Someone actually worked out how to deep fry water

There are many arguments for and against staying in the EU being bandied about at the moment, but one Twitter user may have come up with perhaps the most persuasive reason yet for voting to remain.

Certainly if you’re a fan of chocolate treats, fluffy and light, anyway.

Earlier this week, Ben Walker shared a picture of what appeared to be a packet of Milky Way Magic Stars with a very worrying caveat at the bottom reading: ‘Product should not be sold outside of the EU.

He captioned it: ‘Reason number 183270 for staying in the EU.’

The English language is a beautiful thing – well, most of the time anyway.

And while we all must accept that vocabulary evolves over time and new words drift in to regular use, there are some that need cast into the fires of English hell.

We put the question to social media – which words need to be completely banned? Here are the 18 that we really wish people would be arrested for using.

1. Banter or Bants. Basically a way the office or class joker excuses their own banal statements – anyone who claims to have ‘bants’ tends to be insufferable, with very… Read the full story

It’s set to be a bumper year for the Great British seaside.

A new study has found that over two-thirds of Britons are taking a staycation break this year – with over half of us (58%) planning to holiday by the coast this summer.

And Cornwall, with its stunning coastline and beautiful sandy beaches, is the top destination, narrowly beating neighbours Devon.

Travelodge’s annual holiday index report today crowned Cornwall the UK’s top holiday spot for the second year running.

Drooling bits of chewed grass and smelling of fresh cow pat, this might not be your typical adorable animal.

But for World Milk Day we’re bypassing the cute kitten and puppy pictures and giving the humble cow a post all to itself.

What does a sex worker look like? One gallery exhibition is showing that there is no definitive answer – and breaking down any stereotypes you may be holding on to in the process.

This June, New York’s Daniel Cooney Fine Art Gallery will host ‘Scarlett Muse’, a collection of photos exploring photographers’ ongoing love for capturing images of sex workers.

Daniel Cooney told metro.co.uk that he was inspired to curate the exhibition after having two separate shows at his gallery exploring the theme, one by Scot Sothern and the second by Benjamin Fredrickson.

‘Scot’s images are of 1980’s Los Angeles street walkers in black and white,’… Read the full story

This may be the most Waitrose thing to ever happen.

The supermarket has been roundly mocked after providing tasting notes for Carlsberg Special Brew. You know, the super-strength lager also sometimes known as gut rot and popular with people who like to hang out in parks.

Twitter user Martin O’Leary sparked widespread amusement after he shared a photo of the ‘tasting notes’ which read: ‘Stronger lager with a cognac flavour. Full bodied fruity tasting with a good clean bitterness.’

He captioned it ‘Peak Waitrose’.

Most of our lives, we rush around, desperate to get from one place to the next, without really worrying about where we are right now.

The same thing goes for holidays.

We bemoan the flights, constantly counting down the hours till we get there, and stock up on magazines, books and TV series to make our journey a little more tolerable.

Well, what if the journey could be part of the fun?

When I was offered a road trip driving through France and Italy in a Ford Mondeo Vignale I envisaged gorgeous landscapes, traditional meals and a taste of the ‘real’ France.

Finding the exercise that’s right for you can turn you from an exercise-hating couch potato into an insufferably eager campaigner for your exercise of choice.

Sure, you’re more irritating now, but at least you’re healthier.

If you still haven’t found you perfect exercise, here are 12 reasons why you should give Pilates a go.

1. It teaches you strength and balance

There’s a reason Joseph Pilates used to call his method ‘contrology‘ – Pilates is all about learning to control your body through precise movements, so strength and balance is key.

2. It’s good for your back

Welcome to the London property market.

The good news? This two-bed flat, currently available to rent for £375 a week (£1,625 a month) is located within easy reach of Brixton’s trendy bars and restaurants and offers ‘generously proportioned rooms’.

The not-so-great news? There are no actual windows.

We don’t know if you can call it daylight robbery when there’s not really much in the way of daylight, but it certainly sums up the London rental market at the moment.

10 things you’ll understand if you’re a middle child

You would think being the middle child makes you the meat in the metaphorical family sandwich.

