Eating Disorders Awareness Week is February 27 to March 5 this year and is focused on early intervention in the treatment of eating disorders.

Binge Eating1-food-mmuffin.pngEating Disorders Awareness Week: What are they, why do people have them and how are they treated

I was diagnosed with anorexia in my early 20s but had been suffering since my teens.

When I was 15, I first went to my GP.

Here’s a couple of diary excerpts from that time.

I’ve been struggling for a couple of years now. I don’t really know what it’s about.

All I know is that I want to lose weight, I weigh myself… Read the full story

Most of the world follows the Gregorian calendar which consists of 365 days, but every four years it adds an extra day, giving us a leap year.

This extra 24 hours is important in ensuring the calendar doesn’t go out of sync, so February 29th comes to the rescue.

If it wasn’t added, then we could eventually be braving the winter during what we know as the summer months.

Sometimes all it takes is one small act of kindness to brighten your day.

For one woman, however, a stranger’s gesture of goodwill had a moving impact on her motivation to recover from anorexia.

Rose is currently a patient of The Recover Clinic, which offers recovery programs for those with eating disorders.

Eating Disorder Awareness Week runs from 27 February to 5 March – but what is the week all about, and why are people taking selfies of their socks?

Beat, the UK’s leading charity affecting those with eating disorders, is working to raise awareness of these serious mental health conditions.

Discussing the importance of providing people with treatment as soon as possible is a big part of their message, as is the role of GPs in treating eating disorders.

Maybe breast is best, but what if I just don’t want to breastfeed?

Breastfeeding (Picture: Getty)

I don’t have children. I’m 26, I live in a rented flat and sometimes I can’t find my phone and then realise it’s in my hand.

But I’m hoping children are on the horizon for me.

I spent several years working as a nanny and I love children, so I’ve got a decent amount of childcare experience. I know (roughly) how hard it is. And I reckon that overall, I could probably just about handle it. But there’s one part that I can’t get on board with, and that’s breastfeeding.

We all know that breastfeeding is wonderful. There’s no question that it’s an amazing thing to provide to your child.

But it’s also a source of… Read the full story

Despite having been to fashion school and having subscribed to any number of glossy, expensive magazines, I dress like a messy child.

At work, I can often be found in kilts not dissimilar to those worn by convent pupils, or three-quarter high waisted jeans off of the ’80s.

It’s not entirely my fault; the vast majority of my wardrobe is comprised of hand-me-downs from my parents and neighbours. I’m also… Read the full story

Whether you call them pancakes or crepes, these beauties are the perfect ones to have on Pancake Day for me.

When I was growing up, my mum only made pancakes for us once a year.

When is pancake day 2017? Why Pancake Day is called ‘Shrove Tuesday’

They were always the same – traditional crepes served with lemon and sugar.

There were no American-style fluffy pancakes, no blueberries and certainly no maple syrup.

Today, these are the only pancakes that will do on Shrove Tuesday for me.

All you need to make them is eggs, milk and flour. And of course lemons and sugar for the topping.

Here’s how to make really easy pancakes.

When I first decided to ditch animal products around five years ago, the vegan landscape was still a bit – I’ll be honest – crap.

There were about two types of vegan cheese, and they both tasted like chalk.

Finding makeup that was both good and hadn’t been plunged into the eyes of rabbits seemed like a near-impossible task.
