No, Halloween hasn’t come early and you’re not witnessing the aftermath of a brutal, woodland massacre.

Pranksters in Melbourne, Australia have dyed a lake red, and it’s left members of the public feeling very confused.

The lake is in Carlton Gardens in the city centre, and while the jokers initially only dyed a small pond with a fountain in (the Hochgurtel Fountain, fountain fans), luckily/unluckily for them, it’s connected to a nearby lake. Which also took on the bloody hue.

Freddy Mercury, the lead singer of "Queen".

What’s the song that always get your toes twitching, fingers tapping and bad vocals going?

Maybe it’s something groovy you hear down the gym.

Or perhaps it’s a dance tune that was always playing at the student bar back in the day.

Whatever your personal choice is, there’s now an official answer.

Only one song gets everyone feeling really bloody happy, according to scientists.

And it is (drum roll): Queen’s Don’t Stop Me Now.

giphy

A study by the University of Missouri has proven that Queen’s 1978 hit is the track guaranteed to bring unadulterated joy to all.

Back in 2013, researchers got people to listen to ‘upbeat’ music over a period of two weeks and found that listening to music – regardless of the genre – tends to make people happier.

Now, neuroscientist Jacob Jolij has come up with a formula for happy songs, by studying 126 songs produced… Read the full story

At some point in our lives – usually when we’re students or running low on cash – we all consider volunteering for a bit of scientific research. Just so we can help out the scientific world, you know?

But usually we’re put off by the prospect of having to take slightly scary sounding drugs, having needles poked into our arms, or feeling under the weather for a good week.

It just doesn’t seem worth it.

This scientific study, however, is one that we definitely want to get involved in.

A group of students at Northumbria University, led by Timothy Eschle, are searching for willing participants for a study into the benefits… Read the full story

Won’t someone please think of the children?!

You might not think it to look at them, buried in their smartphones and blasting their music out from the back of the bus, but kids today have it tough.

Yes, they have a wealth of technology to draw upon to help them through their everyday existences, but it belies the fact that growing up in the 21st century is a daunting proposition.

The 90s, however, as a lot of you will know, were different. It was a purer, more innocent time.

Very, very important chocolate related news: Quality Street has destroyed everything we hold dear.

Just when we recovering from the Mary Berry no longer being a part of Bake Off news, another British institution has fallen apart and broken us in the process.

Quality Street has announced that they are getting rid of Toffee Deluxes from their tubs.

The horror. Oh, the horror.

Just in case you’re not up to date on your toffee categorisation, the Toffee Deluxe is the rectangular chewy toffee in the metallic brown wrapping. It’s one of the oldest sweets on Quality Street, and it is an absolute delight.

Stop everything: Quality Street has killed off the Toffee Deluxe

His most recent project, entitled FAT CATS is a collection of ‘pleasantly plump’ portraits which sit alongside heartwarming and funny stories about the chubby felines.

Why has Pete specialised in chubby cats for this particular project? Well, in his own words: ‘Chubby cats are the cutest cats.’

I realised that larger, chubby cats were somewhat under represented in popular culture in favor of more svelte, slimmer cats,’ he told Metro.co.uk.

When you’re in the military, there are a lot of little parts of family life you miss out on.

Like holidays, for example – Christmas with the family, having a birthday cake at home, or taking the kids trick or treating.

One family has worked out a way to work around the missed bits.

When 15-year-old Olivia Clendennin’s dad, Alby (who goes by Al), found out that he would be deployed to Afghanistan for 100 days, the family decided to surprise him by combining all the holidays he’d miss into two days, celebrated at home before he left.

Over the weekend, Olivia and her family celebrated Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving,… Read the full story

Farewell to hangovers. (Picture: Getty)

It’s one of life’s big questions: why do the things we love cause us pain?

Or, to put it in simpler terms, why the f*** do we have to put up with the horror of hangovers, just for enjoying a few drinks?

Finally, this awful part of life could be about to change.

A professor from Imperial College London says he’s officially created hangover-free alcohol, and is now ready to test it out.

That’s right. We’re talking magical alcohol that gets you tipsy but doesn’t cause hangovers. This is big, people.

Most of us know the irritation of being one size in one store and another in the next.

It’s especially annoying when you want to buy from a new online store, but you have no idea which size to order.

Unfortunately, many of us have been left feeling disheartened and upset after a changing room experience – especially if we haven’t been able even to squeeze into the size we normally wear.

Women’s Equality Party (WEP) want to highlight this issue with their #NoSizeFitsAll campaign.

The campaign asks women to share the multiple clothing sizes they have to wear online using the #NoSizeFitsAll hashtag, in order to challenge the fashion industry’s approach to body image.

WEP  found that one-in-five women in the UK cut the label out of their clothes and 70% say they do so out of shame and embarrassment at their size.

We all know that family group chats can be awkwardly cringe-worthy and embarrassing.

But while most of us are cringing over an old family photo or a bad dad-joke, one family has been left in shock after an uncle accidentally posted a dick pic into the chat.

A chat that was filled with his nieces and nephews, we must add.

Married couple Shweta and Aashish had been added to a family group chat by Aashish’s dad.

They’d been away from it for a little while when they heard a lots of buzzes of new messages in quick succession.

They were left confused as to why one of Aashish’s uncles began spamming the group message… Read the full story

Good evening, and welcome to Channel 4’s Great British Bake Off.*

*Not really. There (probably) won’t be any penis cakes on GBBO, even without Mary Berry. We think.

One genius baker has created a cake with an edible penis on top. But this is not just any penis cake. This is a penis cake that ejaculates a delicious, creamy surprise.

Delightful.

The ejaculating penis cake, as it’s catchily named, is the creation of Swiss baker and pastry chef Jasmin Rinkes.

Waffles are a treat breakfast to be enjoyed on a weekend morning when you have a little more time on your hands to have a proper sit down breakfast with your family, partner or friends.

Here’s an alternative, but equally delicious, waffle recipe that’s high in fibre, high in protein, and, crucially, vegan and gluten-free!

No turkey for you. (Picture: Getty)

I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a bag of trash on fire. Everything we held dear has been burned to the ground. Nothing is sacred and life as we knew it has been ruined.

Great British Bake Off will no longer be shown on the BBC. Brexit is happening. Quality Street removed the Toffee Deluxe from its tubs.

And worst of all – the greatest affront to our great British sensibilities, the biggest heartbreak, the highest act of disrespect – Wetherspoons has now announced that they no longer plan to serve Christmas dinners.
