As new BBC wildlife series shows, life is about the hunt or being hunted.

In that split second when you come to face to face with an animal, the key is to know where you lie in the food chain.

While most of us have the common sense to see that a tiger or crocodile might not make the ideal house pet, we might not recognise danger when it’s masked by furry paws and large pleading eyes.

Heard of femvertising?

It’s the advertising trend you’ve probably noticed popping up more and more frequently over the last few years: all about empowering women through ‘real bodies’, reaction videos, and social experiments.

Sometimes, femvertising is brilliant, and powerful, and send genuinely great messages about being a woman in the modern world.

Femvertising works on our emotions, making us weep when they show women ‘realising how other people see them’ or ‘seeing their own beauty’, or feel powerful when we see women running, kicking, and smiling.

Mums are basically like Superman, but with more superpowers.

Sometimes we even take mums for granted. But for many of us she is the best role model that you will ever have.

Not only has she raised you, but she’s also been your personal coach during every stage of your life journey, looked after you when you had the chicken pox, and she always fights your corner.

With her confidence, style and sass there is plenty that you can learn from her.

1. Sassy

Your friends might think that your mum is the sweetest and most kindest person that they ever have ever met. But in reality, you know that this couldn’t be further from the truth.

what is happening cropped

Being an adult is tough. Really tough.

And for some reason, all the schooling, university, and chats with our parents failed to mention a few pretty major parts of what life entails post-21.

No one prepared us, and we don’t feel ready. We don’t know how to adult. Help us, please.

1. Taxes

Seriously, did anyone’s school even MENTION the concept of taxes? Did anyone show you how to do them if you’re a freelancer?

Someone was supposed to teach us about tax codes and random forms, we’re sure of it. But they didn’t, and now we’re stuck desperately going through endless click circles on the GOV UK website.

2. Money management in general, really

If you were lucky, your parents imparted some financial wisdom upon you before you headed off into the big bad world.

But for the rest of us, our education consisted of one measly PSHE lesson on creating a pretend budget based on… Read the full story

Lauren Reynolds and Tristin Wood planned to get married on October 11, 2014. But they never did, as Tristin was killed in a car accident only a month before the wedding.

To honour his memory and mark the big day that never was, in March Lauren decided to do a photoshoot, wearing what would have been her wedding dress.

Photographer Stephanie Jarstad captured the emotional photos, photographing Lauren with a framed picture of Tristin and natural symbols of new life.

this cat is really into hotline bling

No, we’re not tired of Drake’s Hotline Bling yet. And we probably never will be, as long as there are disco dancing Drake websites, feminist Drakeovers, and even Drake Christmas jumpers in the world.

But this reimagined version of Hotline Bling might just be our favourite. Partly because it has left us a little confused and bewildered. We have so many questions.

Who is this man? Who is this cat? How do we become this man and his cat?

Is this cat actually a very realistic puppet? Or is it actually possible to achieve such levels of chill, in feline form?

One good deed today.

Crack + Cider is a shop with a difference. If you go into the sleek pop-up in Hackney, East London, you won’t actually be able to leave with anything for yourself or even someone you know.

Instead you will have bought something for a stranger. A stranger who is homeless.

You see Crack + Cider (more on that controversial name later) is the world’s first shop for the homeless, where people are able to buy items such as winter coats, hats, gloves and socks, to help keep a homeless person warm this Christmas.

The shop is the brainchild of 26-year-old advertising exec Scarlett Montanaro and 24-year-old strategist Charlotte Cramer.

Talking to Metro.co.uk about how the idea for the shop –… Read the full story

Americans: these beautiful things are sausage rolls. (Picture: Rex)

Stop the press: Americans have just discovered sausage rolls, and they’ve gone into a meltdown of confusion, intrigue, and hunger.

It all started when the New York Times tweeted a recipe for sausage rolls, which they described as ‘like pigs in a blanket, but so much better’. Accurate.

The article was a bit off-base, suggesting that sausage rolls are a Christmas treat (wrong, they’re for every damn day of the year), and offering a very fancy take on a mini sausage roll, complete with spices.

But anyway. We’re not here to bash what the New York Times believes to be… Read the full story

What great times we live in.

Yes, we’ve woken to the news that someone has immortalised little Prince George in cake form. At last!

The life size cake is the work of 29-year-old cake whisperer baker Lara Mason, and won her the top prize of best overall cake at the Cake International show at the NEC in Birmingham.

The cake, which is just under 3ft tall, took Lara 30 hours to create.

And while the cake is clearly very impressive and accomplished, we can’t help feeling it’s also… well… slightly terrifying.

It’s a controversy that has plagued humanity for centuries. Almost.

Is a hot dog – a frankfurter sitting snugly within two halves of a bun – technically a sandwich?

Let’s discuss. The definition of a sandwich, according to the Oxford English Dictionary is as follows: ‘An item of food consisting of two pieces of bread with a filling between them, eaten as a light meal.’

Which TBH, sounds like a hot dog, no?

Firework safety video
Don’t let this be YOU!

For anyone who went to school in the UK in the 70s or 80s these videos will ring bells of total DOOM.

Hands up if you’re pretty wary of fireworks, couldn’t be persuaded to go within 100 meters of a bonfire whilst wearing a shell suit and wouldn’t even consider lighting a sparkler unless you had a bucket of water within spitting distance.

If that’s you, then chances are you went to school in the 70s or 80s and were subjected to the terror of public information films about fireworks.

From their creepy Vincent Price-esque voiceovers to their gruesome plots, it’s hard to believe that these mini hammer horrors were ever allowed to shown to primary school kids.

And little surprise that some… Read the full story

A love of cheese can be a blessing – but for those who can’t have dairy, it’s definitely a curse.

The side effects can be irritating, if not life threatening. Imagine stomach pains, bloating and itching, as well as potential swelling and trouble breathing.

Whether you’re intolerant to lactose, or allergic to it (which are two slightly different things), it’s a struggle trying to lead a non-dairy life.

Here are things we all have in common though:

1) Lactose sneaks into everything

When you’ve just found out you’re lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy, it surprises you just how much you can’t really eat.

Spanish photographer Angela Buron has a weird mind. But it’s brilliant.

She looks at her own body, and sees all the strange things it could be. Like a body made up of two butts. Or a twisty body with the head on backwards.

Her photographs are surreal, and strange, and we love them. Because as bizarre as they are, they somehow perfectly sum up all our emotions, deepest thoughts, and general LIFE.

Goodbye, money. (Picture: Getty/METRO)

Finally, an answer for why we can’t stop overspending: we’re all total idiots.

At least we can take solace in the fact that we’re not alone. And it’s not that we’re actually stupid, just a bit flawed. Because for some reason, most people just casually forget that they’ll need money in the future.

As explained by The Science of Us, all us humans fall victim to something called the optimism bias: the idea that good things are always up ahead.

When Anna Bozman Thompson wed her long-term partner Travis Thompson on 9 October they knew that although their whole family wouldn’t be there in body, they’d certainly all be there in spirit.

That’s because their son Lake finally lost his battle with leukemia six months earlier, just a few weeks shy of his 9th birthday.
