We all think that dogs are so sweet and innocent, with their puppy dog eyes and their wagging tails.

We are wrong.

How training for the London Marathon destroyed my relationship

Dogs are just as rude and deceitful as the rest of us, and will happily lie to our faces if it means they’ll be able to get their paws on snacks.

A study recently published in Animal Cognition found that dogs are perfectly okay with deceiving their owners in order to get a treat.

The study’s lead author, animal behaviourist Marianne Heberlein gathered a bunch of dogs to play with two different people: one who gave them… Read the full story

Wedding speeches really make or break a reception.

You want just the right amount of cringe to turn the happy couple an attractive shade of crimson and have the groomsmen cheering while keeping the hoards of great aunts, grandparents and elderly neighbours on-side.

Hot people are rubbish at being in relationships

Get it wrong and not only will you have killed any buzz but you’ll also be responsible for making bored guests drink more than they normally would – thus creating a perilous situation for all concerned.

The pressure is real.

Tomorrow is St Patrick’s Day –  the perfect excuse to indulge in a pint of Guinness.

But before you do, it might be worth knowing how many calories you’re taking in.

A pint of Guinness, or 568ml of the beverage, contains 210 calories – which may be surprising to some, who would expect a drink with a caramel-tinged flavour to have a higher calorie count.

Recently, I was dumped rather unceremoniously on the phone…at work.

We’d been together for coming up to two years and had talked umpteen times about moving in together eventually, holidays and various other commitment milestones.

How training for the London Marathon destroyed my relationship

So this was pretty brutal. After all, nobody wants to be angry crying behind the shrubs in the office atrium.

But it wasn’t as devastating as it might have been because I was partly expecting it.

Among other things, my running schedule had become a bone of contention. ICYMI, I’m running the London Marathon next month, and that’s meant upping my already quite active gym schedule considerably.

My ex and I had regular discussions (read: arguments) about me not making enough time for him, and being more interested in the gym than in hanging out.

Sleep can be tiring stuff (Picture: Getty)

Most of us will have occasional difficulties in getting to or staying asleep after a hard or busy day, but, for some people, chronic sleep problems can dramatically affect their lives.

UK surveys suggest that most adults now get less than seven hours sleep each night and, while there’s no single ‘magic number’ for the right amount of sleep, that’s likely to be less than many of us need.

Set your alarm – it’s World Sleep Day on Friday, March 17.

It’s a day to raise awareness about the key role sleep has to play in our lives and help people recognise the burdens sleep problems can bring.

People who eat more cheese are slimmer than those who don't

The World Sleep Society is behind the annual event, created to celebrate sleep and provide a call to action on related issues, such as how a lack of sleep can affect education, driving, and our social lives.

Although most sleep disorders are preventable or treatable, less than a third of sufferers seek help.

This year, the slogan is… Read the full story

St Patrick’s Day – it’s the one day of the year that we gear ourselves up to see all of our major cities awash with shamrocks, Irish flags and gallons of Guinness.

Vegan beer for St Patrick’s Day – because you can’t drink Guinness yet

Today people around the world will be raising a glassful, or several, of Guinness to the patron saint of Ireland, Saint Patrick.

Those people, however, will not include vegans or vegetarians.

Despite announcing in November 2015 that Guinness would become vegan-friendly this still hasn’t happened meaning that yet another Paddy’s day has to be Guinness-free for vegans.

What makes Guinness unsuitable for vegans?

Guinness is filtered through isinglass – the swim bladders of fish – making it unsuitable for vegetarians or vegans.

This substance is used to make beers clear, and is widely used in the alcohol industry.

Guinness doesn’t include any other animal products.

However, honey, dairy or other animal products are sometimes used in other alcohol, so… Read the full story
