As life hacks go, it definitely won’t make you any more efficient – much less so, in fact.

And, in the event of a zombie apocalypse, it’s unlikely you’ll be left with only popcorn kernels and your GHDs. Unlikely but not impossible.

But, still, it’s good to know there are people out there investigating this sort of stuff, just in case.

A Japanese Twitter user posted this video of a popcorn kernel being puffed up inside some hair straighteners last week, and it’s pretty inspiring stuff.

A poem written by a 10-year-old as part of his homework assignment is offering people a glimpse into what it’s like living with Aspergers.

The student called Benjamin had to write a poem entitled ‘I Am.’ He was given the first two words of each sentence and he was asked to write the rest.

His mum shared the poem with the National Autism Association (NAA), a parent-run non-profit organisation in the US, over the weekend.

It has now been liked over 11,000 times and is helping people understand how isolated people with Aspergers can feel, and how much of a struggle it is… Read the full story

Well this is definitely a memorable way to welcome your child into the world.

When 31-year-old Sarah Downs read about her obstetrician, Dr Shiri Dutt, performing a maternal-assisted caesarean, she knew she wanted to try it for herself when she gave birth to her second child.

She’d had trouble giving birth naturally the first time around, so a planned caesarean with involvement optional seemed like the perfect option.

‘I wanted to have a more personal experience,’ Sarah told Daily Mail Australia.

Guess who wins? (Picture: Storyful/The Fortin Trio)

Parenting isn’t a competition. But if it was, we’re pretty sure we know who’d win.

Ryan and Desiree Fortin just welcomed triplets – whose genders they recently revealed through an adorable surprise video.

They’ve been hard at work taking care of three kids all at once, and decided to make all that work a little more fun by adding the element of competition.

So they challenged each other to a nappy changing competition. Yep, mum against dad, in an intense battle to see who can change three nappies the fastest.

Guess who won?

These kids went out of their way to get detention and we can’t help but admire their commitment

Naughty

Call it bravery, call it stupidity, but these kids have really gone out of their way to earn their detentions.

We probably shouldn’t, but we can’t help admire their lack of any concern for rules and social conventions.

Perhaps some kids just aren’t meant to be cooped up in classrooms.

Some are meant to be protecting Gotham City, some are meant to be at home watching cat videos on YouTube, and some just want to watch the world (specifically, the science lab) burn.

Here’s to the rebels, the mavericks, the outsiders and the pug-lovers.

Warning: there is swearing.

Reason for detention no. 1: ‘Student threw sandwich across class screaming YOLO’.

It's hilarious what kids get detention for these days

Reason no. 2 (as written by the guilty party): ‘Yelling “sausage” and “deez nuts” during test that was given. Asked him to stop and he replied “your [sic] not my dad”‘.

What is the Day of Silence?

It’s an American student-led event championed by the Gay, Lesbian and Straight Education Network (GLSEN) that falls on April 15.

Students from middle school to college take a vow of silence for the day in order to draw attention to the homophobic bullying and harassment that silences LGBT pupils.

When did it begin?

In 1996 University of Virginia college students staged the first Day of Silence event as part of a project about non-violent protests.

In 1997 they took it national and by 2001 GLSEN became the official sponsor.

Everyone likes to look good in their year book photos.

One guy, however, decided that his senior year photos were not going to be about being popsed up and over-groomed.

Instead, he wanted to focus on the thing that makes him ‘him’. His sense of humour.

And so, Kris Costello enlisted his photographer friend Taylor Haggard to shoot what could possible be the best year book photos ever.

While some parents would be a bit dismayed about the lack of a professional photo, Kris’s parents were totally on board.

He told Mashable: ‘My parents thought that the pictures were hilarious.

‘They know that they’re just for fun, and that I’m not actually putting… Read the full story

Annick Robinson was left feeling both shocked and bemused after she was approached by a salesman who was advertising wrinkle cream.

