There could be some slight technical issues trying to recreate positions (Picture: Getty)

I love women’s magazines.

Fashion, beauty, even the food bloggers are in them now because it’s cool to eat again.

But usually you get to a section around the middle where you have to skip ahead around 92 pages.

This is what a lot of us call The Straight Section and it needs to be banned.

Here’s 8 ways women’s magazines assume we’re all straight.

1. Do you know what he’s thinking?

Of course you don’t. Unless you are in fact a mind reader.

In which case you should be writing the column ‘Do you know what everyone is thinking?: Tips on how to be psychic and win at life and everything.’

2. Who we’re fancying this week

Do they really… Read the full story

How is my hair so flat again already? (Picture: harpazo_hope)

If you’re reading this it’s because you read the title and felt like you finally found someone who understands.

Well you no longer have to suffer alone.

Having naturally oily hair sucks, and it’s about time we raised awareness of the cruel suffering that people endure.

Here are 17 things you only know if you have oily hair.

1. ‘Washing your hair every day actually makes it worse’

Anyone that says this deserves a slap.

2. Don’t even think about brushing it

Seriously, it’s asking for trouble. It’s like you’re deliberately sticking it all down onto your head.

3. You genuinely have hair wash days

I can’t wash it today because I’m going to a BBQ and it’s going to smell so I will… Read the full story

I’m busy. Go away! (Picture: Getty)

You run your fingers over the cover and turn to page one. A new book awaits and magic is about to happen…

Here are the many stages of reading a really good book.

You can’t contain your excitement

Because ANYTHING is possible at this point!

You realise you’re hooked

There’s no going back now and you don’t even care.

You stop going out and being sociable

What’s the point? You will never have an adventure as brilliant as what lies within those pages.

You start getting very irritable…

… and cannot stand being interrupted mid-read

Because reading suggests ‘Please, come and talk to me, I’m not busy’ to the untrained eye.

Apparently.

British biscuits of the 90s ranked from worst to best

Chocolate biscuits from the 90's COMP
Loads of biscuits

Before the 90s there was really no such thing as snack time.

A sweet treat was a not-very-nice Nice biscuit or, if it was your birthday, a bourbon.

But our lunchboxes underwent something of a revolution in the 90s – biscuits became brighter, chocolatier, more decadent.

In fact, if you got ANY of these with your sandwiches instead of a packet of Sun-Maid raisens it was party time.

And, although many of them are no longer with us (R.I.P. number 1), we’ll always remember them.

Here’s the definitive list of British biscuits of the 90s ranked from worst to best.

Chances are you’ve heard of Tess Holliday.

In January, the 29-year-old became the first UK size 26 to be signed by a top modelling agency – MiLK Model Management.

She’s giving plus-size women a voice by taking on the industry from the inside. Last month, as she posed in her debut shoot for the modelling agency, she said: ‘I want to challenge society’s perception of “beauty” and what’s acceptable in our industry and the world.’

‘There is no one way to be a woman, or to be beautiful. We all deserve a place,’ she adds.

13 things British Asian girls are sick of hearing

One more marriage question and you’re marrying yourself (Picture: Getty)

You often think that you’re in the movie ‘Groundhog Day’ because you hear the same stuff constantly everywhere you go.

Expectations for you to have a good career, and a plan for marriage are common pressures for most girls, but for British Asian girls multiply that by a million and add in the assumption that you make a mean butter chicken.

1. When are you getting married?

From the age of 16 – 27 you’re asked this on a daily basis. It quietens down after 27 because people have given up hope, and assume that you’ll never find anyone because you’re an OAP now.

2. It’ll be you next!

This happened (Picture: Paul Witterrick/Rex)

Oh, on yer bike.

That would be a fairly understandable reaction to the tall tale of Barry the Bedlington terrier. But, apparently, this dog really can ride a bike.

The three-year-old terrier started off riding skateboards when he was a puppy and has now progressed to a child’s tricycle. No stabilisers.

Owners Wayne Sowerby and partner Kate Hayllar from Cumbria explain: ‘One day we had a skateboard out and he started playing with it. We were just playing and we put him on the skateboard and he loved it, so we started gently pushing him on it and it just went from there.’

