Why does the sound of a tap dripping make you need to pee? (Picture: Getty/Alamy/Myles Goode)

It’s a struggle we’ve all been through. We say we need to wee at a moment when we can’t, and one of our ‘hilarious’ friends decides to send us videos of waterfalls and taps, or – if they don’t have their phone nearby – just makes do with making fake water noises.

It’s infuriating. That friend is awful.

But have you ever wondered why the sound of running water is so powerful when it comes to making you need to pee? Or why just… Read the full story

Yes, you can make your own fairy dust (Picture: The Kitten Butcher/Reddit)

Just a week ago, a Redditor shared a screengrab of some magical rainbow powder and asked: ‘Can anyone help me ID this iridescent rainbow blush from an Instagram post?’

People couldn’t stop looking at it. It looked like shimmering fairy dust. When swept across cheekbones, it appeared as though you had been licked by a unicorn.

The magic powder was tracked down to Etsy seller BitterLaceBeauty. But, beauty lovers’ joy was short-lived. Because the shop had been forced to stop taking orders due to overwhelming demand.

2016 is officially International Year of Pulses.

Sounds random, but the UN says so.

As we’re all learning that we should be cutting down on meat for health and the environment (ethics aside), we need to start eating more of something else.

And pulses – lentils, peas, chickpeas, beans – seem to be the top choice.

Retailers are going mad for it and there’s even a falafel festival this Sunday at London’s Borough Market too.

Here are some top facts… Read the full story

Finally, people with commitment issues will be able to get the tattoo they’ve been obsessing over on Instagram.

And no, we’re not talking about temporary tatts applied with a damp flannel.

We’re talking real, permanent tattoos that you can erase whenever you fancy – without a few rounds of painful, expensive laser removal.

A team of chemical engineers from New York University have created a new type of tattoo ink called Ephemeral. If left alone, the ink is just like a regular tattoo, staying on your skin FOREVER.

Many of us could do with getting more protein in, and cooking with protein powder is one way to do it.

Protein cooking is the latest ‘health’ trend in baking – and it can be added to anything from cakes and cookies to pies and pizza.

Bread, pies, wraps and more can be made much more nutritionally dense by using protein powder instead of flour.

The recommended protein intake for the sedentary adult to avoid deficiency is 0.75g of protein per kg of body weight, according to the Reference Nutrient Intake (RNI).

But the right amount of protein for an individual depends on activity levels, age, muscle mass, goals and health.

Running the London Marathon is pretty impressive in itself.

But Sheila Grant’s marathon story is incredible. Not only was the 2016 London Marathon her first time running the race, but she also managed to cross the finish line with a fractured ankle.

Sheila, a professional dancer and actress, had wanted to run the marathon for years, and always hoped that she’d be able to one day run it on behalf of a charity.

Then in 2015 her 91-year-old grandma was re-diagnosed with breast cancer. Sheila knew it was the right time… Read the full story

My Grandma died on Easter Sunday this year.

It was a quick death after a protracted battle, which the cancer eventually won.

And as the family gathered, they shared stories about the clever, talented, glamorous woman she had been.

Every family has its lore.

I knew about the navy, full-skirted dress Grandma wore when she first met my Grandad and kicked off a whirlwind romance in the late ’50s.

I’d heard about her childhood in Dorset, the outdoor toilet and the daily walk along miles of country roads to the nearest school.

But as I listened to the tales, I realised there was so much I… Read the full story

A 16-year-old boy has just walked 111 miles with his brother on his back to inspire people to embrace anyone with a disability.

Hunter Gandee carried his little brother Braden, who is 11 and has cerebral palsy, for all but the last half mile of the route through their hometown of Temperance, Michigan.

It was their third and longest walk to date – last year’s walk saw Hunter carry his brother for 57 miles while in 2014 when Hunter was 14, they completed 40 miles.

The walk came as part of the Cerebral Palsy Swagger, an event held annually to raise awareness of cerebral palsy – though Hunter says they wanted to walk not just for people with cerebral palsy, but ‘all disabilities’.

The brothers walked for five days with pit stops, leaving on 20 April and arriving at the steps of Lansing’s Capitol building on 25 April.

Just leave them alone (Picture: Getty)

Snuggles with your dog are one of the finer things in life. No better way to feel the love, right?

We hate to break it to you, but your dog doesn’t feel the same.

It was reported this week (and disputed by thousands of dog owners who disagreed) that hugs are actually pretty stressful for dogs as it takes away their means of escape, making them feel trapped.

All we want is to love them, and maybe we do.

Just a bit too much.

It’s not just dogs. Anyone who has tried to hold a pet only for it to squirm and wriggle its way out of your seemingly loving grip… Read the full story
