There’s no harm in saying please and thank you (Picture: Ben John/Twitter)

Earlier this week, everyone fell for 86-year-old nan May Ashworth and her elegant manners.

Her grandson, 25-year-old Ben John from Wigan, had stumbled across one of May’s recent Google searches on her open laptop and he couldn’t resist sharing a screenshot on Twitter.

It was possibly the most polite search request Google has ever received.

May had been looking for a translation of the Roman numerals MCMXCVIII, so she had written to Google: ‘Please translate these roman numerals mcmxcviii thank you’.

In his tweet, Ben wrote: ‘Omg opened my Nan’s laptop and when she’s googled something she’s put ‘please’ and ‘thank you’. I can’t.’

Back in 1996, 19-year-old Redditor tank_monkey (real name Rob) was finishing basic training in the US army when he received a letter from his little brother.

Five-year-old Logan was clearly worried about his big brother going off to fight, so he put pen to paper (in between games on his new Nintendo).

The little boy’s heartfelt, if somewhat blunt, note meant a lot to Rob, who kept it with him throughout his three deployments.

Almost twenty years later, when Logan himself was finishing up basic training, he received a familiar looking envelope. He opened it up and… Read the full story

A mother-of-two was left crying into a napkin in her local cafe after a complete stranger moved her to tears.

Pam De Almeida had been sat in the cafe with her two daughters, one of whom is named Sophia, who was born with Down’s syndrome.

As she sat with her girls, Pam watched as two women peered over to her family, to get a closer look at Sophia, completely oblivious of the fact Pam was staring right back.

‘Today it bothered me. It really bothered me,’ wrote Pam in a post to her Facebook blogging page, Slice of Life.

Soon after, a man approached Pam. She assumed the worst – but when… Read the full story

When we think of doughnuts, ‘refreshing’ and ‘juicy’ aren’t usually the words to come to mind.

Doughnuts are sticky. Sickly. Squishy. They are glorious as they are, and that is why we love them.

But Krispy Kreme Japan is not prepared to settle for glorious. They want to make doughnuts that have never been made before: doughnuts flavoured with watermelon and lemon.

As part of their snazzy new summer range – which also features a doughnut ice cream sandwich – Krispy Kreme Japan has introduced two new magical doughnuts.

As someone who writes a lot about sexual wellbeing I often get invited to what can only be described as unusual events.

One of the most fun is ETO, which is an annual trade show for the adult industry held at Birmingham’s NEC arena. It’s always good for a giggle and a catch up with old friends, not to mention a bit of eyebrow-raising at the new products on the market.

Here are some of the things that I found on my recent visit. Prepare to be amazed (and possibly to have your eyes water a bit)…

Warning: this is absolutely terrifying. It may make you wake up at night in a cold sweat. Also, there is video.

This is the terrifying tale of how 24-year-old Thai man Attanai Thaiyuanwong came home last weekend to find a monster lizard at the door. When stood on its back legs, the lizard looked to be the same size as a small human.

Attanai’s visitor was a giant monitor lizard. It appeared to be staking out the house in Samut Prakarn, south of Bangkok.

Rather than get the hell out of there, he decided to photograph it and put it on Facebook.

Can we just note here that there appears to be a white… Read the full story

Bumble has teamed up with Spotify so you can judge potential dates on their taste in music

There are plenty of ultimately meaningless things you can use to judge and rule out potential partners.

Their inability to use chopsticks, for example. Their refusal to admit that The Hills is a truly enjoyable show. Their obnoxiously loud chewing.

Judging is a key part of dating. It’s fun.

So it makes total sense that Bumble has teamed up with Spotify to help us all along on our path of superficial judgement and ultimate loneliness.

Happy Sussex Day!

What’s that? Well, it’s a celebration of all things Sussex every year on June 16.

This day in June was chosen because it is also the feast day of the patron saint of Sussex, St Richard of Chichester.

