Ahhhhh. (Picture: Imgur)

Having a rubbish day? These photos will help.

Because there are few things as quietly satisfying as when things just fit. When things slot perfectly together. When they slip into place.

We can’t quite explain why these things make us feel so soothed, but they do – every single time. Even if its not actually our perfectly aligned books or smooth ice cream scoop.

Just seeing someone else’s amazing visual luck is enough.

Because when you see these things, you know it’s going to be a good day.

Do you remember your first love? Perhaps you fell for them in maths class and you got your friend to ask them out for you.

How about your first heartbreak? The realisation that they didn’t feel the same way as you when you noticed they were actually trying to run away from you during kiss chase.

We feel for you.

But probably not as much as we feel for this poor guy, who braved asking out his school crush a few years back in a somewhat forward letter – and got truly wounded.

Reddit user reasonable-doubt posted the letter online after he found it in a box of his old school projects.

The post was made two years ago, but has recently resurfaced.

The letter reads:

Dear Ashley,

Would you please be my girlfriend I like you a lot.

*Yes* *No* *Maybe*

P.S. Please put yes or no or maybe.

Cheers to this news. (Picture: Getty/Selfridges/metro.co.uk)

Sure, it doesn’t rank up there with world hunger, sexism, and injustice, but it’s still bloody annoying: you’re downing drinks when you remember, mid-sip, that drinks are not magically calorie-free.

Nope. They have calories and fat. Which would be fine, except we already used up our recommended daily calorie intake lining our stomachs for the night with pizza and mac ‘n’ cheese.

It’s a sad state of affairs.

Which is why we are VERY pleased to learn that a slimline skinny prosecco exists in the world.

The big race is this Sunday and it’s almost time to start carb-loading.

If you’re running the London Marathon this April 24, you’ll need to fill up on carbohydrates to perform at your best.

Darren Craven, fitness coach at Amaven, says: ‘Your body uses carbs as its primary source of fuel when they are turned into glycogen for energy.

‘However, as your muscles can only store enough glycogen for an intense 90-minute exercise session, you need to ensure that you eat enough carbohydrates to be stored up and burned once the primary store has run out.’

Not you (Picture: Getty)

Everyone knows someone who is running the marathon this weekend, or who did it once, or who always talks about doing it and one day might. It’s a huge buzz just to be there and to witness the extraordinary levels of human effort on show as people run to the finish line.

But not everyone has to do it. Some of us just don’t really want to run 26 miles in front of lots of strangers. Here are 21 good reasons why you’re not running the marathon this Sunday.

1. You’re quite fond of your toenails.

2. You did a 10k once, and it was horrible.

3. You did another 10k, just to check, and that… Read the full story

M&S to start selling pre-sliced avocado in pots
Who can be bothered to slice their own avocado? Not us. (Picture: Alamy/metro.co.uk)

Every avocado fan knows that with great joy comes a great load of faff.

Seriously. Slicing avocados is annoying as f***. There’s the hard skin. The massive stone in the middle. Let’s not even get started about the ripeness factor.

So as much as we want to take the piss out of Marks & Spencer’s new foodie venture (because, you know, avocados don’t need excess packaging. They have loads of skin), we can’t.

It genuinely will save avocado lovers loads of time and effort. And it’s pretty genius for anyone with wrist issues.

20 things you’ll only know if you grew up on a council estate

There are certain assumptions some people will make when they find out you were brought up on a council estate.

Despite this, I wouldn’t change my childhood home for anything. I love where I come from, I miss the community I had around me in that tree-lined street of terraced houses and I know that the place I’m from helped shape me into the person I am today.

If you also grew up on a council estate, here are a few things you will understand…

1. You knew the names of your neighbours. It’s a cliché, but it’s true, regardless of whether you liked your neighbours or not, you did a least know their names.

The series, titled Transcend: Portraits of Transgender and Gender Diverse Youth, will be shown in an exhibition in Australia this month.

‘I wanted to create a photo series that would have an impact,’ Emma told metro.co.uk.

8 children’s princess books for parents who really don’t like princesses

I was determined not to expose my daughters to gender stereotyping. I avoided Disney princess films, Barbie dolls and books about fair maidens whose only goal in life was to marry a handsome prince.

However, despite all this, my children still got hit by the princess phase.

I suppose in a world where manufacturers continue to market pink and fluffy stuff to girls and physical, noisy toys to boys, it was inevitable that princesses would one day worm their way onto my children’s radars.

Fortunately, I scoured the book shops for stories about princesses that kick arse and found some brilliant ones. So wave goodbye to those sad Cinderella types who sit around waiting to be rescued.… Read the full story

Giant pizza-filled balls of fire are the hot new food trend

Cooking a pizza in a wood-fired oven? So last year.

The hot new food trend taking over Instagram is cooking your pizza inside a FIERY DOME OF FLAMES.

The dish is enigmatically named ‘The Bomb’, but we prefer to call it PIZZA FIRE BALLS (caps recommended, but not necessary).

It’s served up at a restaurant in South Korea called The Place, and is basically a giant dome that’s set on fire to cook the pizza hidden inside. Once sufficiently crisped, the waiter simply slices open the dome to reveal the gooey, cheesy pizza inside.

You’ll understand the concept more once you’ve seen it in action, so here’s a video:

First dates can often end up a waste of time and money and who can afford that?

Here are 12 tips to perk up your first dates and give them the best chance of leading to second dates.

1. Get active

If you end up with someone dull, imagine being stuck with them over dinner or the pub – argh. Don’t lose the will, instead choose a date scenario that creates a sense of fun and adventure. Go-karts, comedy, a festival anything that means that even if they’re dull, you’re still guaranteed a good time.

2. Ask better questions

It’s hard to be dull if someone is asking you interesting questions. Go for things like, ‘what’s in your fridge… Read the full story

18 fascinating things I learnt living next door to a prostitute

Everybody needs good neighbours – and it took me several months of living next door to a prostitute before I realised her occupation.

To be fair, why should I have? It’s not really any of my business and I tend to keep myself to myself anyway. It barely reached my notice that she had regular male visitors, all of whom were slightly different and one or two who wouldn’t look me in the eye as I passed them on the stairwell in the block of flats.

But after I got to know my neighbour, who is more than happy for me to talk about her occupation and her life but preferred… Read the full story

What happens if you get your period in space? (Picture: Warner Bros)

What happens when an astronaut gets her period while she’s in space?

Come on, you know you’ve wondered. And if you haven’t, you’re definitely questioning it now.

Does NASA have a special budget for special space-friendly tampons? Does menstruation magically not apply in zero-gravity? These are important questions that need answering.

And thankfully, someone’s – someone being Susan Scutti on Medical Daily – gone ahead and answered them for us. Hooray.

Scutti explains that back in the 80s and 90s, no one knew what would happen when it came to periods in space.

As big brands begin to embrace diversity – being different never looked so normal

Deep down we know shopping at Victoria’s Secret won’t turn us into an Angel and sipping Nespresso on a balcony won’t make George Clooney appear.

But despite any niggling doubts, flawless marketing campaigns often convince us how we should look and feel. Whether we’re punishing ourselves at the gym or feasting on fashion trends, many of us are constantly battling to conform and foregoing individuality to become what is considered ‘the norm’.

In reality people have impairments and are different sizes and we certainly don’t all look like models, so why hasn’t the mainstream media and big-brand advertising been reflecting this?

The good news is, things are changing, and… Read the full story
