There’s a reason you feel so rubbish after fish and chip night. (Picture: Getty)

You stayed in last night. You skipped the work drinks and just ordered in pizza instead. You were very well-behaved, didn’t do any shots, and didn’t end the night by throwing up on your shoes.

So why are you being punished with a pounding headache and intense nausea this morning? Why are you hungover when you haven’t had anything to drink?

It’s all down to the copious amounts of junk food you ate the evening before.

See, the food hangover is a real thing. Really. It’s not just something you made up the last time you felt rubbish.

Megan says the photo editing apps are sick and manipulative (Picture: Megan Jayne Crabbe/Instagram)

Megan Jayne Crabbe, 23, from Essex, is a recovered anorexic. Or, as she puts it, ‘a recovered self-loather’.

After years of battling the eating disorder, she set up her website bodyposipanda.com in an attempt to ‘shatter’ the ‘not good enough’ mentality she feels has been drummed into women about their bodies.

She regularly speaks out about the unattainable beauty standards women are expected to aspire to. And, through her Instagram page, where she has 273,000 followers, she tries to dispel the myths about those ‘perfect’ images you see in ads and, increasingly, on social media.

She’s particularly critical of photo-editing apps… Read the full story

Model, wellness writer, and activist Summer Rayne Oakes has a bit of an obsession with plants.

Actually, it’s more than that. She doesn’t just feel a deep satisfaction looking at pictures of other people’s cacti on Instagram, like the rest of us. She doesn’t treat herself to the occasional potted bush.

Summer Rayne Oakes loves plants so much, she currently has around 500 in her flat.

Yup. That’s a lot of watering.

‘I nearly doubled my plant collection in three years time,’ Summer told metro.co.uk.

Happy National Burger Day! If you didn’t know, August 25 is National Burger Day, a day in which people celebrate all the joy burgers bring.

Enter the hamburger cupcake. It’s a cupcake. It looks like a burger. You can’t go wrong.

Here’s how to make your own, with a recipe from Renshaw Baking.

Whether we are customer service veterans or we dipped our toes into the world of retail, a huge number of us know just how frustrating working in a shop can be.

It’s not JUST the customers either – the whole job can just be an infuriating ordeal. It’s not always bad – and often it can be fulfilling to put a full day of graft in serving the every bizarre need of the public – but here are 27 things that never fail to make retail workers see red.

When I was first diagnosed with Bipolar disorder, I was confused as to what it meant.

I knew the basics, as I’m sure most others do – it’s a mood disorder categorised by highs and lows. Mainly extreme highs and lows.

Everyone's loving this mum and daughter conversation about their cat's nightly routine

These highs or lows can last for months at a time and can go undetected.

Often, these highs are classed as ‘manic’ episodes. And this is what confused me most.

Kari is a woman who sometimes posts things on the internet. So of course, she puts up with a lot of sexist comments and general nonsense. As most women on the internet have to do. *Sigh*.

But her most recent interaction with a random guy on the internet was particularly ridiculous.

Kari was engaging in some casual political debate with a friend on Facebook. As you do.

Suddenly, a guy named Nick decided to chip in with his opinions. Not an opinion on politics, or a contribution to the debate, but his rating of how Kari presented her argument.

Bake Off finally returned to our screens with a bang last night, weighing into the age-old Jaffa Cake debate – are they cakes or biscuits?

Given that it was cake week, it was a strong first week statement from GBBO, with Mary, Paul and co. putting their combined weight behind #TeamCake.

Obviously, it provoked A LOT of discussion on Twitter (and don’t even get us started on Paul dunking his in a cup of tea, eliciting a hard stare and stern rebuke from Bezza – ‘we don’t do that in the South you know’).

Anyway, quite a few people were just relieved to finally… Read the full story

Meet Thor. No, not the Chris Hemsworth one. The cat.

Thor is a Bengal cat that’s racked up more than 29,000 followers on Instagram in under year. And just like all those other super famous Instagram stars, it’s all because he’s naturally stunning. Life is unfair.

As a Bengal, Thor has markings that make him look like a little tiger or leopard, with stripes on his back and spots on his tummy. He also has green eyes that stare into your soul.

Apparently Thor can be a little demanding.

A mum from Exmouth has made an appeal for people to send birthday cards to her son, who has autism, after she found him writing out his own.

Karen Jones, 49, posted a message on the Exmouth Community Facebook page earlier this month, explaining that her son Ollie was about to turn 15 (this Saturday, August 27) and had recently told her he loves opening cards – to the extent that she had found him making a couple for himself.

GCSE results day is one of the biggest days in the life of a teenager – and it’s no small thing for the teachers that have been preparing them for it either. Like students, teachers will have sleepless nights, growing anxiety and the day will become a complete blur.

But it’s part of the job and despite their worries for how the students they care for will cope on a day of such pressure, educators hold it together and aim to be the pillars of strength for excited, stressed and unsure students looking to the future.

So long, oysters. (Picture: Getty)

Put down your morning glass of champagne. Halt conversations about your monthly trip to the south of France. We have some truly awful news.

The oysters you know, love, and enjoy at every celebratory meal, could soon be inedible.

We don’t just mean disgusting, or of a slightly lower quality than usual. We literally won;t be able to eat them.

Because soon, all our oysters may end up becoming poisonous – and it’s all thanks to global warming.

If you’re not a fan of over the top proposals, look away now. Because, as Josh himself admits, he’s prone to over the top gestures.

Josh Schmitz and Danielle Roesch from Chicago started dating in October 2014. By August the following year, Josh had decided he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her.

But, he wasn’t just going to go down on one knee like any old schmuck. He wanted to make his proposal really special. So, he stretched it out over 365 days.
