16 of the best 2016 planners for organisation lovers
The New Year is here, and it’s time to get organised.
It’s pretty much the easiest way to feel like a proper grownup: buy a fancy planner, carry it around wherever you go, and whip it out whenever you make an appointment or need to update your to-do list.
So much better than your phone’s calendar, partly because writing stuff down helps you remember it, but mostly due to the prettiness. Because there is nothing quite like opening a brand new diary and writing on the very first page.
Here are a few of our favourite handy planners for 2016, based on organisation potential, price, and looks.

The 14 stages of getting a fringe cut into your hair
Having long, lovely hair is great – but it can get a bit boring sometimes.
Yes, everyone tells you how much it suits you, and perhaps it took you ages to get it like this.
But sometimes you just crave change.
You learned your lesson about dramatic change in 90s when you got that crazy asymmetric bob. But a fringe is much less of a big deal, isn’t it?
You’ve seen people it suits so well and you really think you’ll look just as good as them.
Unfortunately, when it comes to hair, things don’t usually go exactly to plan.
Here are the 14 stages most of us go through when getting a fringe cut.

14 stages of sleeping through your alarm on a weekday
You were tossing and turning for hours the night before.
Whether it was a heavy weekend of late nights and lie-ins or a random bout of insomnia, it was 3am before you got to sleep.
You were sure you set your alarm (maybe you did) but you slept right through it…
Unfortunately for social conventions, sleeping in on a workday is not really okay when you have a job to hold down.
Here are 14 moments we go through every time we oversleep.
1. You wake up feeling so fresh.
You think: ‘Wow I am fresh this morning!’
2. Immediate suspicion.
You think: ‘Hold up, why am I so fresh?’
3. Suddenly realise there’s an unusual amount of light in the room.

An all-women sushi restaurant is taking down sexism, one roll at a time
Ridiculous reasons people believe women can’t make good sushi, as declared by sushi ‘expert’ Kazuyoshi Ono:
1. Our menstrual cycles affects our sense of taste
2. Our higher body temperatures ruin the fresh ingredients
3. Our makeup screws with our sense of smell – essential to making good sushi
4. We might attract bears to the kitchen when we’re on our periods (okay, we made that one up. But it’s just as silly as the others)
Evidence to the contrary: Nadeshiko Sushi, the first sushi restuarant in Japan run entirely by women. Take that, sushi sexists.

Girl asks internet to remove ‘that disabled thing’ from selfie – internet responds brilliantly
When a girl asked the internet to remove ‘that disabled thing’ after she’d taken a selfie in front of the door of a disabled toilet, there was only one way for the internet to react.
And perhaps it’ll teach her a couple of things too. One being that perhaps if you don’t want a disabled toilet sign featured in your photo, don’t pose in front of one.
Secondly, if you’re relying on the help of the internet, be a little more respectful.
The picture, which was captioned: ‘Can someone please photoshop out that disabled thing? thanks!’ has been liked by over 62,000 people after it was posted on the parody Facebook… Read the full story
This one little thing could help you lose weight without even trying
So apparently, there’s something that can actually help us lose weight that doesn’t involve a massive change in eating habits, hours at the gym or fad diets.
Sounds amazing, doesn’t it?
A new study has found that watching yourself eat unhealthy foods in the mirror means you find them less tasty – and you are less motivated to eat them again.
Ata Jamie, professor of consumer behaviour and decision-making at the University of Central Florida, used two groups of undergraduate students for her study, looking at whether eating in front of a mirror affected how each group ate.
Half of the 185 students ate facing a mirror, while the other half were put in… Read the full story

Raccoon steals doughnut and makes a run for it
Move over pizza rat, there’s a new carb-munching fiend in town.
A video of a raccoon busting through a roof and stealing a doughnut from a bakery in Toronto was posted on YouTube earlier this week by a man named Peter Jensen.
First, the raccoon (who Pete has dubbed ‘Sly Cooper’) takes a look at the baked goods on offer.
After a few moments, he makes his selection – Pete says it’s a doughnut but we think it looks more pain au chocolat tbh.
‘He’s doing it. He is doing it. This is incredible,’ says one impressed onlooker.
‘Full commitment, full commitment. Go raccoon go!’ cheers another.
