night has to offer.

Why do so many people keep using sparklers without wearing gloves?!

Didn’t they watch the fireworks safety adverts? You’re supposed to wear gloves!

But not those woolly gloves

They look HORRIBLY flammable. Unless you’ve got leather gloves it’s probably better to go gloveless with the sparklers, right? Or is any glove… Read the full story

Dating after coming out of a long-term relationship can be daunting.

Here are 10 things you should know to make it more fun and fulfilling.

1. Dating isn’t like the films

You’ll be setting yourself up for disappointment if you think that sparks and chemistry should be firing in all different directions from date one. And just because there aren’t ‘fireworks’, that doesn’t mean that you should write that person off. Realistically, chemistry takes time to build.

2. Make sure you’re taking the time to find ‘you’ again

If you’ve been in a long-term relationship, you might have lost sight of your own hobbies, passions and interests. All of these things make you you in all your unique and interesting glory.

Don’t leave your Facebook unattended (Picture: Aziz Huseyin/Facebook)

This is why you should never leave your Facebook page open when your mates are around.

Londoner Aziz Huseyin was inundated with messages of congratulations from family and friends after pranksters accessed his page and posted news of his engagement to the world.

On Monday, the 26-year-old was happily making himself a cup of tea at work when colleagues started congratulating him on his surprise news.

Then, he began to get loads of WhatsApps, Facebook messages and emails. It all became clear when he checked his Facebook status.

Someone had shared pictures of his very romantic proposal (‘Marry Me’ spelt out in candles, nice touch) with the caption: ‘GOODMORNING! She said YES!!! 01/11/2015.’

Recipes perfect for fireworks night (Picture: Metro)

Bonfire night is the perfect time to huddle up with friends and family to tuck into warming grub after hours watching fireworks in the cold.

Ideally, we’d all be eating jacket potatoes straight from the bonfire, but a lot of us don’t have a garden, let alone the means (read: motivation) to create an actual bonfire.

Never fear, we’ve tried and tested easy, but indulgent, recipes to get you into the spirit of things.

Best of all, they can all be made in a mug and popped in the microwave, giving you plenty of time to remember, remember the fifth of November.
