Is sex stopping me from finding The One? (Picture: Joshua Atkins)

Most people opt for the typical New Year’s resolutions – getting fitter, hitting the gym, stopping smoking or quitting alcohol.

Me? I’ve given up sex.

I know what you’re thinking. Either I’ve caught syphilis from a backpacker in Thailand or I’ve not had any bangs in ages so just decided to make it a thing.

It’s actually neither.

My reason to clamp my legs closed is all down to the sexual connection gremlin.

In case you didn’t know, the sexual connection gremlin is the pesky thing that makes you hop into bed with a guy who you don’t even like and don’t want as a boyfriend,… Read the full story

Not gonna lie, some of these are just way too funny not to share.

1. Kiss

Far from referring to puckering up, the word kiss in Swedish actually translates to ‘pee’. This just feels like almost completely opposite ends of the spectrum, well, unless you’re into that kind of thing. Ick.

Have some respect. (Picture: Getty)

There are some people who just want to watch the world burn.

The ones who take something that should be pure and wonderful, and turn it into a disgrace.

One of those people is Mr Smith. He is a man that has messed with the one thing we still hold true and dear: pizza.

How? We’re warning you now. This is worse than just picking off pepperoni, or stealing the last slice. This goes far, far beyond that.

When Mr Smith picks up a pizza box, he doesn’t hold it in his two hands, as respectful people do. Instead he turns the box sideways and carries it under his arm. So all the… Read the full story

Testing people’s Resolve (Picture: Parker Gibbons)

People can take many different approaches to the new year.

Some people want to get fit. Some want to just be happier. And some people just really want to finish their clock.

This wildly different approach to New Year’s resolutions is what inspired 18-year-old photographer Parker Gibbons’ ‘Resolve’ photo series.

‘I really like the idea of New Years. I mean, I don’t think I’ve ever kept a single resolution I’ve ever made, but I like the idea of actively trying to change something to make one’s life better,’ Parker, a freshman at the University of Utah, explains.

Finally, science has proven what we all knew to be true: dogs know exactly how we’re feeling, and that’s why they’re always there for us when we need them.

According to a new study published in Biology Letters, dogs are able to recognise emotions in both dogs and humans.

Researchers studied 17 family dogs, and showed each of them photos of a person or dog with a happy expression, or an angry/aggressive expression. As the dogs looked at the photos, they also heard positive or negative sounds, which were barks or a person speaking in another language.

Here we were thinking drinking your coffee black made you a total badass.

We were wrong, so very wrong.

Norway’s Trym Nordgaard has shown us that there’s a whole new level of offhand cool, a level we didn’t even realise existed.

Unless you’re sliding down a snowy mountain, with a billowing red dressing gown, book casually poised in one hand, coffee cup in the other, you don’t deserve to be drinking coffee.

Not like this guy.

Remember this awkward people.

Smooth talking individuals might think they have game, but really it’s the socially awkward people everyone wants to be with.

Apparently blushing, stumbling on your words and getting easily embarrassed is a major turn on.

A study, conducted at the University of California Berkeley, recorded videos of people telling extremely cringe stories.

A panel then judged them on how awkward they seemed, by looking out for the trademarks of socially awkward people everywhere.

Things like avoiding the gaze of others, hanging the head to the side, nervously smiling, touching the face in an attempt to hide it – that kind of stuff.

Laxmi Saa is the incredible survivor of an acid attack, committed by a friend’s 32-year-old brother.

Her crime? Saa had refused his proposal of marriage.

She was just 15 years old.

Saa spoke to the BBC about the attack: ‘It felt cold first. Then I felt an intense burning. Then the liquid melted my skin.’

There’s still a huge stigma in India surrounding acid attack survivors, and Saa spent many years hiding in her house until the death of her father.

After the shock of his death, Saa found the courage to start campaigning and speak out against the unregulated sale… Read the full story

Teatoxes were bad enough. Detoxes in general, actually, appear to be total nonsense with little to no evidence of their claimed benefits. But at least chugging herbal tea and the occasional green juice wasn’t doing us too much harm.

That isn’t the case for the new detoxing trend to hit the internet: sticking tiny balls of herbs inside your vagina to ‘detox’ the womb.

Among others, a website called Embrace Pangaea is selling something called Herbal Womb Detox Pearls – little bags of ‘ancient herbs’ that customers are encouraged to insert deep into their vagina… Read the full story

A ‘pastafarian’ man has just become the first person in Russia to win the right to wear a knitted colander on his head in his drivers licence, as a tribute which is considered to be indispensable to the community.

Andrei Filin, a follower of the Russian Pastafarian Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster – a light hearted religion designed to satirise creationism and the literal interpretation of religious scripture – posted a picture of his achievement on Twitter.

He captioned his photo, which was issued by a Main Directorate for Road Traffic Safety office in Moscow on January 9, 2016, with ‘The first license with a colander in Russia! What a great day!’

But according to the Pastafarian church’s website, the decision to allow the colander didn’t come… Read the full story

Look we’re totally not judging.

Irish names are tough for those who aren’t fluent in the Gaelic ways.

But, if you’re going to insist on writing your customers’ names on your coffee cups, there’s an argument that you should be pretty hot on your spelling.

Particularly if you’ve got branches throughout Ireland and you’re going to have Grainnes, Niamhs and Saoirses coming at you on a daily basis.

Sadly, Starbucks still hasn’t got a handle on those tricky Irish names. So much so that there’s now an Instagram account – Irish Starbucks Names – dedicated to celebrating the funniest misspellings by bemused baristas.

XX reasons cheese is the ultimate bae
Cheese, glorious cheese. (Picture: Getty/Metro)

Just when we thought we couldn’t love cheese any more than we already did, science comes along and gives us yet more cause for worship.

The latest information that’s got us racing for the cheese aisle? Cheese could help kill cancer cells.

The cancer-fighting properties come from the natural preservative nisin, which is found in cheeses such as Brie, cheddar and Camembert.

Is there anything this delicious dairy product cannot do?

In a study, rats with tumours in their heads and necks who were fed nisin experienced extended survival rates, with 70-80 per cent of their cancerous tumor cells being killed.

There’s been so many disastrous Tinder dates and downright cringey chat up lines that we sincerely didn’t think it could get anymore entertaining.

Until, these guys came along, that is.

Starting a conversation with something a little different after they matched on Tinder, the girl – who we can only guess is called Samantha judging by the conversation, was propositioned with 3 options.

She could either pick an obligatory pick up line from her match, a standard greeting, or a rap battle.

And obviously she chose the rap battle… who wouldn’t?!

Reddit user OnlyTheRarestPepe decided to post his Tinder conversation online, to show us all… Read the full story

Do you ever find yourself getting really frustrated when looking for hotels when you have a dog?

Because you know you want to bring them along on your travels, but every half-decent place you find has a ‘no dogs’ policy. Annoying, right?

For this hotel, it’s a totally different issue. They’re 100% fine with dogs enjoying a nice, relaxed stay at their hotel. The real issue, however? Humans.

The Cartwright Hotel in San Francisco seem to be way more concerned with the havoc a human can raise than the mess a dog can cause.  And for good reason, too.

A picture of their hilariously accurate policy was posted to Reddit by user SumFuckah, and has been viewed almost a million times.

Although smoking in beds, setting fire to blankets and stealing towels doesn’t apply to all, the comparisons raise some pretty good points about respect for others… Read the full story