But no, you’re more like the lettuce – the bit that technically should be there but no one knows why and no one really cares for it.

Therefore, my fellow salad children (wear that name with pride!), this article is just for you. Don’t worry, it isn’t just a repurposed article that we first wrote for you older siblings.

Being the middle child is the worst because…

1. You don’t even have any role models from famous families. Michael Jackson was the youngest and James Franco is clearly the more famous of the Franco clan.

2. Older sibling being mean to you =… Read the full story

Important. (Picture: IfWeWereRoommates.com)

Finding someone to live with is tough.

Your potential new roommate could turn out to be crazy. They might think you’re weird for spending time in your room. You might disagree on standards of cleanliness, or whether or not it’s reasonable to get a puppy. And that’s before you get into the rent situation. Ugh.

And posting endless ads on sparerooms, bigging up your washing up skills and respect for others, is a load of effort.

So we bow down to the genius of this guy, who launched a campaign to find a new roommate – one that covers all the most important requirements of living with someone.

Your man bun is the reason you’re still single

It started out as just another appendage. But soon, it became your life force. It became who you are. The bigger, the better. And you were willing to spend money on whatever oils and ointments it required to ensure it stayed strong and healthy.

We are, of course, talking about the humble man bun.

It took over the world in 2014. Women of the world swooned over Jared Leto’s lustrous locks. But somewhere along the way, things went horribly wrong.

Men began to think that ANYONE could rock a man bun and be as attractive as Jared Leto. They believed they were capable… Read the full story

Birds Eye create world's most expensive fish finger sandwich to celebrate Queen's 90th
Ooh, gold fish fingers (Picture: Rex/Birds Eye)

£187 for a fish finger sandwich? No, we’re not talking about the latest East London food pop-up; Bird’s Eye have just decided to make the Queen the world’s poshest fish finger sandwich for her birthday.

So how do you make a fish finger butty fit for the Queen’s 90th birthday? You use artisan bread (of course), toss in a few blanched asparagus spears, top with edible violets and smother your fish fingers in gold leaf.

We’re only eating fish fingers if they’re covered in gold from now on, just FYI.

A stitch in time saves nine, as the saying goes. And it does an awful lot more besides too.

Another craft that has made a serious comeback, the art of sewing has benefits too many to count. Despite that, I have attempted to do it anyway.

Here are 15 reasons people who know their way around a needle and thread have got life all sewn up…

1. Sew unique

Whatever you make it will be a one off. Different patterns, countless fabrics and your own handmade touches – there’s nothing quite like it.

2. Sew relaxing

Following a pattern or going freestyle, with every stitch you feel your stresses subside.

People reveal the hilarious realities of getting old – and we can all relate

The one thing we all have in common is that we are all getting older – it’s a process that we can’t escape and we can either cry about it or laugh about it.

A new Twitter trend is seeking to do the latter and the responses to #GettingOldIn4Words are pretty spot on. Social media users are summing up the process of ageing in ways in which we can all relate – from noticing changes in our bodies to realising we are behaving like pensioners.

Here are some of the most real summaries of getting older:

Why the #TweetYourPeriod trend is so important

Let’s talk about it. (Picture: Getty)

Menstruation is something that’s been happening since the dawn of time.

So why does it still feel so weird to discuss it in public? Why do we still need to hide our tampons up our sleeves to nip to the bathroom?

Probably because when we do openly talk about periods, we’re shamed. We’re told periods are ‘gross’, that mentioning we’re on the rag is TMI, that period sex is ‘disgusting’.

That needs to change.

The #TweetYourPeriod trend is taking steps to make that happen. People are tweeting out updates on their periods – in the same vein as that #LiveTweetYourPeriod trend from last year – to break down the stigma and position periods as something… Read the full story

Ramadan is just a few days away – and this year coincides with the summer exam period and the summer solstice.

This year Muslims around the world are going to have the longest fasting hours (due to the solstice) in the 33-year cycle as well as schoolchildren’s GCSE and A-Level exams falling in the same period.

That’s because Ramadan 2016 will start on June 6, 2016 and run until 5 July, 2016

Why is Ramadan important?

Ramadan is the holy month when Allah gave the Koran to the Prophet Muhammad.
