Every Subway customer has wondered at one point or another whether their footlongs truly live up to their alleged size.

McDonald's is getting fancy by offering cutlery with its burgers

A few years ago, it was found that the Subway footling sandwiches had actually been measured to be under the size they claimed to be. It started when customers became sceptical and lodged complaints against the brand.

As an apology and a bid to change their ways, Subway dealt with the complaints by proposing a settlement, which required them to pay plaintiffs’ attorney fees and offer up to $1,000 (£646) to individual plaintiffs.

Travel in film vs travel in real life

Okay, it’s started, try and stay calm… (Picture: Getty)

If Hollywood is to be believed, travel is exclusively about feeling fine and looking finer.

The reality, of course, is a lot different.

When your body is used to cloud and drizzle, we don’t fare well in heat.

Shoulders blister within minutes and we’re drunk on one cocktail.

Getting your brood from A to B is a nightmare and you arrive so sleep deprived you try to hold a strangers’ hand in the passport queue.

Hollywood, you’ve got a lot to answer for.

And now, there’s an additional worry – that selfies could trigger seizures in teenagers with epilepsy.

A new study, published in medical journal Seizure, found a ‘novel case of photosensitivity’ occurred when taking selfies.

Photosensitivity occurs in a small number of those with epilepsy, and can cause them to have seizures when exposed to flashing, flickering, or shimmering lights. Seizures can also be triggered by particular screen resolutions on TVs… Read the full story

Life would definitely be boring without friends.

When it comes to having a squad of mates around you, it’s always a good idea to keep it varied.

Because the more different personalities there are, the more fun you will have.

Friends are hard to discover, and it’s even more challenging to find great friends.

Great friendships are those that are not a casual trip to Pizza Express once a year, but an actual friendship that includes ongoing contact, a lot of laughter and maybe a few trips.

As women, we’re pretty used to being told what we can and cannot do.

From everyday things like wearing make-up or investing in hair removal to bigger, fundamental issues like bodily autonomy, it’s all part of a patriarchal attempt to control what women do.

People are usually surprised when I say that I’m not on the pill.

‘So what do you use?’ the usual response, followed by complete horror when I answer, ‘condoms’.

Yes, we use condoms. I hate hormonal contraceptives, and I think it’s completely illogical that I have to have extra chemicals in my body 24/7 instead of us using a barrier method for the portion of time we’re actually having sex.

How much do looks REALLY matter when it comes to finding love?

With the iconic TV show Blind Date finally returning to our screens on Channel 5, have you ever wondered how much looks really matter?

Since Blind Date last adorned our screens, dating has moved on and morphed into something that puts emphasis on making instant decisions.

Look at the modern age. We’re programmed to think of looks first. You’re confronted with a photo and told to swipe left or right. You know nothing about these people.

It’s a belief as old as time, but does this still apply in the modern world? Should you find someone you’re physically attracted to over anything else?

Paul O’Grady’s playful manner seems a perfect fit for a show that works entirely on the basis that getting to know someone first is the way to go.

But is it?

Going to the dentist is undeniably grim.

Why are men still choosing to be so ignorant about feminism?

Even if you don’t have a full-on phobia of the dentist, having someone stick their latex-clad fingers and a variety of metal implements into your gob is hardly the nicest way to spend an afternoon.

You’ll therefore be pleased to hear the news that there may be a (fairly surprising) way of mitigating the absolute horror of the dentist: virtual reality.

A new study, published by Environment and Behaviour, found that calming nature scenes conveyed via virtual reality reduced fear and pain in 80 participants.