Having ‘suckered’ her in with a free bar of natural soap, the man went on to target Annick’s age as a selling point.

First, he complimented her on her skin, and politely guessed she was 12 years younger.

While some may giggle, blush and thank the man for the compliment, Annick wasn’t having any of it.

In a Facebook post which has gone viral with over 24,000 shares, Annick told of how she knew she looked her age, and that it was okay.

Beer tap

Russian man Andrey Yeremeev loves his beer.

He loves his beer so much, he had a beer tap installed in his kitchen.

He has his normal tap for hot and cold water and, above that, he has another tap for beer.

Andrey is a true visionary.

He lives in Chelyabinsk and recently appeared on local news channel 74TV News Chelyabinsk to show off his feat of engineering.

The dream was made possible because Andrey’s flat sits above a small brewery. He originally suggested the idea of a beer pipeline to the brewery CEO as a joke, but not only did they tell him it could be done, but they dispatched one of their engineers to help install it.

Together, they laid a 10 metre beer pipeline, which is connected to a keg in the brewery (which has its own cooling system) at one end, and Andrey’s kitchen tap at the other.

When you face swap with your nan, you’re expecting a bit of a laugh. You’re probably not expecting to end up looking like a certain irksome TV presenter.

Hannah Leatherbarrow, 27, who lives in St Helens in Merseyside, recently went round to visit her grandparents Clare, 86, and Frank, 84, before they went off on holiday.

Over a pre-holiday glass of wine, Hannah and her nan started playing around with the face swap app.

But when they showed the resulting pictures to Granddad Frank, he pointed out that Hannah now bore more than a passing resemblance to Jeremy Clarkson.

Not ideal.

While Instagram is home to practically every #hashtag in the world, it’s also getting pretty well known for its beauty hacks.

With every makeup artist that uses the app to show off complicated looks and to create a portfolio of the high glamour work they do, comes a makeup artist who’s set on bringing hacks for people wanting to beautify themselves speedily.

Such as this beauty vlogger, Farah Dhuki, who in a short Instagram video has shown her 497,000 followers how she managed to make a whitehead vanish within a couple of seconds using one natural hack. And no, it wasn’t using her fingers to pop it – although we all know how satisfying that can be.

Nope, instead of getting it in between her fingernails and aiming for the mirror, she used something pretty unexpected to clear a small spot on her chin.

A clove of garlic.

Puppy Barley had quite the adventure recently.

At five-months-old, he managed to escape obedience class, fall off the edge of a 500ft high cliff, and somehow survive.

Vets told owner Heather Gange that her beloved Barley was lucky to be alive after he fell off the cliff at Beachy Head, East Sussex.

The puppy had apparently been attending obedience school with Heather’s mum Beverley Wilson near the top of Beachy Head when a tangle with another dog’s lead allowed him to make his escape.

After the dogs’ leads got tangled, both owners let go, allowing Barley to speed off. He headed… Read the full story

Weep for humanity. We have destroyed one of the great, simple pleasures of our time: escaping our daily lives and watching a movie.

Because with our mobile phone dependence and Twitter scrolling addiction, we’ve now given cinema chains the idea to have phone-friendly cinemas – to appeal to their millennial audiences.

Yep. Phone-friendly cinemas are on the way. Everything is ruined.

The CEO of AMC Entertainment – an American cinema company, but we’re pretty sure this decision will one day trickle down to the UK – has announced plans to create special phone-friendly screenings.

When Julia Cain walked down the aisle on March 12, she had the perfect ‘something old’ and ‘something borrowed’ – her wedding dress.

The timeless wedding gown was first worn by her grandmother Phyllis Jo Raymond in 1953, and then by her mum Susan Kay Traver, almost exactly 30 years to the day, in 1983.

And what makes this story even more special is that Granddad Harold had the privilege of walking of all three women down the aisle.

Julia, 26, from St. Louis, Missouri, told ABC News: ‘Harold has walked with all three women who wore the dress: his first wife, my mother and me.’
