Could masturbating cure my PMS and cramps?

I’ve always suffered from pretty horrible periods.

Behold this photographer's glorious celebration of bums

They’re heavy, painful and sometimes I get dizzy or sick. It’s been this way since I was a teenager, and apparently, shouldn’t be considered cause for concern. But it does take a toll on my life.

The two worst parts of my period are the hormone cloud that settles over me 4-5 days before it arrives, making me irrationally angry and tetchy and causing huge rows with my partner, and also the cramps.

There’s always been an old wives tale that an orgasm could help with… Read the full story

When we’re kids, admitting that our best friend is an adult is considered the height of loser-dom.

To say you’re best mates with your mum or like hanging out with a teacher is seen as, well, a bit weird.

It’s seen as a public declaration that you can’t get on with kids your own age, that you think you’re better or more mature than other people.

That sense of weirdness sticks with us long after we leave school.

For many of us, it still feels like making friends with someone older or younger… Read the full story

When Natalie Gordon shared a story yesterday, about being sexually harassed on a bus, she knew that it wasn’t an unusual experience.

But she didn’t realise quite how much it would resonate with women all over the world.

Natalie posted about an occurance that, for most women, while incredibly unpleasent, is not unusual or shocking.

Coeliac Awareness Week is taking place between May 8 and 14 in the UK.

The week is designed by Coeliac UK to raise awareness of coeliac disease – an autoimmune disease caused by a reaction to gluten.

Not having kids at your wedding is just selfish

There’s no cure for the condition so the only option is to avoid the protein – found in wheat and some other grains – for life.

If you follow a gluten-free diet, or want to bake for a friend who does, then this chocolate orange sandwich cake would be a great choice.

It’s easy to make and tastes amazing… Read the full story

You know what is utterly, completely, unreasonably lovely?

metro illustrationsHow to make friends when you start a new job

Bread.

We really need to talk about bread.

Partially because it’s Real Bread Week this week. But mostly because bread is basically the most magical substance ever created. And it’s been getting a really hard time since Dr Atkins came to town more than a decade ago.

Before Atkins happened, a sandwich was considered a healthy meal. Bread was a nice, normal part of life. And then the culling of carbs began and everything was spoiled.

Eating bread and being thin were suddenly mutually exclusive, so we dutifully threw… Read the full story

Pondering whether the grass is always really greener, Bibi Lynch and Alice Wright put their ‘been there, done that’ heads together to discuss the merits of long-term sex versus bumping bits with a brand new person.

metro illustrationsConversations with Bibi & Alice: Should weddings be banned?

Bibi is single, has had lots of flings and 3-monthers but her last serious long-term relationship (LTR) ended the day after Diana died. She doesn’t believe there is a connection.

Alice has drifted in and out of long-termers for pretty much all of her adult life and has now been married for a decade. She’s not only responsible for a husband, but a small person and two dogs.

Alice: So Bibi, what are we talking about today? Let’s do SEX?

Bibi: God, at least buy me dinner first. But, yes, let’s talk about sex, baby.

A: Ah you see if we had been together for any length… Read the full story

I once sat in front of a (relatively new) boyfriend as he blow-dried his bits.

He stood, legs spread, and eagerly used a hair-dryer on his damp cock and balls.

I then watched as he sprinkled Junior and Junior’s chubby twin pals with talc. (This is the man who, once, after he came, got off the bed, went to his laptop, and told me to ‘finish myself off’. So this boy wasn’t exactly in the ‘giving a sh*t’ school.)

Anyway, I only mention this keeper because I’ve just… Read the full story

It’s getting a little upsetting to be so much less stylish than a three-year-old.

But considering she’s the offspring of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, North West’s excellent style isn’t exactly surprising.

Let's be honest, bread is the best food in the entire world

Every time we see her in a slip dress or a camo jacket, the pain lessens a little bit. Yes, we would still like to have her wardrobe in an adult size, but it’s not a shock anymore. We’re accepting it.

We may not ever be as cool as North, but what we can do is ensure our kids are equally as… Read the full story

Molly is a Labrador Retriever who’s just welcomed a litter of puppies – with two surprise additions.

Her owners, farmers Serena Spearey and Adam Szymborski, had to introduce two piglets to Molly’s family, after their mum died from a suspected heart attack while giving birth.

The piglets were in need of food and love, and they found both in Molly.

They immediately nestled in with the other puppes and suckled from Molly as though she were their mum.

Hey Good Housekeeping, it’s not okay to use OCD as an adjective to mean ‘being clean’

Hey, Good Housekeeping.

I’ve always been a fan. I have no issues with your home decoration tips and greatly appreciate your rankings of sex toys and your investigations into biscuits.

Hey Good Housekeeping, it's not okay to use OCD as an adjective to mean 'being clean'

But even the best magazines are capable of f***ups, and this is one of them.

In their most recent issue, Good Housekeeping published a feature on staying healthy while travelling. As part of that feature, they advised their readers to ‘be a little OCD’.

Now, to be clear, when Good Housekeeping declared readers should ‘be a little OCD’, they didn’t mean that they should be plagued by obsessive thoughts, feel constantly on edge and filled with fear, or be unable to break out of rituals that affect their quality of life.

Underbun, underbutt, bum cleavage, whatever you call it, it’s a thing. It’s happening. And like last year and the year before it, it’s set to be a hot trend for the summer.

Hey Good Housekeeping, it's not okay to use OCD as an adjective to mean 'being clean'

What is underbutt, you may ask?

The name pretty much sums it up. It’s wearing shorts that are short enough to allow the lower part of your bum to peek out.

It’s the equivalent of cleavage for your lower half, which is bloody splendid for anyone pear-shaped or with a butt they’d quite like to display… Read the full story

We can just about see summer peeking over the horizon.

Our big coat is back in the wardrobe. We’re not quite ready to ditch our tights, that moment is coming – soon.

So it’s time to think about our drinking plans. These will likely involve crowded pub gardens and ants, but we’d also quite like to include many, many G&Ts.

To keep things from becoming too dull – and to soothe our sweaty, grumpy summer selves – we also plan on having many of these gin and tonic flavour ice lollies from Aldi.

As someone who suffered from anorexia, I think it’s great that France is banning unhealthy models

France has banned unhealthily thin models and this is a wonderful thing.

Having suffered from anorexia for many years, I know I was significantly influenced by what I saw in the media.

Anorexia, for me, was not just about a fear of fat but a strong desire to be extremely skinny.

I’ve recovered from anorexia – This is what a day in my life looks like

I do not blame the fashion industry for me developing anorexia but I’m really glad to hear the news today that they are going to have to take some action to manage the issue responsibly.

It is well-known that although genetics can predispose an individual to an eating disorder, environmental factors also play an important part.

Research has shown that people with anorexia actually experience a positive feeling when they view images of underweight people.
