In June, Marc Cronin had to have his lower leg amputated after diabetic complications, but he’s not letting it beat him.

Instead, while he was waiting for his prosthetic to be made by the NHS, he built himself a temporary Lego leg.

Marc, 32, from Oldbury in the West Midlands was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in June 2013, but says his doctor believes he might have gone undiagnosed for up to 10 years.

He was put on insulin 18 months ago, which means his diabetes is now well-controlled. But, in 2014, he had his toes amputated and eventually… Read the full story

Celebrate your over-30 body! (Picture: Getty)

There’s nothing like getting an electrocardiogram on your 31st birthday to make you contemplate the state of your aging body.

I never had miscellaneous chest pains in my 20s. If I was in pain in my 20s, it was usually because I’d fallen over or stubbed a toe.

These days my body seems to enjoy indulging in hard-to-place aches. At this precise moment my right hip is strangely stiff, and one of my big toe joints has started playing up so badly that I haven’t been able to wear heels for a year.

After numerous doctor appointments to ascertain the cause of the painful… Read the full story

Oh, I don’t know, but if you’re going to try and troll the younger generation, I’d probably suggest not using a platform they’re infinitely more familiar with to do it from.

And, as the old adage goes, people in glass [overpriced] houses and all that.

Over the weekend, #HowToConfuseAMillennial started trending on Twitter.

It was basically an excuse for Generation X and even some Baby Boomers to throw shade at the generation who came after them.

MG_DUREX_AUBERGINE_COMP

This morning, Durex announced it was launching an ‘exciting’ aubergine-flavoured condom.

Yes, we do see what they’ve done there, given the significance of the aubergine emoji to Millennial sexters – and the fact that a Durex survey last year revealed 84% of 16-25 year olds ‘feel more comfortable talking about sex using emojis’.

But, the problem is, of all the flavours we could have had – bacon, chocolate, did we mention bacon? – aubergine (or eggplant if you’re American and wrong) is not one the world was calling out for.

People were understandably appalled.

Disgusted.

They do say you end up turning into your dog, or perhaps it’s vice versa.

Now we have further proof that people’s pets become a reflection of themselves. And it goes much further than sporting the same hairstyle.

A new survey has revealed that dog owners are more faithful than any other pet owners.

IllicitEncounters.com, a dating website for married people, found that just 10% of over 700 members surveyed owned dogs, making dog owners the most faithful – just like their loyal, loving pups.

When you realise what you’ve done (Picture: histoftech/Twitter)

When you’ve unleashed a 13ft self-inflating Stay Puft marshmallow man in your living room and it just won’t stop growing, who you gonna call?

This is the dilemma author and historian Marie Hicks from Chicago was left with in the early hours of Sunday morning after she decided to get her new Ghostbusters Stay Puft inflatable out of the box, following a long night of book editing.

She had purchased the inflatable for Halloween but needed a bit of a pick-me-up, so decided to get it out early. ‘I’d been editing the proofs for my upcoming book all night, which is tedious and demanding… Read the full story

A Sainsbury's logo is pictured behind shopping trolleys in London, on January 12, 2011. British supermarket chain Sainsbury's said it had enjoyed record Christmas sales, as customers battled snow and freezing temperatures to head to its stores. "This record Christmas was delivered despite challenging weather conditions and our colleagues worked extremely hard to deliver great service to our customers, serving over 24.5 million customers in the seven days up to and including Christmas Eve," the group said in a statement. I have so much sympathy for this guy. It brings back memories of primary school, where I pretended to play recorder in music class for a year (we played as a group; I mimed) and then the teacher said we all had to do a solo performance in assembly the following week.

I dictated a letter to my mum that evening, telling the teacher that I no longer wanted to play the recorder and wanted to dedicate myself to my studies (I was seven). To no avail.

Back in June, Pret launched its ‘little veggie pop up’ in London’s Soho. They converted one of their existing branches into a veggie one-stop-shop, serving veggie and vegan lunches ONLY.

It was supposed to open for one-month-only. It’s still open, due to popular demand.

And Pret today announced that it will stay open – permanently.

‘I can now tell you that we’ve taken the decision to keep it open forever(!)’ CEO Clive Schlee wrote in a blog on the Pret website today.

And they’re not doing it purely for the love of vegans – turns out, the veggie and vegan friendly restaurant is a real money-maker.

Hello, lover. (Picture: Getty)

For years, food science types have agreed that there are only five basic tastes: sweetness, sourness, saltiness, bitterness, and umami.

All flavours are made up of these five tastes, said scientists, and every time we taste something, we’re simply experiencing an interaction of these five things.

But it turns out that there might be a secret sixth taste – and it could explain a lot about our food preferences.

A new study from Oregon State University in Corvallis suggests that ‘starchy’ could be the sixth basic taste.