Chichester is just one of the many lovely places in the county.

From the bright lights of Brighton to the Bognor Regis Butlin’s, it understandably has a massive fan base.

I mean what’s not to like about fish and chips, beer, and beautiful coastline?

Here’s 12 reasons to love Sussex.

Do you have a memory you never want to forget?

In a captivating video that’ll reduce you to tears, Cut Video asked six people, aged 49 to 75, who have been recently diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease, about some of their memories.

While most were able to remember some of their very first memories, at ages as early as 2 or 3, some struggled to remember where they had gone or what they had done that morning.

This is why you get so grumpy on planes

You’re enraged by the loud breathing of the passenger sitting next to you. You can’t TAKE another announcement interrupting your very important movie-watching time. This orange juice is rubbish and you’re deeply frustrated.

Why does sitting on a plane turn you into a tetchy, grumpy version of your former self?

According to new research published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, it’s all down to one thing: first-class seats.

Research has found that air rage incidents are almost four times… Read the full story

Having a rough day? This will help.

Monsieur Georges is a little pug. He’s adorable. He has his own Instagram account. So far, so much like every other pug on the internet.

But Monsieur Georges is a little different from your average internet famous dog, because his owners, Lucile and Max, are both designers.

They spend their time doodling all kinds of costumes and adventures for their pet, so he can fulfill his dreams of being everything from a unicorn to a ballet dancer.

The results are pretty glorious.

Your pants say so much about you (Picture: Getty)

Feeling a little down in the dumps? Maybe you just need to change your knickers.

Seriously.

Anjel OBryant is Australia’s leading colour-response analyst, who specialises in ‘scientifically based colour response technology’ according to her website.

No idea either, but she claims the colour of your underwear can seriously affect your mood.

‘Every colour vibrates, all at different levels. It doesn’t matter if you can see them or not, it goes through your skin, over your whole body and into your brain,’ she told Australia’s Daily Telegraph.

‘Picking the right colours, particularly when it comes to your underwear, can enhance and even change your life,’ she went on.

Baby sleep training: Follow your instincts not the science

The internet is awash with ’research’ that tells us sleeping training or  NOT sleeping training is BAD for our babies (the research is usually taken from studies of 4 babies, 2 kangaroo cubs and a tadpole so it is definitely accurate) all of which often serves to overwhelm and confuse parents.

Sleep-training was not the right choice for my family but I do not judge people who do it (except for the Leave Baby To Cry Herself To Sleep In The Dark And If She Pukes That’ll Learn Her, people –I totally judge them). But every decision most of us make for our children, we make out of love – so we are all just doing what we… Read the full story

Women answer the question: ‘What about men baffles you most?’

There are a few questions often asked about men, whether fairly or unfairly.

Such as, why were they never taught how to change the bed sheets? Why is it so hard to aim accurately at the toilet seat at night? And do they really know the meaning of ‘don’t touch that food in the fridge, it’s mine’?

Some women who are confused by these issues and more are talking about it on Reddit in a thread which asked them what baffles them most about men.

Unsurprisingly, many of the queries are pretty funny – and they answer a few burning questions too.

This girl’s question was incredibly serious

Someone answered: ‘Depends. If i’m just laying there under the water then yes. It does not really ‘float’ but rather just sort of moves unrestricted.

That’s what some people have been given the option of doing.

Funny man and prankster Jeff Wysaski created a ‘Father’s Day Blowout’ leaflet and posted them through neighbours’ letter boxes to give them a break from the usual advertisements they receive.

In case you missed it, Junipalooza returned to London this past weekend.

For two magical days, Tobacco Dock turned into a celebration of gin-based delight, with masterclasses, talks, the chance to meet gin experts, and plenty of samples of the good stuff.

We popped down on the second day of excitement, and are now official gin-thusiasts with passionate opinions on juniper, ice amounts, and slices of lime. We also drank a LOT of gin.

Here’s all the stuff we learned.
