Yorkshire is well known for a range of brilliant things – puddings, terriers, cricket, Sean Bean – but there is plenty more to God’s own county than that.

At nearly 12,000sq km and with well over five million people living there, the biggest county in the UK has more to offer than you might have thought.

It’s not necessarily the first place you would consider for a week’s holiday, but there is plenty more to see and do in Yorkshire than on a boring beach break in Spain or a cheesy romantic trip… Read the full story

More tea officer?

Two-year-old Bexley Norvel wanted to do something really special to thank police officer Patrick Ray on the anniversary of the day he saved her life.

So, she put on her best frock and pearls and threw an exclusive tea party for two.

On July 26, 2015, Corporal Ray came to Bexley’s aid at her home in Rowlett, Texas, after the little girl choked on a coin and stopped breathing. ‘I could not believe how fast he got here,’ mum Tammy says of the response to her desperate 911 call.

I live in a relatively small town, so every now and again I save my sanity by escaping to the city.

I always try to make the most of my time by packing in as many activities as possible, which used to mean lugging a suitcase full of washbags, makeup and clothing options.

Fine if I’m taking the car, but as I often use the train, I’ve learnt the hard way that minimalism is the way to go.

I can now do a three-day break with nothing but a handbag and a tote – here’s how.

Yorkshire Day?

Yuck.

Supposedly every August 1 we’re supposed to celebrate this ‘historic’ English county.

But why should anyone bother?

After all, there’s all these reasons it’s the absolute worst.

1. It’s grim up north

Sometimes in life, a Colin the Caterpillar cake just doesn’t cut it.

Sometimes you just need something more. More calories. More flavour. More layers. More taste.

Well one guy has developed an actual fast food cake to satisfy all of your cravings.

giphy

Milton Lai from Syndey, has even come up with some rules for other chefs to follow in order to re-create his work of art and to keep it ‘authentic’.

These include the cake being made entirely out of food from fast food outlets – Domino’s, McDonald’s and KFC.

Apparently our skin can be a different age to our biological one – despite the thousands of creams and potions on the high street and in Harley Street claiming to give us younger looking skin.

And we all know that certain things like smoking and excessive tanning can speed up the aging process.

According to leading industry expert Dr Alexis Abramson, our skin starts to change visually from the age of 45, losing elasticity and becoming more leathery.

But how do you tell whether your skin age matches your actual age?

Happy Birthday! (Picture: Getty)

Unless you’re massively worried about ageing, most of us usually look forward to a birthday.

Presents, cake, a lie-in, a night out – however you want to celebrate it’s your special day.

But those of us lucky enough to have entered the world during August surely have the best birthdays of all?

1. You’ll have been one of the youngest in your year at school, meaning all those mates you’ve been hanging out with since forever are all getting older before you. You’re still playing cute catch up on the big numbers.

2. It’s probably sunny on your big day, so you can plan for beer gardens and outdoor parties.

3. But even if it’s not… Read the full story

Next month, Elle UK will be featuring a transgender model as its cover girl for the first time in its 31 year old history.

Hari Nef, 23, will be joining the magazine’s other ‘icons of change’ – chosen because they’ve all rejected society’s conventions of gender, success and sexuality.

The model, actress and trans activist will feature in September’s magazine – traditionally thought of as the most important edition in the fashion magazine calendar.

Gap has been accused of everyday sexism after sharing the promotional shots for its new toddler range online.

In one image, a little boy is seen modelling grey tracksuit bottoms and a navy Einstein T-shirt under the strapline: ‘The Little Scholar: Your future starts here’.

Contrast this with the picture of a little girl in a cream jumper and black bottoms, with the headline: ‘The Social Butterfly: Chambray shirts + logo sweaters are the talk of the playground’.

The new ad campaign, which currently appears on the Gap UK website, was spotted by PsychScientists Andrew and Sabrina, who called them out for ‘everyday sexism’.

Facebook and Instagram have some pretty odd rules when it comes to what they delete or leave up online.

They remove nipple pics, for example – even if they’re photos of breastfeeding babies. And yet on Instagram at least, there’s plenty of porn under hashtags like #vegan or #pizza.

