2016 has been a cruel, cruel year. Legends have dropped dead like flies, and today marks the passing of yet another icon.

Twitter has killed Vine.

Everything that's wrong with the petition to get the term Essex Girl banned

You may think you don’t care. You may think needs a six second video app when you’ve got Snapchat, right?

But have any Snapchats become iconic? Have any become memes in and of themselves? No.

So with that in mind, here are some of the best Vines since the platform began in 2013. During the… Read the full story

I went on a ghost hunt in a haunted castle – and this is what I learnt

A haunted castle isn’t just for Halloween, it’s for life (Picture: Warwick Castle)

When it comes to ghosts and the supernatural, I am gently sceptical.

My mother has had some spooky encounters, but I’ve never seen anything particularly weird, despite once trying to convince myself that my primary school was haunted by Richard III.

Nonetheless, I’m fascinated by the supernatural and genuinely interested in mediums, ghost hunters and psychics – even if they’re fake, they’re still interesting.

So I headed to Warwick Castle during their Halloween Haunted CastleRead the full story

Every day’s a ‘national day’ – but there’s only one that anyone can get on board with.

And that’s National Chocolate Day.

‘It’s all innocent fun’ says pageant mum who defends fake-tanning three-year-old

To celebrate, you might want to treat yourself to a Vicar of Dibley-style chocolate binge. After all, when else can you legitimately stick your head into a chocolate fountain?

But on a Friday, what you really need is something alcoholic.

By 13 however, he was cancer-free.

Now, he’s a motivational speaker, a Paralympic ski racer, and a complete Halloween boss.

Josh has become an internet sensation thanks to his genius one-legged Halloween costumes, which he creates from scratch every year.

He says on his website that he used to be self-conscious about his disability.

‘In high school I wore a prosthesis all the time and didn’t want anyone to find out I was missing a leg,’ he wrote.

‘But now I’m more at ease with who I am and what I look like, and I guess with these Halloween costumes you could even say that I celebrate what makes me… Read the full story

1. The student/teacher relationship

The ultimate classic. There was a girl (usually in year 11) who was sleeping with one of the only male teachers (who was probably happily married and had no idea about his fictional life.)

2. The crisp packet condom

There’s a couple, they want to get down to it, but they haven’t got a condom.

These are the most iconic Vines which changed meme and internet history

What do they use?

A crisp packet, of course.

Different schools had different accounts when it came to the flavour. Grim.

3. The pregnant girl

Someone was always supposed to be pregnant.

Usually a girl in year nine who’d never actually met a boy.

Variations included that it was twins, or that her parents were going to raise it as their own.

This year will be full of Donald Trump wigs, Harlequin pigtails and Harambe (well, the ghost of), but do you actually know why we dress up and try to scare the cr*p out of one another?

Sami Bushell, 28, from Doncaster, enters Hallie Mai into various competitions which require children to be fully made up.

‘Everything is very skimpy and over the top,’ she says.

‘It’s very blingy and glitzy, but pageants are a controlled environment.

‘It’s not like anyone can just walk in and sit and watch. It’s all innocent fun.’

Unless they’d travel 50 miles to give you a banana, that is.

‘Who’d go out of their way to do that?’ I hear you ask.

Well, the answer to that, my friends, is 20-year-old Justin Mendoza, from California – who drove 50 miles after his friend Martin Peredo, 21, asked him to bring him a banana.

Sigh. How many times must a woman be humiliated and bullied for feeding her child in public before restaurants and shops realise that it’s just not okay?

In this instance, mother of two Katy Scringna was feeding her baby at Ikea in Ashton-Under-Lyne when she was approached by a security guard who wanted her to move to a designated breast-feeding area.

Katy wrote a post about her experience and shared it on Facebook.

A rep for IKEA assured Metro.co.uk that this was an isolated incident, and a mistake:

Essex Girls have a bad rep. Tune into TOWIE and anyone would think the whole county was walking around with silicone boobs, fillers and vajazzles.

Which is why two women, Rebecca Sawkins and Juliet Thomas are now campaigning to get the term Essex Girl removed from the dictionary.

Sufferers often feel alone (Picture: Liberty Antonia Sadler)

Eating disorders can be very difficult to understand.

I have read many blogs stating what NOT to say: “how do you stay so skinny?” and “you need to eat some pies” are obviously unhelpful.

Supporters often feel like they can’t do or say anything right, like they’re treading on egg shells.

However, here’s my advice about what you CAN say…

1. “I’m here for you”

Having an eating disorder is very lonely; it’s important to hear from friends and family that they’re just there.

It does not necessarily mean you’ll do or… Read the full story

Halloween can be a paragon of competitive-parenting.
