Who said that being packed into a Tube carriage with your make up slowly melting off your face was bliss? Or that daily traffic jam sprinkled with a healthy amount of road rage?

Nobody.

In fact, being in that situation day in day out only serves to remind us all how unblissful commuting is. Cue lots of daydreaming as you stare out of the rain-smeared windows.

And because escaping to that tropical island paradise inside your head is the perfect way to pass the journey, here are 12 places you’ll wish you were whenever you find yourself commuting…

Some people just want to help. They’re civic-minded like that.

Take comedian and Twitter genius Jon Hendren (aka @fart) from Mountain View, California. He doesn’t want anyone to go forgetting the important promises they once made to themselves.

So, he’s started sending people gentle reminders about the goals they once shared on Twitter.

Thus, providing an essential public service.

For example, he’s stopped Verna making a grave mistake by getting herself a robot (although he might have been a couple of years too late).

Brad Kearns, aka daddy-blogger ‘DadMum’ has publicly slammed a man who looked down upon his wife for being a stay-at-home parent.

Brad was at a wedding with his family and was chatting to the people who they’d met at their table. The conversation turned to work, as it so often does, and Brad was asked what he did for living.

‘I don’t know why this f*cking conversation happens,’ Brad wrote in a post to his Facebook page.

‘It’s almost like a passive game of ‘who’s the richest’ or ‘guess my lifestyle’.’

After Brad discussed his work, the man’s eyes turned to Brad’s wife, Sarah. But before giving her a chance… Read the full story

fairytale

We all want the fairytale, Julia. Sadly, most of us are still waiting for a text back.

Not one lucky lady, though, after her boyfriend planned an epic proposal that took her across three countries and ended in a medieval castle in Rome.

After four years together, Mike Arndt, 25, from Worsley, Greater Manchester, spent months planning the treasure hunt proposal to Dajana Sadowska.

It would take her on a journey, which started in Bolton, stopped off in Frankfurt and ended in the Italian capital – spanning 12 hours.

I braved the scalpel facial which blades off the top layer of your skin

So, I popped down to Dr. David Jack’s on Harley Street for his terrifying scalpel facial, aka, the Egyptian facial.

It involves lifting the skin with an acid peel and then blading off the top layer – hair and all – with a tiny, but very sharp, scalpel.

It sounds like the stuff of nightmares (well, it is nearly Halloween) – but it’s far less dramatic than it sounds.

It’s actually an ancient Egyptian technique – no doubt adored by the likes of Cleopatra – which Dr Jack decided to reintroduce into his private clinic.

Yes, you can wear jewels in your beautiful beard hair.

Krato Beard Accessories, a lifestyle brand created by Milan-based designer and ‘visionary’ Valeria Stroukova, is currently crowdfunding the exclusive jewellery range for beards on Kickstarter.

Gin is a surprisingly complex spirit – both historically and in its make-up.

Gin sales hit a whopping £1 million a day… with Brits drinking 19 million litres in just one year

While many might believe it has its origins in Britain – perhaps due to the classic London Dry Gin moniker – the spirit originally came to Europe via Holland.

The name ‘gin’ in fact is the English translation of the Dutch word ‘jenever’ and the phrase ‘Dutch Courage’ comes from gin drinking too.

What happens to the teddy bears that get left behind on holiday?

We like to imagine they get picked up by kids that need them more than we do (please, please let me believe that Soft Brown Baby Cow, my imaginatively named toy cow, has found a loving home).

But many of them probably end up thrown in a bin, trodden into the ground, or just left alone for all eternity, hidden from view after being dropped down the side of a… Read the full story

You head into a lecture feeling positive. You’re present. You’re keen and ready to learn.

And then you find your attention wandering. Your eyelids feel heavy. You’re trying so hard to focus, but you’re just. so. tired.

You don’t want to fall asleep. You’re dedicated to your education. It’s important.

But you just can’t help it.

This cat understands your struggle.

We do not know this cat’s name, who he or she belongs to, or why it chose this particular lecture.

Today (1 October) is International Coffee Day. The day is intended to celebrate the journey the coffee makes from the farm to your coffee cup and to honour the people who make it.

There’s a lot more to coffee than just a flat white, latte or Americano. It makes a great ingredient in many other drinks, bakes and meals such as in Sainsbury’s controversial spag bol with coffee recipe which metro.co.uk tried out so you don’t have to.

Here are 15 different ways you can use coffee:

Black dogs are less likely to be adopted than any other colour. (Picture: Getty)

Did you know that black dogs and cats are less likely to be adopted than dogs and cats with any other colour fur?

The trend is called Black Dog (and cat) Syndrome, and it sucks.

Basically, a lot of people don’t want black cats and dogs because they consider them bad luck, or believe stereotypes about the behaviour of these animals.

Black pets also find it trickier to get noticed, as they often fade into the background at shelters, and they don’t photograph as well as pets with other fur colours.

So you’ve got a few succulents and a cactus, and now think of yourself as a greenthumbed plant-lover.

Suddenly plant pots are deeply exciting. You feel a strange urge to fill your home with terrariums. You strongly believe that every room must have at least one plant.

You’re a full on plant person, and you’re loving it.

And we’re sure your personal plant-growing setup is absolutely delightful. But it probably doesn’t quite measure up to the brilliance of this snazzy home for all things plant.

Interesting. (Picture: Instagram/feedyourgirlfriend)

This week in trendy food news, the new food trend is a combination of a formerly trendy food and pudding – so there’s actually a good likelihood that you’ll enjoy it.

That’s right. It’s a food trend that sounds good and is not entirely ridiculous.

You can eat it with ease, unlike the avocado bun burger. It is not a replacement for bread, like the trendy sweet potato ‘toast’ craze.

In fact, this may be one of the top ten least annoying food trends of the year. It’s just a genuine new dessert that looks cool. Hooray.

Behold ice cream ramen.
