As any modern human knows, your birthday is worth nothing unless people on the internet acknowledge it.

Sure, you took the day off work to sit alone with your thoughts and daytime telly, but if enough people you used to know write, ‘HB babe xoxo,’ on your Facebook wall the world need never truly know how desperately alone you are.

Because friends on the World Wide Web > than irl friends.

Girls talking in movie theater.
Shhhhh! (Picture: Getty)

The cinema, the pictures, the movies, the flicks.

It’s supposed to be a cheap and simple way to unwind.

A lazy date, an easy way to get the girls together, a fun family outing.

But there’s one problem.

Your average cinema is teeming with others seemingly intent on ruining your night.

Here’s the 13 most despicable people you will see at the cinema.

1. The lovers

I’m sorry you are 16 and out of your minds on hormones, the horn and the novelty of a member of the opposite sex letting you hook your fingers in their jeans belt loops.

I’m sorry you are too unimaginative to think of any other darkened space in which to suck each others’ faces off, too embarrassed to make out… Read the full story

Holidays – are they even worth it (Picture: Getty)

If you find going on a massive stress, you’re not alone.

A recent survey has found that 23 per cent of people return from holiday more stressed than when they set off, which is obviously pretty rubbish.

The survey of 2,000 Brits also found that more than a quarter (26 per cent) of people took two to three days to truly unwind on holiday, while one in ten took between three to four days to hit their holiday stride – which isn’t ideal when you consider that the average holiday lasts just nine days.

In particular, the #TinyRoadSign project aims to improve driver awareness around wooded areas that are populated with animals.

Photographer brought his childhood holiday snaps back to life by drawing over long lost friends

Forgotten Childhood: I Paint Over My Friends I Don't Remember I found some lost photographs taken by my father. After I saw these images, I started remembering old times and old friends. However, I did not remember everyone. So I decided to draw over those I do not remember very well. The less detailed a person is, the less I remember that person. My father was the one who introduced me to photography, so it looked like a perfect idea. After he gave me the permission to edit these old photos, this mixture of photography and illustration came into being. The hashtag has sparked a debate around dress codes on Twitter (Picture: Twitter)

The hashtag #IfAnythingSchoolTaughtMe is trending on Twitter.

Of course, many of the tweets have been for laughs –  like it taught us to do our homework in under 10 minutes, to text without looking, and to forge your parents’ signature.

However, others are using the hashtag to express concerns over school dress codes.

Specifically, the importance given to what children wear – which sometimes feels more important than their education.

You want to touch them don’t you? (Picture: Instagram)

You thought you’d seen it all when it came to nail art. You hadn’t.

Although ‘bubble nails’, also known as ‘hump nails’ have actually been around since 2009, the trend appears to have resurfaced recently. And it’s blowing up your Instagram feed.

The technique is achieved by building up acrylic in the middle of the nail and thinning it out around the edges, to create a curve. It’s up to the client how curvy they want to go.

Here’s how Nails magazine describe the process: ‘Bubble nails require building and sculpting of the acrylic until you get the look your client wants to achieve. You have to know exactly where the hump is supposed to be,… Read the full story

Whole Foods was mistakenly selling ‘asparagus water’ and people almost bought it

This is not a thing. We repeat: this is not a thing (Picture: Getty)

A Whole Foods labelling error almost made asparagus water the new ridiculous health drink fad. Almost.

This week, shoppers at Whole Foods in Brentwood, California spotted the new health drink, priced at $5.99 (£3.85) per bottle on the shelves. For just under four pounds, you got a bottle filled with water and three stalks of asparagus.

Was this the new maple water? Could Whole Foods get any more ridiculous? Are they becoming a parody of themselves? There were so many questions.

Alerted by bemused customers on Twitter, Eater called the store to investigate. They were initially told by an employee that the product was indeed new to the store. ‘We’ve had them… Read the full story

This is a cautionary tale.

A checkout boy got a little bit smart with a female shopper when she was purchasing sanitary towels and it didn’t end well for him.

Australian Lauren Jovanović was so enraged by the boy’s sass that she went home and posted a long rant on Facebook, directed at his employer Coles supermarkets.

‘Hi Coles. Just wondering whether your male checkout staff receive training on appropriate conversation and facial expressions to display while scanning female sanitary items, such as pads and tampons?’ she begins.

Paint is so last year – Nadia Luongo makes incredible works of art using food instead.

The 29-year-old Italian turns pop culture icons from Audrey Hepburn to Batman’s Joker into playful tabletop artworks using materials like milk and sugar.

Luongo wrote on Talenthouse: ‘I really think that art can come from anywhere and inspiration can come even from simple things we use every day.’

Surprisingly, Luongo isn’t a professional artist – she is actually a Biomedical Engineering graduate, but says her real passion lies in art.

We think she should pursue her passion, because her food creations are epic.

These wedding photos really take your breath away.

Newlyweds Endijs and Elina Perkons from Latvia captured some truly special wedding shots by posing on a cliff edge thousands of feet above California’s Yosemite National Park.

Groom Endijs is seen dipping his bride into a full-on Hollywood kiss, while standing 4,700 feet up, on a ledge known as ‘Half Dome’.

The dome is Yosemite’s most familiar rock formation apparently and rises more than 4,737 ft above the valley floor.

The wedding pictures were taken by photographer Brian Rueb, from Redding, California.

These Nutella doughnut milkshakes look so good we want to take them into a dark room and shut the door.

Online reviews include ‘holi crapoli’ and ‘it’s monstrous, but I want it’.

It looks like heaven in a giant jam jar.

The Tella Ball shake is a Nutella milkshake topped with a Nutella doughnut, through which a straw is threaded so you can drink the chocolatey shake through the actual effing doughnut.

The only downside is that is being sold in a cafe in Sydney, Australia. But, y’know, we’re willing to travel.

Have a hunger you just can’t satisfy? Then you need to head to TGI’s.

TGI Fridays are one of the original American diner joints, and their latest menu revamp shows just how serious they are about satisfying your hunger.

First up, there’s their boundary-pushing chicken finger BLT waffle, which TGI recommend for those who ‘like to mix it up’.

This sweet/ savoury mash-up sees crispy chicken breast tenders served between two sweet waffles, with melted cheese, crispy bacon, honey mustard mayo and rocket and tomato (you know, just for good five-a-day measure).

Rodarte eyebrow rings beauty trend

Thought your eyebrows were on fleek? Think again, because unless they’re covered in rings, gems or bold splashes of colour, your game just isn’t strong enough.

It all started back in 2014 when fashion brand Rodarte had their models stomp down the runway with brows adorned with silver rings.

Combined with subtle makeup, the faux piercings looked surprisingly feminine and caused a huge stir in the fashion world.

The golden era for eyebrows had been ushered in.

Ever since, brows have been taken to levels that make even Cara Delevingne’s famous arches look tame.

Two months ago, Scotland launched its answer to Route 66 – NC500 (aka the North Coast 500).

And it seems the marketing sell is already working, as the 500-mile coastline drive has been named in the world’s top five road trips.

The route was designed by the North Highland Initiative (NHI), set up by Prince Charles to showcase Scotland’s many charms, and it swings by some of the country’s most glorious scenery.

It may not have the Californian weather but it more than makes up for it with the views.
