How many times have you chucked away those little silica bags that we find in almost every newly bought item?

How many times have you not actually even realised they were in your new package?

Perhaps they’re still lurking there now as we speak.

You may have thought the bags were useless once the product was out of transit, and the big DO NOT EAT on them might have freaked you out enough to bin them instantly.

But while you must of course never eat the gel, and the bags MUST be kept away from babies and animals (mainly because they are a choking hazard), the contents of the bags are not actually toxic.

The silica gel bags… Read the full story

You know where you are with Christmas (too much food/fights over Monopoly) and you know what happens on New Year (a night that promises so much and delivers so little) but what about the lost days in between?

It’s passing you by too quickly in a haze of Quality Street toffee pennies and turkey curry isn’t it?

These puppies know exactly how you feel.

The struggle to get out of bed before midday is real.

Join the gym. Drink less. Take the stairs. Save money.

There’s nothing like the start of a new year to inspire healthy resolutions.

But of all the New Year’s resolutions to make, here’s why going vegan is the best.

1. You won’t have to squeeze into those too-tight jeans

Sure, there are overweight vegans, just as there are skinny meat-eaters but, on average, vegans are about one-tenth as likely to be obese.

Once you replace high-fat animal-derived foods with healthy fruits, veggies and grains, it becomes a lot harder to pile on the pounds.

Christmas presents may mean more to one person than they do to another.

And in this case, an elderly woman was more than overjoyed with her Baby Annabell Doll.

In the emotional video, a grandmother reacts to the doll she received from her granddaughter as a Christmas gift.

Maxine Daniel, from Durham, posted the video online alongside the caption: ‘My Christmas gift to my lovely Nana Lilly (who sadly has dementia) was a Baby Annabell doll. Her reaction is a joy to see and melts my heart.’

So aside from suddenly developing a fear of flying, the urge to get naked and swing your penis around or going into sudden labour, here are a few more things NOT to do if you want to hold on to those frequent flyer miles.

It’s not everyday a customer actually thanks a store for closing down for a day. Especially not when other stores are competing with one another to get the most people through the door for their Boxing Day sales.

Indeed, many stores decided to open their doors on Boxing Day to begin the January sales as soon as possible as they could after Christmas day.

But John Lewis remained closed, allowing their employees to enjoy one more day of festive freedom.

And one man, Jason Snelling, saw the shop’s closure as a true achievement.

Posting to John Lewis’ Facebook page, John wrote a brilliantly heartfelt message to show his true appreciation for the… Read the full story

When you love someone, you’ll do anything for them. Whether that’s saving them the last piece of pizza because you know food is the way to their heart, or looking after your partner even when they insist that there’s no need – when we are in love, we all do things out of love, no questions asked.

But one young man, Kylle Cota, from Pensacola, Florida, far exceeds the loving gestures of your average teenage boy.

Anyone who has taken a dip in to the dating pool (or sewer) will know it can be traumatic.

No-shows, blanked texts and cat fishes can be enough to send anyone into cardiac arrest.

But we are not alone in our dating disasters.

Our friends from around the globe are knee deep in courting calamities too.

Here’s 10 of the weirdest dating traditions from around the globe.

Sometimes we take for granted the wealth of history the UK has to offer.

Being oblivious to what’s around us can mean missing out on the ruinous and elaborate, yet beautiful castles hidden in plain sight on our doorstep.

Below we look at 16 extraordinary UK castles you need to visit.

Castles in Wales

Love them though we do, throughout history the Welsh have been perceived as troublemakers.

The Romans avoided them totally, the Normans attempted to barricade them in and, until Henry VIII’s reign, the country was considered to be savage.

Because of the constant battles up and down the Welsh border, the country boasts an impressive array of fortified and defensive castles.

Turkey but not as you know it (Picture: Strut & Cluck, Instagram)

We’re still not convinced Christmas wasn’t some elaborate scheme dreamt up by Bernard Matthews to get us all to eat turkey once a year.

But, the people at new London restaurant Strut & Cluck are here to transform the reputation of the frankly dry and uninspiring Christmas bird and prove it’s not just for Christmas.

Yes, London is getting its first turkey-only restaurant. And it will be opening in Shoreditch. Naturally.

After a successful residency at Shoreditch House this year, co-founders Amir and Limor Chen are opening their first permanent base in spring 2016.

When Courtney Bonnet was buying her Pittsburgh home in June this year, she noticed a cupboard under the stairs.

While most of us would think ‘handy extra storage for coats’, Courtney, a librarian and Harry Potter fan, had far bigger plans.

She decided to turn it into a Harry Potter themed snug, in homage to the Boy Who Lived.

i'm masturbating I told you I'd be doing that all day samantha sez and the city

Sweden brought us loads of joy this year when they finally, finally came up with a catchy term for female masturbation: klittra.

The word comes from a combination of clitoris and glitter, which just about sums up the magic of doing some DJ-ing in the basement (our previously preferred term).

And just to make Sweden’s pro-masturbation attitude even better, The Local reports that ‘klittra’ was the most-used new word in Sweden for 2015.

Great news, really, because it indicates that people in Sweden are using the new word to its full use, and proudly discussing the joy of self-pleasure for women.

Klittra even beat out the words ‘Youtuber’ and ‘vejpa’ (to vape).

Alright everyone, get out your planners.

According to hormone expert Alisa Vitti, the best time for a man and woman to have sex is 3pm. Which may require some organisation, given that most of us are at work around that time.

Alisa explained to the Daily Mail that a bit of afternoon delight works best for men and women, as in the afternoon women feel at their most alert and energetic – thanks to increase levels of cortisol – while men reach their peak levels… Read the full story

This video of an NYC firefighter proposing to his teacher girlfriend in front of a class of squealing kids is possibly the most wholesome proposal we’ve ever seen.

And the sweetest.

New York firefighter David Royael from Engine 243 in Brooklyn had volunteered to teach fire safety to his girlfriend Natalie Moy’s kindergarten class in Woodside, Queens, on the last day before the Christmas break.

Natalie has been with David for two years and a teacher for 14 years.

And this is one lesson Natalie – and her class – will never forget.

David’s firefighting colleague Frank Dwyer explained: ‘At the end of the lesson, he asked the kids if they wanted to see their teacher… Read the full story

It’s hard to imagine the pain of losing a child.

But, despite what they are going through, parents Megan Webster and Raymond Reidt, from Michigan, are taking some comfort in the knowledge that their daughter will change someone else’s life.

Four-year-old Vayda Reidt passed away on December 23, after developing flu-like symptoms.

‘She had a light cough and she had appeared to be getting better. I gave her over-the-counter medicine and things like that. I’d taken her to my sister’s house and she laid down on the couch and fallen asleep. And that’s when she stopped breathing,’ mum Megan told Read the full story
