Sydenham – nicer than you might think (Picture: Alamy)

Sydenham might not be the most glamorous part of London, but it’s a comfortable blend of leafy and gritty.

It’s near enough to central London to get into town, and close enough to Bromley to get out of the city.

And of course we all have a soft spot in our heart for the place where we spent our key childhood and teenage years. There’s no place like home.

Here are 15 things you only know if you grew up in Sydenham.

1. The roundabout at the top of the High Street is called Cobb’s Corner, even though the shop that… Read the full story

People who were never taught sex education reveal the things they had to learn the hard way

mean-girls-sex-ed

Most of us, hopefully, were given sex-ed lessons when we were younger.

And if you didn’t, you missed out on a whole lot of pointing and giggling at things we totally didn’t understand properly.

You also missed out of things that, at the time, were pretty gross. Full-on videos of people giving birth are not something every 13-year-old wants to see.

But it turns out, people who did miss out on these few vital things in life actually had a harder time than most, as they had to learn the hard way what we were taught through textbooks and video.

And they’re talking about it over on a Reddit thread after one user asked: ‘People who didn’t take sex ed, what was something you had to learn the hard way?

Oh, and if you didn’t realise already – the answers are very NSFW. Be warned.

One poor soul had no idea what masturbation was:

There have been many optical illusions randomly appearing on the internet which have left a number of people puzzled.

Of course, some people are quicker to spot what’s going on in an image than others – but it’s all (meant to be) good fun, really.

The latest illusion to split the internet, however, is a painting of a group of horses – and no one can quite seem to agree on how many horses are actually there.

How many can you see?

One new dad has taken over breastfeeding duties after his fiancée Jennifer Capo had to go back to work.

No, he hasn’t started lactating.

But Florida dad-of-three Chris Allen has come up with an innovative solution, which means he can take over feeding duties, hopefully without baby Destiny being any the wiser.

Chris just cut a ‘discreet’ hole in his vest top (a la Mean Girls’ Regina George) and pushed the baby’s bottle through. ‘Heh, I guess it’s like breastfeeding, right?’ he shrugs in a clip which has now been viewed over three million times on the Breastfeeding Mama… Read the full story

Being vegan – that’s eating a plant-based diet, so no meat, fish, eggs or dairy – is pretty popular right now.

With the likes of Deliciously Ella topping the cookbook charts it’s easy to believe that being vegan means being super healthy all the time.

But if you fancy the occasional processed treat, fear not.

We’ve compiled a list of 15 foods that just happen to be vegan.

They weren’t made with the intention of feeding vegans – they just happen to be that way.

And some of them might surprise you.

1. Turkish delight

Turkish delight is almost always vegan. If you fancy making your own try this recipe.

Most people’s main bug-bear about lipstick, other than it getting on our teeth, is that it doesn’t last as long as we want it to.

Get stuck into the wine, or god-forbid attempt a slice of pizza, and there will be more on the glass or in our stomachs than there will be on our lips.

We have all sought out that perfect long-lasting lipstick, but there are things we can do ourselves to prepare our lips to help our lipsticks last longer. Here is a 5-step tutorial.

Girlfriend knows the way to turn her guy on – some hot and heavy IT chat.

Earlier this week, Imgur user FantasticToast shared snapshots of his girlfriend’s adorably geeky booty calls on Snapchat and now everyone’s a little bit in love with her.

‘My girlfriend thinks that she’s funny,’ the guy wrote before sharing a series of her PC-based puns. Spoiler: she’s pretty funny – in a really nerdy way.

All we know about the couple is that they’ve been together for a few months – and she’s definitely a keeper.

In the first message, she holds up some graphics cards (the… Read the full story

Chinchilla or boyfriend? (Picture: Getty)

Be careful what you wish for.

A woman from Tallahassee, Florida, took to Craigslist after her boyfriend insisted she get rid of her pet chinchilla because he is ‘creepy’ and ‘reminds of him of a rat’.

She immediately went and posted an ad on the site entitled ‘Free to a good home’, sharing a picture of the aforementioned ‘creepy’ chinchilla.

But, it turns out, the boyfriend got a little more than he bargained for.

Because this wasn’t an ad to adopt a chinchilla; the ad was for the boyfriend.