And now, apparently, Facebook has deleted blogger Constance Hall’s ‘mumbody’ selfie.

‘Australian blogger, freedom fighter and queen lover,’ Constance is renowned for her regular posts on being a wife and a mother, as well as womanhood in general.

Last week, she posted a status to her 820,000+ following, saying that one of her previous photographs had been taken down by the social media site.

Pretty, not that practical (Picture: Gumtree)

A new mum is advertising a slightly impractical antique bassinet on Gumtree, after realising motherhood was not the ‘holy, other worldly experience,’ she thought it would be.

Baby not included. As far as we know.

The mum from Munday Way, western Australia, believes the 100+ year-old bassinet ‘was designed in a time when babies were men, and those man-babies didn’t need no comfy, flat, safe cradles to sleep in. Co-sleeping? Pffttt… Put a blanket in a cauldron and those man-babies will have water boiling for your morning cuppa when you get up to feed them.’

She goes on to explain that she bought it ‘in a whimsical moment in… Read the full story

Today is supposed to be about female friendship (Picture: Getty)

The internet has spoken – today is National Girlfriend Day.

It’s trending on Twitter and already dividing opinions.

It began as an American annual celebration of female friendship, technically called National Girlfriends Day.

But the ‘s’ has been dropped and now nobody really knows if it’s about boyfriends or girlfriends having to buy their partners flowers, women celebrating sisterhood or what.

Anyway, despite it being a very important annual event, amazingly not everyone on Twitter appears to be on board.

Here’s 10 top comments from people tweeting what we’re thinking on National Girlfriend Day.

1. Because we are all just lonely tuberous roots on this bleak and pointless planet

Aldi sold 1.5 million of its Wagyu beef burger two-packs last year.

In June, the supermarket sold out of its prime cuts of Wagyu ribeye steak (released for Father’s Day) in a matter of days.

So, it’s fair to say that restocks of its luxury – and generous-sized – Wagyu beef patties are going to be pretty popular.

They go on sale from this Thursday, August 4. So, we know where you’ll all be going after work.

According to Aldi, the beef comes from cattle that are bred and grass-fed on open New Zealand pastures.

How fake are you? Quiz

Being the youngest can have its downsides. There are hardly any baby photos of you. You were forced to wear hand-me-downs ’till you were 15. And your older brothers probably bullied the crap out of you until they left for uni.

But all of this might actually have paid off, because it now turns out that you’re more likely to become the millionaire entrepreneur of the family.

According to academics at Birmingham and Reading universities, the youngest children of non-entrepreneurial families are more likely to become risk-taking business people later in life.

So it’s the start of World Breastfeeding Week (Monday, August 1- Sunday, August 7).

The World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (Waba) is promoting the week.

They’re hoping to raise awareness of links between ‎breastfeeding‬ and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development.

These are a set of suggestions, set out by the UN, on how best to end poverty, fight inequality and injustice, and tackle climate change by 2030.

For Breastfeeding Week 2016, Waba is encouraging people to think about how breastfeeding might help us value our wellbeing from the start of life, how to respect each other and care for the world.

Opinions on breastfeeding differ around the world but, as a mum-of-two who has tried boobs and bottles, I… Read the full story

It can be a bit annoying when your well-meaning advice gets thrown back in your face. We guess it’s even more frustrating when you realise you’ve completely ignored your own advice.

Introducing Steven Davidson, 30, from Kalgoorlie, Western Australia.

Since leaving his 20s behind, Steven has noticed his hangovers are getting longer and more painful as every year goes by.

To lessen the pain, he decided to leave a polite note for his drunk self, advising him to drink a bottle of water before bed. ‘Hangover Steve will thank you,’ he wrote to his future self.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t legislated for drunk, angry Steve.

A friend shared drunk Steve’s brilliant –… Read the full story

When I set myself the challenge of competing in a fitness bikini competition 20 weeks ago, never did I think I would actually go and win.

At 10st I was way off peak condition. I was well aware of bikini fitness athletes, and while I admired them, I never thought I could be one.

But a friend of mine, Vicky Hadley, had signed up to compete in the Miss Galaxy Universe European Championships 2016 and asked me to join her – and I decided to go for it.
