We didn’t think there could be many things more truly soul-destroying than seeing someone standing on their chair, holding an iPad over some food so they can Instagram their meal.

But then someone decided to flip the script a bit.

Not by saying ‘hey, put down your iPad – or at least use a phone – and eat your damn food’, to be clear.

Nope. Quince restaurant in San Francisco flipped things in a more literal sense, by putting the iPad underneath the food.

Welcome to the awkward phase when it is no longer Christmas, and we’re still a little way away from NYE.

Your favourite 90s glitter gel is back, but it's now called unicorn snot

You’re at a bit of a loss with what to do with yourself, you’ve stuffed your face with as much food as possible, watched every single box set going, spent enough time with your grandparents and now you’re stuck for ideas.

Welcome to a period of not knowing what day it is, lounging in sweatpants and having no desire to leave the comfort of your spot on the sofa.

1. No concept of time

What day is it? What time is it? Is it time to eat yet? Or is it appropriate to have a nap?

All these questions will run through your head on a… Read the full story

The best Christmas gifts – the ones you remember for years afterwards – tend to be the presents people spend serious time and emotional effort on.

They’re the handwritten book, rather than the expensive watch. The polished ring that used to belong to your grandma instead of the blowout gift card.

Or they’re the entire script of Bee Movie, written out inside a Christmas card.

Conner Fastenau and his girlfriend Nicole Dudley are a ‘pretty meme-y couple’.

Ah, the 90s. A time when we slicked our lips with frosted brown lipstick, doused ourselves in Impulse spray, and covered our hair, cheeks, and the entirety of our shoulder area with sparkling glitter gel.

We knew that the 90s had made a comeback. We noticed the chokers, the centre-parted hair, the mini buns.

We didn’t expect glitter gel to return. But it has.

And because we’re in 2016, it’s been repackaged with a unicorn reference.

No matter how much champagne gets downed at a New Year’s party, there will always be half-empty bottles left behind.

This will cause some bright spark to pipe up with advice: ‘Put a silver spoon in it, that’ll stop it from going flat’.

Then there will be either general agreement to ignore the plonker who thinks this is a genuine tip, or a collection of drunk people gathering up the cutlery to drop it in the booze.

They’re little bundles of cells that have been brewing in human organs, like mighty fine cups of tea.

They then pop out all fresh and innocent and squishy, ready to be moulded into fine specimens of human. It’s a bloomin’ miracle!

And yeah, they might wail and poop themselves and ruin your social life/sleep schedule/sex life (delete as appropriate) but it’s totally… Read the full story

Where to get the best champagne flutes and coupes for New Year’s Eve

happy-new-year-great-gatsby-toast-fireworks-animated-gif

It’s all well and good to be stocked up on bubbly for New Year’s Eve, thanks to the best champagne offers and deals out there.

But it would be a bit awkward if you ran out of glasses for your guests, leaving half of them to drink out of a mug.

The champagne coupe, or saucer, was the most popular shape to use for champers until the early 20th century (think The Great Gatsby), having been designed in 1663 in England – despite popular legend suggesting it was designed by the French based on the shape of Marie Antoinette’s breast (coupes have since been modelled on Claudia Schiffer’s breast, by Dom Perignon in 2008, and Kate Moss’s left breast, by Mayfair restaurant 34).