Be prepared. (Picture: Getty)

Jet lag is just a kick in the face when you’re down. You’re already sunburnt, tired, and miserable at the prospect of returning to work and reality. Why must your body conspire against you in days of exhaustion?

You’re sleepy all day, can’t get any rest at night, your head hurts, and you’re experiencing a general sense of fogginess.

Jet lag sucks for many reasons, but it turns out there’s one extra fun side effect we never knew about: jet lag can mess with your periods, too. Ughhh.

The Bank Holiday fun is officially over.

Yes, you’re back at work and on top of that it’s probably raining.

At times like this is can be tempting to just pack your bags and buy a one-way ticket to Barbados.

But before you do that, why not consider looking at these pictures of animals?

They won’t change the weather, they won’t stop you’re boss being a dick and they won’t clear those 2,000 emails that have somehow already appeared, but they may (hopefully) bring a smile to your face.

Here’s 14 animals who sort-of look like they… Read the full story

A bookmark shouldn’t give us brunch cravings. (Picture: Tokyo Kitsch)

This week in ‘weird stuff from Japan we actually really want’: extremely realistic fake food themed bookmarks are now a thing.

Online store Tokyo Kitsch – which specialises in ‘items created with unique Japanese concept’ is now selling snazzy bookmarks that look like you’ve desperately needed to keep track of where you are in a book, looked around, and just stuck a bit of your dinner between the pages in a frenzy – oil stains be damned.

Which is, I think we can all agree, a bit bloody weird. Why would anyone need a bookmark that looks just like a… Read the full story

What’s at the end of the rainbow? Cheese. (Picture: Instagram/justjennrecipes)

Okay. That’s it. I’ve hit my breaking point. Stop it. Stop turning food into rainbows.

Food is already a magical, glorious thing. Bagels were a delight before we started packing them with food colouring. Sushi was a delicious, overpriced treat before we felt the need to make our rice glow purple.

So today we take a stand. Today we say ‘no’ to rainbow mac and cheese, no matter how Instagrammable it may be.

Because yes, it is very Instagrammable. And it’s probably delicious. And as Nerdist’s new recipe proves, it’s not too difficult to make.

We applaud their creativity and… Read the full story

If you still need proof that redheads are red hot (Prince Harry and Jessica Chastain not enough for you, no?), then London photographer Thomas Knights is here to persuade you otherwise.

He’s very persuasive.

Three years ago, Thomas, 32, set out to ‘rebrand the ginger male stereotype’. He wanted to ‘put ginger guys in the spotlight like never seen before. To show them as alpha males…. Sexual….. Confident…. Heroic… as the ULTIMATE MALE.’

He snapped 40 strapping red-headed Americans for his first solo photo exhibition, called Red Hot,… Read the full story

What’s cuter than a little black and white cat?

Nope, not two little black and white cats. Although that is pretty damn adorable. The cutest little black and white cat we’ve ever seen has to be Zoë, the cat with a heart on her chest.

She’s basically the cat version of a Care Bear, and it might be too much cuteness for us to handle.

Zoë is a British shorthair cat that lives with her sister Izzy. She’s also known as the fluff, for obvious reasons.

She’s had heart-printed fur since she was a kitten.

And she hasn’t lost any of her cuteness with age.

Domino’s is currently trialling pizza delivery on bus routes. Well, it’s just on one bus route in Blackpool for the moment – somewhat randomly – but it’s a start.

Starting this week, people catching the Catch 22 bus route (to be known henceforth as the pizza bus) from Mereside to Cleveley in Blackpool will be able to place their pizza order on their phone while riding the bus and have it delivered, all hot and melting, to their chosen bus stop.

Apparently, Domino’s head office was inspired by their successful pepperoni pizza delivery to DJ Artwork while… Read the full story

Body image isn’t just a women’s issue. (Picture: Getty)

The body-positive movement is a wonderful thing. We love seeing plus-size models appearing in lingerie and clothing campaigns. We’re all about people sharing unedited, unposed Instagram photos.

But in all the excitement, body-positivity has left some people feeling, well, left out.

We’re talking about men.

There’s still a reluctance to accept that body image and self-esteem are issues men are dealing with, too. And as a result, the same positive movement hasn’t quite expanded to the world of men’s fashion and media.

We’re still seeing super-toned, muscly guys in men’s advertising. There hasn’t been a shift towards articles telling men they should love… Read the full story
