Um, where do we start? (Picture: Kwik Fit)

If your New Year’s resolution is to shift that spare tyre you popped on over Christmas, then it’s time to get down to your nearest gym, um, garage.

Yes, Kwik Fit are now doing fitness classes. And, no, we have no idea what’s going on either.

The weekly free exercise classes have been devised by personal trainer Mikah Simpson and involve lifting van and car tyres.

The 30-minute session of tyre flips, lifts and throws promises to burn off up to 1,200 calories, and is being trialled at Kwik Fit’s New Kent Road centre every Sunday throughout January.

If they prove successful, the free classes will be rolled out at centres… Read the full story

It’s all too much

The Christmas break was a beautiful time full of food and merriment.

Days were filled with sleep, chocolate before breakfast, turkey sandwiches and feel good movies.

But now those glory days are well and truly over as bosses around the country cruelly demand we return to our desks.

It’s not that work is always rubbish; it’s just that the holidays will always be better.

The only thing getting us through this is the fact that we’re not alone in falling asleep in our chair.

Nope, these 17 tweets prove we’re all in this hellish day together.

Showing off even the most brilliant invention can be hard, especially to a tough crowd. Just look back at the time the inventors of the Trunkee or the TangleTeezer tried to take on Dragon’s Den.

But when you’ve got a not-so-brilliant creation and a very tough crowd, things are very unlikely to go perfectly to plan.

And this demonstration – of cups that according to the designer of them are ‘just like magic’ and ‘don’t move’ when pushed over – beautifully proves that point.

Advertising the un-tippable travel mug on the Today show, this entrepreneurial businessman tells the two presenters that while his mug can be picked up, it… Read the full story

Paul Moore got memed after a pic of him at a festival went viral got memed so he decided to slim down Mercury
Paul suffered online abuse after his picture (right) was posted online (Picture: Mercury)

After a picture of him with his topless at a music festival was shared thousands of times online, Paul Moore was told he was ‘so fat he should be shot’ by strangers on Facebook.

The 26-year-old from Cork, Ireland, says he was ‘devastated’ when the photo of him on his mate’s shoulders appeared in a lads’ mag with the caption: ‘Make extra beer money by renting yourself as a human forklift for less mobile punters.’

Words we all know that mean something totally different in Scotland Getty
(Picture: Getty/Metro)

It’s only over the border, but to English people, Scotland can sometimes seem like a whole different world and vice versa.

Where language is concerned, Scotland has an enjoyable array of beautiful dialects and accents to enjoy, as well as a bank of vocabulary that you won’t enjoy anywhere else.

But even when words are used which you think you understand, you might not be getting the message that you think. Here are a selection of words that mean something completely different when used in the North of the UK.

How much wood would a woodchuck actually chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

It’s a tongue twister that’s been included in many a pub conversation over the years: How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

The longer the conversation went on, the harder it was to say.

But two scientists came up with an ‘answer’. It appeared in the Annals of Improbable Research and, while we’re not at all saying this is a peer-reviewed journal and incredibly reputable, the two scientists are actual scientists.

PA Paskevich and TB Shea have co-written such light reading as how ‘aluminum salts induce the accumulation of neurofilaments in perikarya of NB2a/dl neuroblastoma‘ but turned their hands to something lighter on this occasion.

If a duck had a moustache, where would it be?

Following on from the most recent important animal debate – the much-pondered question of how a dog would wear trousers should they get the opportunity to wear them – we’ve recently come across another question that people just can’t figure out the answer to.

This time, involving a duck. And a moustache. Yes, you read that correctly.

The argument, which was started by Twitter user @papsby, consisted of four drawings, labelled A to D.

Each image featured a different duck, all modelling separate moustaches placed on different areas of their face.

And after setting up a poll on Twitter to ask his followers which image they believed represented the correct way for a duck to wear a moustache, he received a whole array of answers.

Think you’ve got an overly expressive face? After watching this glorious reaction to a performance on Australia’s Got Talent, we can almost guarantee you ain’t got nothing on this guy.

And we can’t be more grateful to Reddit user Circusactone, who posted the incredible reaction online for everyone to enjoy.

While it’s not 100% clear what the guy is reacting to, from his facial expressions it must have been pretty incredible – at least to him.

Every other member of the audience is clapping along to the performance, while our guy watches the stage while having his mind blown again and again.

It is a beautiful moment.

Warning: There may be spoilers ahead.

For those who haven’t spent the weekend glued to new 10-part Netflix documentary Making a Murderer, it follows the real-life trials of Wisconsin man Steven Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey, who were accused in 2005 of the murder of 25-year-old Teresa Halbach.

Steven Avery had previously served 18 years in prison after being wrongly convicted of sexual assault in 1985.