Gossiping makes us human and it’s good for us, says Oxford professor

Everyone is guilty of gossiping, and you know what? It’s okay, it’s normal. It’s what separates us from the animals.

As with all things in life, it’s about moderation. Gossiping is perfectly natural, it’s how we network and engage with those around us and as long as we don’t enter into Mean Girls territory – it’s good for us.

Robin Dunbar, professor of evolutionary psychology at Oxford University says, ‘Gossiping is just chatting with people and keeping up to date with the social world in which you live. So gossip is what makes us human.’

‘Your social network has a huge effect on happiness and wellbeing’.

You know that thing when your work confidant fills you in on a sordid office rumour and your… Read the full story

Love a good proposal? This guy went all out to surprise his teacher girlfriend by dropping down on one knee in front of a class full of kids.

Dain Metcalfe, an officer for the Kauai Police Department in Hawaii, pulled off a super cute proposal at an Oregon school where his now fiancee, Auika Muragin, works.

So thought out was this proposal that Metcalfe had students and teaching assistants in on the game to arrange the classroom and pitch up a banner while her back was turned.

It may have been a whirlwind romance (they’d only been dating eight months) but that didn’t stop Dain popping the question.

All the crazy things you do that you’d never tell anyone about you can totally admit to in front of her because she does them too.

Here are 18 things you and your best friend do and say that you don’t tell anyone about.

1. Get your friend to add a guy’s number so you can see if they’ve blocked you

Crazy intricate (Picture: Christian Ramos/Solent News)

Quirky art lover? This is the Mona Lisa as you’ve never seen it before: on a  butterfly.

Mexican artist Cristiam Ramos uses oil paint to decorate the wings of preserved butterflies using a magnifying glass, and he puts in an impressive 56 hours a go to get the intricacy just right.

The butterflies are donated to Ramos from across the world by fans and collectors, each is around 12cm in length and already preserved so that they are ready for painting.

‘Since I was a child I was always struck by the colour of butterflies and their transformation, and as I got older my fascination with them never disappeared’ Ramos says.

‘I am the only artist in the world who has done works… Read the full story

When it comes to getting hitched, most bride and grooms have a budget to work to. But for the mega rich, money is nothing. Nada.

The average wedding in Australia costs around $65,000 (£32,000) which, if you ask us, is a still a total wedge. But according to former wedding planner and editor of Wedded Wonderland, Wendy Daoud El-Khoury, that’s nothing compared to the opulence she’s seen.

We’re talking multiple couture bridal gowns, seven-tiered wedding cake, floor to ceiling… Read the full story

Stunning photographs show what lies beneath

Should that be ‘what lurks beneath’? (Picture: Matty Smith)

Like the proverbial ‘calm’ swan who’s paddling like crazy, this stunning photo-series shows that what you see on the surface isn’t always reflected underneath.

‘For me one of the most wondrous parts of any dive is the moment that the water engulfs my mask as my head slips below the surface,’ explains British-born, and now Aussie-based, photographer Matty Smith.

‘I think it’s the suspense of the unknown of what lies beneath,’ he adds.

Also an experienced diver, he specialises in ‘half over half underwater images’ that marry the wet, unfamiliar world of the Pacific Ocean, with our dry, familiar landscape.

The results offer a tantalising glimpse into a secret underwater world.

What new parents say versus what they really mean

new parents
I really wish I had a nanny (Picture: Getty)

Parenting, like much of life, would not be possible without a liberal dose of half-truths and insincere flattery. Nobody really wants to admit to all and sundry that they’re deranged from sleep deprivation, completely clueless, convinced their baby is the most beautiful creature to ever grace the face of the planet or certain that the snotty kid at soft play is going to end up in prison.

So, we lie. Lie and fib and gloss over the truth. To reassure those who’ve yet to have kids, to stop ourselves getting ostracised from those who have and to validate our own life choices.

‘The birth? It was… OK.’

You know the bit in Return Of The Jedi when the Emperor… Read the full story
