It doesn’t have to be this way

As we all know, Christmas is a time for eating your body weight in pigs and blankets and wearing your Turkey trousers on the sofa while watching Elf for the 56,907th time.

January is the time for panicking and signing your soul away at Virgin Active.

Right?

Well, it doesn’t have to be that way.

In a bold attempt to temper our over-indulgence this festive season, the team at Buddy Loans (what a guarantor loans lender has to do with junk food, we don’t know, but we’ll go with it) has come up with a ‘handy’ infographic that shows how much exercise you… Read the full story

Life is what you make it (Picture: Katie)

Life is too precious to settle.

Two months ago I left my home in London for a new adventure 3,000 miles away. From the outside my life in London was sorted – I had a great flat (just a short tube ride away from my parents and siblings), a successful career in advertising and an active social life. But deep down I knew I wasn’t happy.

Because although my life was ticking all the boxes I was becoming increasingly aware that each day felt just like the last, and the predictability and monotony was becoming suffocating.

Things I used to look forward to and… Read the full story

While all the kids are clamouring over sing-along Elsa dolls and Paw Patrol vans, we’re still firmly of the opinion that Care Bears and Tickle Me Elmo are so much cooler.

Fuelling for nostalgia for the playtime of the 90s is the latest video from Mode, which shows the world’s favourite toys over the last 100 years.

Turns out the last decade has been a strange and wonderful time, filled with toys of all types. In simpler times, we were all about dolls and puzzles. Now, kids get excited over robot dogs and hoverboards.

Depression can be overwhelming (Picture: Ted Ed/Helen M. Farrell)

Depression can be tricky to understand, especially if you’ve never experienced it before.

Part of the confusion stems from depression being a very different experience than normal feelings of sadness.

Instead, the symptoms of depression can be debilitating, affecting both thoughts and physical health.

Problem is, symptoms don’t always appear obvious to the outside world and the person suffering can feel so guilty and worthless that they can’t get help for themselves.

In fact, the National Institute of Mental Health reckons it takes over 10 years for most people with mental illnesses to get medical help.

Recently I have been spending time at the Westfield shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush, waiting to witness/experience some sexual shenanigans involving pregnant women by the lifts (which will seem an odd thing to say if you didn’t read my recent column).

No luck there – but who cares? A Nespresso shop has opened!

I’m obsessed with the creepy new ads for this coffee delivery system for lazy idiots.

Bumbling, sexually repugnant idiot Jack Black can’t even say the Nespresso tagline correctly and, consequently, is a loser with women. But with help from the sexy, tortoise-mouthed George Clooney, Black drinks from a Lilliputian cup and a… Read the full story

Brussels sprouts – love them or hate them, they’ll be on your table this Christmas.

But it turns out we’ve been cooking them all wrong, which may be why some people aren’t fans.

Morrisons M Kitchen head chef Richard Jones, who has cooked for celebrities including The Rolling Stones and Tina Turner and run five-star London hotel kitchens, has the answer.

Firstly, you should be roasting them, not boiling them to death.

Richard said: ‘It avoids that sulphurous smell from the water and sprouts.

‘And they will caramelise a little bit as they’ve got a natural sweetness.’

One man has ensured he’ll never lose his luggage at the airport again. Let him be your spirit travel guide.

The anonymous traveller was snapped waiting patiently at the airport with his customised luggage, featuring a snap of himself on the front, by his side – ensuring his suitcase never gets picked up by anyone else, or ends up in the lost and found, ever again.

He (predictably) received a ton of praise from the internet after the image was posted on Imgur by user jew3lr0se with the caption: ‘The best way to never lose luggage.’

Worst day ever. (Picture: Metro/Getty)

It can be a bit rubbish having your birthday in the last month of the year.

You have to share your birth month with Baby Gee and everyone’s more excited about their Christmas party than your big day.

So it’s no big shock that the worst day to have your birthday is in December.

And according to a survey of 2,000 people by Interflora, that day is the 16th.

This was the day that people were least likely to receive presents and have friends attend their birthday party.

For 24 hours a day, Students from the University of Illinois are hosting the Dial-a-Carol program.

This is not a hoax.

This idea is nothing new though, and is actually following a tradition that began 55 years ago.

In 1960, the office secretary of Snyder Hall Betty Gordon convinced residents to sing carols for callers during the holidays. It began with the occasional vocals while playing vinyl records for others.

It soon morphed into a non-stop singsong.

There’s no doubt that if you’ve ever had a blocked toilet, you’ve had to resort to a plunger and a pair of rubber gloves.

Well, it turns out, the perfect product has been sitting in your kitchen this entire time. And it’s probably cheaper,  too.