He was released in 2003, after new DNA tests showed another man was guilty of the crime.

Internet dating is a minefield of swiping left/right, charming, Bumbling, Happning and all sorts else.

But one constant seems to be the ability of a man not to take no for an answer. Or, perhaps more correctly, their ability not to take silence for an answer.

And he will chase you. And chase you. And then just image search you to find you on Facebook or Twitter.

BECAUSE MEN ARE WEIRD

But there is a seemingly foolproof way to stop it.

One woman, who wishes to remain anonymous for obvious reasons, has found a way to help men realise the error in their creeping ways and actually just be normal.

‘It happens a lot but this actually works most of the time,’ she says.

‘It sounds obvious but when you call them out on it, and second guess all their bulls*** replies, they actually respond positively.

Let’s be honest, if Marilyn Monroe had been a millennial she would have been the queen of the basics.

After all, she was the poster girl for mass-produced popular culture in her own era – remember those works by Andy Warhol?

Now she lives on in the Facebook profiles of basic bitches everywhere, with the quote ‘If you can’t handle me at my worst, you don’t deserve me at my best’ plastered over her face.

(FYI she probably never even said that – there’s no attributable source for it – but if you’re into posting quotes from teenage girls attributed to our favourite blonde bombshell we have an excellent generator you can… Read the full story

Always on hand to serve you some truth

Parents are the only people who never (really) offend us when they’re completely honest.

Usually we find ourselves getting a little upset if someone gets a little personal.

We don’t really appreciate our flatmates telling us our latest Tinder catch is a waste of space, or that we ‘look well’.

But, when it comes to our parents, we have no issues.

Because if your mum can’t tell you that you need to shower because you smell, who else can?

Here’s 13 things only your parents are allowed to say to you.

This is what happens when Face Swap goes bad.

This father got more than he bargained for when he uploaded an innocent selfie of himself with his baby daughter to the Face Swap app… and it turned them both into monsters.

It appears that the app recognised the dad’s nostrils as his eyes and based the face swap around that.

In any case, Dad ended up with his baby’s face for a nose while his beautiful baby ended up looking like a terrifying demon.

Maybe in future he should try to swap with someone his own size.

No one’s told this guy it’s 2016 yet. Instead, he’s still living that 00s dream.

A time when we thought Lauren and Heidi actually liked each other and we were all wondering if Audrina would ever get over Justin Bobby.

Because this guy is belting out reality TV show The Hills’ theme tune like it’s still 2006.

Let’s be honest, if we heard it on the radio while driving with a friend we’d probably be singing just as loudly.

Holiday setting (Picture: Witchoria)

What would it look like if humans came with IT helpdesk-style error messages?

Like on Monday mornings when we’re all just basically buffering until we’ve had our first double shot of caffeine.

Or when you’ve had a terrible night’s sleep because you spent too long checking Twitter – in other words, ‘error occurred during restart’.

Brooklyn-based graphic designer Victoria Siemer, also known as Witchoria, had just that thought so she created her ongoing photoseries ‘Human Error’.

She has, she admits, a ‘penchant for ennui, existential crisis, and heartbreak.’

All of which she’s managed to boil down into those very recognisable error messages we all love to hate.

Have you ever thought to ask Google what an ‘angry dragon’ is using Google android’s voice search function? No? I mean why would you? Unless of course you were stuck on some extremely hard level of a video game that involved a terribly angry dragon, that is.

Yep – that’d be completely understandable.

I mean, surely angry dragon could only mean one thing, right? Perhaps a scary, fire-breathing dragon. One you’d see in an action movie, or something.

But nope. The term ‘angry… Read the full story

Nikkole Paulun, a mother from Monroe, Michigan, recently wrote a post on Facebook about her six-year-old son that sparked unexpected controversy.

The mother posted a photo of her son with a note praising him for the beautiful way he treats her on their monthly dinner date.

She wrote in the post that her boy takes her for a meal each month, during which he opens doors for her, pulls out her chair and pays the bill for whatever she chooses using money he earns from doing chores.

The post, in which Nikkole reveals that her son even tips the waiters, has caused many parents to express their views – and to comment on… Read the full story

Starbucks introduces a latte macchiato and we’re struggling to understand what it is

what is the new starbucks coffee - latte macchiato
What is this madness? (Picture: Starbucks)

Starbucks has added a brand new drink to its menu and instead of salivating as per usual, we’re left wondering WTF it all about?

For the latest concoction is a latte macchiato.

As in, they’re mixing what is a very milky coffee with nearly no foam, with a coffee that is all espresso and foam.

Which is confusing. Is it simply a strong latte? Or perhaps a very milky cappuccino?

People of Twitter are questioning what it is:
