As a child summer seemed to be an endless six weeks of freedom, fun and continuous sunshine.

As an adult it’s days of boiling to death on public transport, interspersed with days of complaining about how cold it is, and it’s all over in what feels like three weeks.

So once the August bank holiday approaches – kindly reminding us that summer is over and we need to knuckle down again – we all go into a bit of a panic.

Here are the 13 signs that summer is ending.

The weather gets hot again

It was crap for almost all of the month, but you can guarantee it’ll get… Read the full story

Teachers will know that no matter how ‘fun’ a school trip may sound, the reality is almost always a day spent constantly on edge.

The smell of packed lunches fills the air. You hear yourself say ‘you represent the entire school’ more times than you can count. You’re constantly counting children and begging your class to please, please, not wander off while everyone else is queuing for the Dragon roller coaster.

School trips are not fun, is what we’re saying.

You’re always expecting something to go wrong. And when it does, it’s always gloriously bad.

Puking. Lost children. Poo.

The ways a school trip can become dreadful are varied and wonderful.

not crying

I didn’t expect to be tearing up over a picture of a tiny rodent today.

But it’s happening. And I’m just going to have to accept it. This is my life now: crying over hamsters at 10am on a Saturday.

Redditor GeorgeOnee is responsible for the emotional wreckage, having shared a photo of a little hamster with a broken arm on Imgur.

We do not know much about this hamster. We do not know its name. We do not know how we broke its arm. We do not know which kind-hearted vet made this hamster a teeny tiny cast.

We just know that we cannot handle this right now.

If you’re feeling a little sensitive today, be warned. This will probably make you tear up a bit.

An Imgur user has shared a series of Snapchats, showing a woman giving the family dog one last day of treats and love before she was put down.

‘For about two months Hannah has been having seizures,’ wrote the woman. ‘They were small and nothing to worry about, but they gradually got worse.

‘Hannah was on a couple of meds, one for her kidneys and another for the pain she had in her elbows and her hips.

A bra company is making their male staff understand what it is like to live with E-Cup breasts, by asking them to wear weights of 2.2-3.5lbs (the estimated weight of E-cup breasts) around their necks.

PrimaDonna CEO Ignance Van Doorselaere has asked that his male staff wear the weights so that they can get a better feel for the product they are designing, and so that they ‘realize what an E-cup feels like’, describing it as the only way to give them a proper idea as to what it is like to have large breasts.

Van said: ‘People often come to me and say: ‘It must be so much fun to work in… Read the full story

We get it. When you’re riding the crimson wave, hitting the gym is often the last thing you want to do.

But you know it’s good for you. You know it will help you feel better. So you struggle with your sports bra, lace up your trainers, choose a darker colour for your outfit, and get on with it.

Because you’re tough. You’re a boss. And you’re not going to let a little blood hold you back.

What might hold you back, however, is money, because gyms are expensive and workout classes are overpriced. Damn it.

The majority of the before and after photos and transformation Tuesday photos we see popping up on our Instagram stick to a similar theme.

The person has dedicated themselves to getting fit and healthy. They’re proud of themselves. And they’ve either toned up or lost weight.

There’s nothing wrong with any of this, obviously. Working hard and achieving a goal is absolutely something to be proud of, and it’s great to celebrate how great you feel now you’ve changed your body.

But it’s important to show that a positive transformation doesn’t have to include weight loss. You don’t need to lose… Read the full story

If you’ve spent some time on the foodie side of the internet recently, you’ve probably heard rumblings of a dark, destructive force, rising up against the burger we all know and love.

People – meaning food bloggers, followed by foodies, followed by brands – have been cruelly ripping the soft bread buns off their burgers, and replacing said buns with avocado.

Yes. We’re talking about the avocado burger bun. It’s very pretty. It’s loved by avocado obsessives and healthy food lovers alike. It’s also very controversial.

The moment you admit you have to stop drinking after one cup of coffee, because just one cup makes you wide awake and jittery, you’re bound to get dismissed as a coffee newbie unable to handle the strong stuff.

If you need a coffee on the hour, meanwhile, you’re called a caffeine addict, and people marvel at your steady pulse and lack of hand shaking. You’re tough. Badass. You’re a machine running on coffee.

And then there are the people that just need one cup to run on all day. They are mysterious, magical beings.

The difference in coffee-drinking abilities is weird, when you think about it. It’s the same drink – so why does it make… Read the full story

As a bisexual male living in London in 2016 I honestly suspect I’ve seen it all.

I’ve had dates end in screaming arguments about politics, found out they were married, been invited to orgies and that’s just the things I don’t mind people knowing about.

So whether you’re straight, gay, bi or undecided here are my top 10 tips for acing that first date.

Always drink alcohol

Do you know what cures awkward silences and crippling nerves? Booze!

Now there is a happy medium here. Don’t get hideously drunk and remember your manners.

Still, if the date goes wrong you can always blame it on the booze not yourself.

Don’t eat meals

Why would you force yourself and your potential partner… Read the full story

Whoever said relationship milestones are moments like the first kiss and first sleepover are filthy liars.

Those milestones are natural moments when you’re hitting it off with someone, however the only real relationship milestones that matter are those that there are no cute little signs for.

Who cares about the first kiss, when really it’s all about the first kiss when you had the smelliest breath ever.

I am a bit of a fan of Lion King and have been ever since it first came out in 1994. Now I feel old.

I didn’t really know just how much it had sunk in how all-consuming of my life it had been at one point, until this summer when I went on a safari in South Africa.

As we made our way across the Sabi Sabi private game reserve close to the border with Mozambique, I couldn’t help but quote the film over and over again, much to the delight/annoyance of my travelling companion.

We know the fashion at the VMAs is always pretty wild. Throwback to 1998 when Rose McGowan draped some beaded strands across her butt and thought ‘ya know, I’m done’.

But, this year has our rubbing our eyes and looking at our screens.

We don’t know if it was everyone trying to pay tribute to 90s Britney that made them hunt those power suits out of the back of the wardrobe, or whether the stylists have just run out of ideas and are now running around Target fingering strands of beads and feathers, screaming into the void, but the red white carpet got a little cray-cray.
