11 thoughts every dad-to-be has on the maternity ward

OUCH – my hand! (Picture: Getty)

Whether it’s in the delivery suite or at home after the birth, the worries of becoming a new father are often overlooked.

For any expectant fathers or curious new mums, here’s what goes through every dad-to-be’s head on the labour ward…

1. Wait, I have to leave the ward to pee?

Most hospitals have you leave the ward to go to the toilet. It can get irritating really quickly as you have to buzz in and out every couple or hours. Especially on a night when masses of women are trying to get some hard earned rest.

2. I am super hungry

Long days and nights make a man hungry. There is only so much toast you can eat before… Read the full story

Greatest boyfriend ever makes a Valentine’s Day bouquet out of chicken nuggets and fries

This is what love looks like. (Picture: Facebook/Tiera Leftwich)

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: nothing says love quite like carbs.

So on Valentine’s Day, what we really want isn’t a bunch of flowers (although we’ll take them, if anyone’s offering). It’s a whole load of carby goodness. Pizza? Pasta? Bread? We’re into it.

And so, we offer the highest honour of best Valentine’s Day gesture of the year to student Kamren Kennedy, who treated his girlfriend, Tiera Leftwich, to a bouquet of Chick-Fil-A chicken nuggets and fries on February 14.

We can’t think of many things more romantic.

Everyone’s losing their minds over this hot granddad

That smile, though. (Picture: Imgur)

Let this serve as a lesson to us all: If you share an old photo of one of your grandparents online, don’t expect comments like ‘gee, what a wonderful slice of history’ or ‘what an inspiring figure.’

Nope. Expect everyone to think your grandparent is a total hottie. Prepare for floods of comments perving all over them. This is what the internet is for. It’s a wonderful place.

Redditor Togakure shared a photo of his granddad this week, with the simple caption: ‘My Grandfather in 1950 before deploying to Korea.’

And so the comments flooded… Read the full story

This website generates calming manatee memes to soothe your soul

We instantly feel calmer (Picture: Calming Manatee)

You okay hun?

Life can be stressful. Sometimes you just need a little pick-me-up. Sometimes you just need some kind words from a calming manatee.

Which is where the Calming Manatee meme generator comes in. The website provides endless pictures of sea cows, and their kind words, to soothe your soul.

The site was created a couple of years ago by web design and development firm Ethercycle and seems to have been the result of misunderstanding of the words ‘matinee’ and ‘manatee’.

And, in this modern world where people are actually considering voting for Trump and other people are crowdfunding so Kanye West can make more £200 trainers, we think… Read the full story

23 possible reasons your baby wakes up at night

I’m wide awake (Picture: Getty)

We expect our babies to wake up during the night. But as they can only communicate with cries, giggles or gurgles, the tricky bit is working out why.

As we stagger towards our screaming bundles of joy at 2/3/4am, we desperately try to figure out what is wrong. Are they teething, hungry, do they have wind, are they nocturnal?!

But help is at hand. I have put together a comprehensive list of all the reasons why babies wake up at night (probably):

1. A dirty nappy.

2. A phantom dirty nappy. They wake up, you can smell poo, you put them on the changing mat, they are now WIDE awake but you take… Read the full story

The biggest dog-themed event of the year, the Westminster Dog Show, took place yesterday, with the greatest award for best in show going to C.J., a male German shorthaired pointer.

Which is lovely, sure. He seems like a cool dog.

But we’re a little tired of the harsh judgment involved in this fierce competition. There are prizes in each dog breed category, in each skill set, and… Read the full story

These are all the stages we go through when we try oh-so-hard to shift that tricky belly fat. It’s funny how it seems to be the easiest to put on,… Read the full story

Red wine and cheese. That’s pretty much all you need to be happy.

1. You’re always disappointed when someone offers you wine and it turns out to be white wine. WTF IS THIS INJUSTICE?!

2. And it’s even worse when you go to a party and you’re the only one who brings a bottle of red because you then have to guard it with your life.

3. Then you go on to explain how red is far superior, better for your health and a decent excuse to have steak for dinner.

Cookies

Calorie-free cookies and fat-free doughnuts have been the stuff of dreams since time began.

Sorry, it still is.

But one company is trying really hard to make junk food healthy by upping the protein content, slashing sugar and stuffing it with so-called superfoods.

NUFF (Natural Unprocessed Fat Burning Food) has taken the worst bits out of doughnut, cookie and brownie recipes, lessening the saturated fats, starchy carbs and sugars.

Pub invents new Guinness drink called a ‘Badger’ and it’s a worrying turn of events

So this happened (Picture: Marine Boathouse/Facebook)

This cannot end well.

In celebration of ‘young farmers weekend’ (what else?), a pub in Skegness recently came up with a new way to enjoy Guinness, and it looks terrifying.

It involves Smirnoff Ice, everyone’s favourite 90s alcopop, which used to make your teeth fuzzy with all the sugar.

The cocktail combines a bottle of Smirnoff Ice and half a pint of the black stuff – which floats rather prettily/disconcertingly on top – and it’s called the Badger.

The Marine Boathouse bar on Lumley Road, Skegness, shared pictures of its new special drink on Facebook last weekend and it caused quite the stir.

Have you ever received an insult that has left you feeling more confused than upset?

People are sharing them to give others a giggle at their insult-er’s expense.

Posting to Reddit, user Outrage-Dragon asked the question: ‘What’s an insult that was said to you that left you more confused than offended?

And after much thought, many people embarked on a little trip down memory lane before revealing the insults that have left them scratching their heads.

One person answered:

Once I found myself in a bidding war over a used car. After I won, the other bidder called to me as I was leaving “hey you, in the yellow shirt. You’re stupid, that’s why you’re wearing glasses”

This guy was actually just doing as he was told:

Someone once yelled “Learn to drive” at me, while I was learning to drive in a marked student car.

Why would you?

adipositivity project proves love has no size
Love comes in all sizes. (Picture: Substantia Jones of the Adipositivity Project)

The image of love we’re shown on TV, in films, and in adverts is restricted. Couples fit into narrow requirements of ‘acceptable’, as if only a rigid set of people are worthy of romantic scenes.

*In unsurprising news, you will see NSFW images of naked people below*

In the mainstream media, couples are slim. They’re traditionally pretty. They’re young. The majority are white and straight.

Sure, there might be a lesbian couple popping up in advert. But you can bet they’ll be stereotypically gorgeous.

Maybe you’ll see the occasional woman larger than a size 14 on TV. But they’ll be… Read the full story

The Parmesan you’re sprinkling on your pasta might actually be wood

Your Parmesan might not actually be Parmesan. (Picture: Getty)

Just as we were processing the news that the lobster served in restaurants might not actually be lobster, the U.S. FDA has released another life-ruining ‘that food is not actually what you think’ revelation.

Turns out the grated Parmesan we’re sprinkling all over our pasta? It might not actually be cheese. In fact, it might be wood.

Oh.

The FDA has been hard at work testing pre-grated Parmesan sold in U.S. supermarkets. They found that many products that are marketed as 100% Parmesan cheese are actually bulked up with other, cheaper products, such as cheddar and cellulose – an anti-clumping agent made from wood… Read the full story
