It’s a rainy day in July, so what better time to start thinking about chunky cable knits and shaggy winter coats?

Because, while we love summer with its gladiator sandals and floaty dresses, there’s nothing like the first wave of autumn clothes in the shops.

Maybe it’s the nostalgic back-to-school feel of all the greys and maroons, or maybe it’s just the cashmere, but the start of autumn is our favourite time in the fashion calendar.

Here’s the trends fashion’s finest will be following next season.

20 things only work at home parents will understand

Before I actually had children I had the whole work/kids/home thing all figured out. I would work from home during the evenings and afternoons while the babies were asleep. Maybe get a bit done while they played with their toys.

But as I discovered shortly after the arrival of my firstborn, juggling parenthood with anything at all is pretty damn difficult…

Here are a few things work from home parents will understand:

1. The children will be happily playing on their own but the moment you sneak off and switch on your computer- they will want something from you.

2. The baby will never, ever nap when you have a load of work to finish.

3. You plan to make an early… Read the full story

Most of us are more than happy when the view from our flat is of a garden rather than a parking lot.

But this guy has definitely won the competition for the best view ever. Better yet, it changes every day.

Scott Kelly was launched into space in March to discover how the human body is affected by living outside our atmosphere. He’s spending a whole year up at the International Space Station with Mikhail Kornienko.

This is a big deal as most astronauts usually only spend a maximum of six months on the space station.

To document the groundbreaking trip, Kelly has been sharing the most amazing… Read the full story

Imagine if you could tell the truth (Picture: Getty)

You know the drill. So-and-so’s leaving in a blaze of passive-aggressive rage after 10 years of idle threats, and the leaving card’s doing the rounds.

You know what you really want to write, but you inevitably settle for the standard ‘good luck!’, or a really poor ‘in’ joke that you regret even as you’re writing it.

But, imagine what you’d write if you could be brutally honest.

Actually, you don’t have to imagine, because the guys at Someecards have done it for you.

Some of these are so eerily on point, it’s like they’ve seen into our actual soul.

When you know, deep down, that replacement’s never coming.… Read the full story

14 struggles you only know if you’re always early

I’ll just wait alone for an hour for everyone else to arrive (Picture: Getty)

Being early is something that you’re really proud of.

Anyone can be on time, and anyone can be late, but it takes a certain level of expertise and planning to always show up everywhere early.

However your earliness isn’t often the blessing you hope, and with it comes a certain type of struggle – like having your patience tested by latecomers, and finding places to mosey around whilst waiting for your friends to arrive.

1. Waiting for others = the worst

If you find yourself waiting for others you have to fight the overwhelming temptation of bombarding them with texts demanding to know exactly why they are late, and when they will arrive.

2. One second… Read the full story

Another win positive body image and, well, common sense.

Topshop have decided to ditch their unrealistically tall, thin mannequins.

In a statement issued on Facebook, the company announced: ‘going forward we are not placing any further orders on this style of mannequin.’

The move comes after shopper Laura Berry wrote an open letter to the brand on Facebook, asking ‘ I’d love to hear how you can justify the ridiculously tiny mannequin in your Bristol Cribbs Causeway store?’ and branding the mannequins ‘ridiculously shaped’.

Is nothing sacred?

A top Australian doctor has warned that kissing has overtaken smoking and drinking to become the primary risk factor for developing head and neck cancers.

But how can this be?

Well Dr Mahiban Thomas, who is head of maxillofacial and head and neck surgery at the Royal Darwin hospital, warned that kissing (and just to be clear, we’re talking about full-on snogging rather than a peck on the cheek) can pass on HPV (human papilloma virus) – a family of viruses which can lead to cancer.

In fact, Dr Thomas explained that, according to studies coming out of America, around 70 per cent of head and neck cancers are due to HPV.

Cast your mind back to the early 2000s when getting your first iPod was the height of cool. Now prepare to feel very old as kids mock them with hilarious abandon.

Launched in 2001, the iPod revolutionised the way we listened to music. We could finally carry around all our favourite tunes in our pocket and it was amazing.

Fast forward to 2015 and today’s kids are calling it ‘the grandfather of iPods’.

Brooke-Monae, aged nine, loves how chunky the first gen was – ‘This can stand up! The iPods today cannot stand up.’

As Maxim, who wants to be an engineer, says: ‘This one is big and I know old technology is big.’

If being a Minion is your dream fantasy job, it’s probably time to take stock of your life (unless you’re five) (Picture: Pixar)

In totally pointless surveys of the day, Minion has topped a list of most wanted fantasy jobs.

Yes, it turns out that British adults quite fancy being a Minion. Just to be clear as to what exactly this means, Minions are described as ‘single-celled yellow organisms which live to serve’. Aspirational or what!

The worrying statistic comes from a survey where 2,085 Brits aged 18 or over were asked to choose a fantasy job from a list, which also included the likes of Greek god, Jedi knight and dinosaur trainer (all of which, clearly, sound better than Minion).

If you’re self-employed, work flexible hours, freelance or have just managed to negotiate with your boss you will have experienced the joys of working from home.

Not having to commute and being able to work in your pyjamas if you like is a wonderful thing, but working regularly from home comes with it’s own unique (albeit small) worries…

So if your 9-5 is a bit more a fluid, sitting down at home at any time in the day then you might recognise some of these trials of working from home:

1. Pretending your kitchen table or worktop is your ‘home office’.

2. Reasoning with the workmen next door who are drilling through walls in the middle of the day.

3. Having to sign for deliveries for… Read the full story

Who needs sun?  (Picture: Carol Yepes)

The summer is here! However, the sun is nowhere to be seen. All the plans you had to visit theme parks, zoos and petting farms have all gone down the drain.

But is that really such a bad thing?

I don’t know about anyone else but on a hot day I feel like I simply must ‘go outside.’ I drag the kids here, there and everywhere trying my best to be a good parent and provide them with round the clock education, stimulation and exercise.

So sometimes when it is wet outside, I am a little bit relieved. Because it is nice to have a guilt-free reason to stay at home with the children occasionally.
