This is how lipsticks are made and it’s mesmerising

The vast majority of us own way too many lipsticks – the majority of which end up in a molten mess at the bottom of our handbags, or as little stumps.

Apparently, we use up to 9lbs of lipstick over the course of our lifetimes.

And 30% of our lipsticks end up in our stomachs. So, with that troubling fact, it might be worth knowing how they’re actually made.

giphy

Fortunately, Rachel Zoe’s documentary series, The Zoe Report, has released a one minute video showing exactly that.

And apparently, there are just five steps to creating the perfect lipstick.

First, a vegetable base is mixed with pigment, which is then… Read the full story

Ooh, look at you, being all healthy with your stack of carrot sticks and hummus for your 3pm snack cravings. You resisted the cake. You didn’t resort to a massive bar of Galaxy. You’re feeling smug.

We’re sorry. We’re about to ruin that smugness.

Turns out hummus isn’t quite the super-healthy option we all think it is.

A new report by Consensus Action on Salt and Health (sounds serious, no?) found that hummus often contains a LOAD of salt. As much salt as four packets of ready salted crisps, in fact.

First we had the coffee cone and now, to celebrate Yorkshire Day, we’ve got the Yorkshire pudding cone.

An award-winning New Zealand ice cream chef, Giapo, has fused Sicilian influence with British tradition for his new creation.

To repeat, that’s a Yorkshire pudding ice cream cone.

giphy

The Yorkshire pudding cone will come in eight different flavours, using New Zealand dairy and locally-produced ingredients.

So, they’re going to have ‘British inspired’ flavours like Crème Anglaise and Rhubarb (a posh rhubarb and cream, basically).

And they’ll be sharing a menu with more exotic, local offerings like Samoan Caramel and ‘Hokey Pokey’ (honeycomb to you and I).

On point. (Picture: Reddit/burritobondage)

The best relationships are those in which you can share your passions without judgement. When you can talk about the things that make you happy, and they’ll listen (or join in).

This right here is an example of a great relationship.

Redditor burritobondage loves makeup. She loves makeup so much that she’s a regular contributor to the Makeup Addiction subreddit.

She’s also blessed with an excellent boyfriend – a boyfriend who loves her enough to patiently sit still and partake in her makeup obsession.

Thank you

We all just want to be liked. Whether it’s on Instagram or in actual real life.

And, according to a new study, it’s not always the grand gestures that get you noticed. In fact, just going out of your way to say ‘thank you’ now and again can massively influence someone’s opinion of you.

A recent study by the University of New South Wales found that going out of your way to say ‘thank you’ makes people see you as a warmer person and want to be your friend.

For the small study, students were paired with older mentors on a project. Afterwards, half the students sent ‘thank you’ notes to their mentors.

Those who wrote to express their gratitude were seen as having greater ‘interpersonal warmth’ than those who didn’t. Plus, their mentors were more likely to exchange contact information with them.

Last year, it seemed like every adult in the country was going around with colouring books and a pack of ultra-blend pencils.

And now, the author of Fight Club has launched his own disturbing version.

In true Chuck Palahniuk-style, ‘Bait: Off-Color Stories for You to Color‘ is being marketed as ‘not for the faint hearted’.

No sweat. (Picture: Deidre Spain/metro.co.uk)

Now is the summer of our discomfort. A time for chub rub, uncomfortably hot tube rides, frizzy hair sticking to our faces. And, for those who are well-endowed in the chest area, underboob sweat.

A joy of sweat patches and slick skin and the need for bras to be thrown in the laundry basket at the end of every day. Underboob sweat is a bloody serious issue, and just another addition to the long, long list of annoying shit women have to put up with.

But thankfully, underboob sweat is not something that has to ruin your day,… Read the full story

But it turns out that maybe our body issues or sensitivities might not be solely down to us and our experiences.

Get up. (Picture: metro.co.uk/Myles Goode)

We all know that sitting is slowly killing us, we need to start actually exercising, and we’re all doing a terrible job of looking after our health.

But we like to be efficient. We don’t want to do any more exercise than is strictly necessary. You know, so we have ample time for essential TV-watching and lounging in bed after work. Right?

So we’re both pleased and deeply saddened by a new study published in the Lancet, which reveals exactly how much exercise you need depending on how much time you spend sitting down.

If there’s one thing you’d think we’d all have learned from years of surfing the web, it’s not to believe everything you see.

But apparently, this hasn’t quite sunk in yet for some people, who have been wonderfully fooled by a couple of girls who led them to believe that one of them had been left bald after mistaking hair removal cream for shampoo.

Kayla Connors tweeted a picture of her sister looking very miserable after being left with a bald head under the caption: ‘My sister thought Nair was shampoo.’

The picture received almost 70,000 likes and retweets – and people felt seriously bad for Kayla’s sister.
