So much better than plodding away in a dingy basement (Picture: Getty)

Exercising is a faff, and anyone who says otherwise is clearly insane.

But when it comes to losing weight and staying healthy, it’s a necessary evil.

With the New Year not that long gone, we bet a fair few of you are currently trying to control the carbs the hard way.

But, when it comes to pumping those muscles and getting your heart rate going, there really is nothing like exploring the great outdoors to keep you motivated.

FYI this isn’t me. You’ll never make friends like this (Picture: Getty)

Hi, I’m Kate. I’m 13,500km away from my friends and family in Sydney, Australia.

There are 8.6million people in London.

Narrow that down by age and I’m looking at roughly 3.5 million potential new friends.

Making friends is a lot like dating.

It’s awkward, it makes you vulnerable and it only gets harder with age.

But what are you going to do, go down the local pub and read on your own forever?

Give these a try and look, if all else fails, we’ll be friends.

Here are my 12 best strategies for befriending people in a new city.

1. Follow people on Twitter. You get to talk to a stranger… Read the full story

What the way you kiss says about your relationship

Kissing 2

Which way do you tilt your head when you kiss your other half? If you typically tilt your head to the right, good news – you still have romantic feelings for them.

Whereas, if you tilt your head to the left, your feelings might be more, um, platonic.

Researchers from the University of Saskatchewan, Canada, analysed over 500 pictures of people kissing, and compared kisses between couples with platonic kisses, such as between family members, to see if there was any difference in approach.

And they found that, in most cases (80 per cent) lovers rotated or tilted their heads slightly to the right when embracing, whereas the same people went the opposite way when kissing their friends or family.

‘Our research demonstrated the novel finding that turning bias was modulated by the context of the kiss, as a leftward directionality was observed for the parental context and a reversed rightward bias for romantic kissing,’ Read the full story

Still, the DIY store’s attempts at troubleshooting relationship problems for a campaign which ran in Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand, are pretty adorable.

Introducing the IKEA love manual – tl;dr: everyone loves hot dogs.

Ikea solves all those little problems.

Girl uses paint roller to apply fake tan, doesn’t quite work out the way she’d expected

If there was a quick, inexpensive way to go about getting a tan, we’d all be doing it.

Unless we can afford a frequent sunbed, professional spray tan or summer holiday, most of us tend to rely on DIY fake tan.

But one girl thought she’d found a nifty little fake-tan hack, decreasing the time it takes to apply the fake tan while also applying it more evenly.

And her secret? A paint-roller.

She posted the tip to Facebook in an attempt to save other girls half an hour when getting ready for a night out.

Having seen the promise that a paint roller was the perfect solution to avoiding that horrible streaky tan, one girl took her up on the idea and tried it out for herself.

But unfortunately, it didn’t work out quite as well for her (we think, we’re still a little suspicious):

If you thought you were the most dedicated Lord of the Rings fan ever, think again.

Because this woman has put her blood, sweat and tears (okay, maybe a slight exaggeration) into perfecting the ultimate LOTR Monopoly board.

Sonja Batusic was left feeling pretty disappointed after she almost bought an already-made LOTR Monopoly board game on eBay. Taking a close look into the game before she was urged to buy – being the mega-fan that she is – she noticed that there was a parking lot in the Middle-Earth section of the game.

The parking lot bothered her – and we must admit it doesn’t seem very much LOTR style, and so she decided against buying the game.

But still focused on playing a Monopoly of her favourite franchise, she got to work on creating her own.

Finding an old wooden box in her basement, she noted the dimensions of the box and started thinking of ideas for… Read the full story

According to a UK study published in the Journal of Headache and Pain, a spritz of cold mist up your nose could instantly rescue you from migraine pain.

There’s a big difference between the Transylvanians you read about and the Transylvanians you actually meet

Bran Castle – filled with vampires – right? (Picture: Getty)

There are two types of Transylvanians in the media: the type who have come to the UK to steal your jobs/women/money/houses/stuff and the type with fangs and a long overcoat.

Oh, and Vlad the Impaler. He’s a type all to himself.

Romanians, we read, are eight times more likely to be in a British jail than a British person, they’re ‘interested in coming to this country just to rob people’ and there are a large number of them living on the streets.

You read about Dracula, you read about Transylvania, you read about the latest releases of the latest family movies all about the gentrification of… Read the full story

Doting husband spends 5 years illustrating his love for his wife

One man has spent the past five years illustrating his undying love for his wife.

Andrew Hou was a fan of sending cute drawings to his other half via text message – as he found it easier to express his love visually instead of verbally.

But after a few cute drawings, it quickly became routine for Andrew before developing into a passion. From this, he decided to create a whole series, in which each drawing perfectly depicts the love he has for his wife.

He called the series ‘HJ-story’, which he named after his wife’s Korean initials.

His series first began as a personal blog for he and his wife, but after one of his friends shared one of the drawings, Andrew began gaining followers from all over the world, and quickly his small blog turned into a public Facebook page with over 400k likes.

A 71-year-old man has devised a remarkably clever way to avoid the highway on his commute to work each morning.

And his route doesn’t involve walking nor does it require the use of any wheels.

Gabe Horcler, who lives in Washington DC, got sick of getting stuck in traffic for hours on end each day just to travel to and from work.

And the sounds of modern day technology and road noises also became irritating, he decided he needed to find another way to commute – and it turns out the perfect way was just along the river. Literally.

When Brits do pregnancy announcements (Picture: SWNS)

When Americans do heartwarming pregnancy announcements, they tend to go all-out. There are tears, gender reveal cakes and, sometimes, fainting.

When Brits do it, there’s a lot less drama, but it is no less touching.

Meet Beth, 34, and Jamie Wilson, 37, from Wiltshire. They married in 2005 and first started trying for a family a year later.

They ended up going through seven years of IVF, finally becoming parents to son Eli two years ago.

They were, however, soon desperate to add to the family, so they began treatment all over again.

melting chocolate ball

We’ll be honest: we didn’t believe anything could be much sexier than melted chocolate.

But someone’s managed it. They’ve created a pudding experience that’s even more sensual than tapping the topping on a creme brulee, swirling cold cream on top of a steaming hot chocolate sponge, or even eating melted chocolate out of a bowl while watching re-runs of Gilmore Girls.

Presenting the melting chocolate ball. It’s all over the internet, and it’s the greatest form of food porn the world has ever seen.

As the name probably gives away, it’s a massive hollow ball of chocolate, with a hidden dessert inside. You pour on some warm sauce on top, and the ball melts away to reveal all its delicious secrets.

Because, let’s face it, we’ve all been there. We’re just not so sure we handled it as well as Quinn.

Girl fights back at kids who bullied her for having red hair by starting her own beauty pageant

Tiegan aged 8 (2).jpg

A teenage girl has become a model after being ridiculed at school for having red hair.

Tiegan, a 17-year-old teen from Gloucestershire, grew up as the only redhead in her immediate family, despite inheriting her red locks from her grandfather.

She was called names by classmates and some taunted her, telling her she must’ve been adopted because her parents and siblings didn’t share the hair colour.

She felt pressured into dyeing her hair dark brown because she ‘wanted to blend in so people would stop looking at her’, according to MailOnline.

But, the change in colour didn’t make her more confident, it just left her feeling as though she was not herself anymore. And so Tiegan ended up going back to her natural colour.

‘When I went back to my natural red colour, I felt like me again. I just thought, ‘the redder the better!” she said.

And it seems the hair-undying experience changed… Read the full story
