Meet Akahi Ricardo, 36, and his wife, Camila Castello, 34.

They live between California and Ecuador, are parents to two children, and have been married since 2008. They also happen to be ‘breatharians’ – meaning they prefer to live off the ‘energy of the universe’ instead of regular meals.

Why are men still choosing to be so ignorant about feminism?

The couple say they only eat food around three times a week (yep, three times, meaning three meals of vegetable broth or fruit. Not three days) and claim to have previously gone three years without eating anything.

Akahi and Camila first… Read the full story

To the mum growing a ‘rainbow baby’ after suffering a miscarriage…

I too recently experienced the terrible heartache of a miscarriage. Is it me or is the reality of a miscarriage a hell of a lot worse than people make out?

Why don’t we talk about the detail? It seems we simply say ‘I sadly had a miscarriage’ and move on. You and I both know the reality is heartache, pain like no other pain, overwhelming grief, and a lot of crying on your own as you don’t feel you have the right to be sobbing over your… Read the full story

Why you shouldn’t give up on finding a mental health medication that works for you

Throughout my school years, my weight fluctuated. I’d always been a little bit chubby and it was something that I was self conscious about. It had a massive impact on my self-esteem.

metro illustrationsWhy you shouldn't give up on finding a mental health medication that works for you

But by the time I reached the age of seventeen, I’d managed to lose the weight and my confidence sky-rocketed. I felt the best I’d ever felt. I didn’t realise what confidence was until I finally felt okay in my body.

A few years later, I found myself becoming the insecure girl I’d so desperately wanted to leave in the past.

At the age of twenty I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder after having episodes of both mania and depression, and severe, uncontrollable outbursts. Immediately, I started medications prescribed by a psychiatrist, including quetiapine, a form of anti-pyschotic.

The medication was wonderful. I went from an… Read the full story

Alternative medicine can often seem pretty ridiculous.

First it was wasp’s nests, which we were apparently meant to shove up our vaginas to ‘tighten them’.

The world is running out of the fanciest type of camembert

And now we’re being told to insert toxic ozone gas in there for “anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal effects on unhealthy cells”.

One website claims that it can help with ‘yeast, bacterial and viral vaginal infections’, ‘unexplained pain in the vagina’, ‘labia pain, ‘pain with intercourse’ and ‘pelvic pain.

The gas is administered by inserting a cannula into the vagina, where it’s ‘introduced’ to the body. It… Read the full story

We may be able to get milkshake flavoured lip gloss, chocolate cookie flavoured lip gloss and even Reese’s flavoured over in our UK Claire’s stores – but that’s no match for U.S. stores, who have recently released a line of Krispy Kreme doughnut lip glosses.

Krispy Kreme lipglosses are here - and you can buy them on ebay

And obviously, we’re ridiculously jealous.

Not just because doughnuts are one of the most delicious and tastiest-smelling delights in the world, but because they’re so photo-worthy too. And the glosses do the joy of doughnuts total justice.

The Krispy Kreme lip glosses come in a number… Read the full story

It’s incredibly difficult to feel like a disability is preventing you from doing things everyone else gets to enjoy – especially when you’re a kid.

Getting into bed with your partner after a long day at work can often feel like one of life’s simplest but most satisfying pleasures.

So it is with a heavy heart that we must announce that it may actually be harming your health.

That’s according to a new study, published in the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, anyway, which suggests that it can ‘encourage unhealthy sleeping patterns’ and worsen pre-existing insomnia.

31 partners were observed over the course of the trial, which was randomised and… Read the full story

When I was growing up, the fashion industry’s answer to breasts bigger than a small satsuma was a mile-wide strap and oodles of fabric. Or even worse, a tankini.

If you haven’t noticed, it’s actual, proper summer right now.

It’s hot. Things are sweaty. The tights have been moved to the back of your wardrobe.

But beyond the physical, sweat-based things, what can you expect in the next two weeks?

Not everyone will feel the warmth of the summer in late June. The sun is in a good position for almost all of the star signs, but at the same time, Venus is casting a long shadow – not good.

To anyone who has ever attempted to get their armpits waxed, the idea of getting a tattoo on your underarms is a terrifying prospect.

Think of the pain. The sensitive, delicate skin. Think of the healing process, that will likely involve keeping your arm slightly outwards, so your pit doesn’t get all rubbed up the wrong way.

And that’s all for a tattoo that people will only see when you raise your arms. To loads of us, it just won’t seem worth it.

12 reasons Newhaven in East Sussex should be your next UK weekend trip

The charming working port of Newhaven gets a bad rap, which (imho) is entirely undeserved.

Newhaven has a reputation as a grimy port – indeed, three years ago, when I first cycled there from Brighton on an investigatory day trip, I took one look at the street leading downhill to the notorious ring road, spun round and cycled back in horror.

7 reasons why Worthing is a better place to live than London

Newhaven doesn’t reveal its secrets immediately, but take a little time to explore the town beyond the A259 and you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the wealth of attractions on offer, from the Napoleonic Fort guarding the beautiful beach to Paradise Park and Dinosaur Safari.

It’s got great pubs, cafés and restaurants, a clutch of little specialist shops, and the location can’t be beaten, with easy access to Brighton, London, the South Downs, the Seven Sisters – and even France on the… Read the full story

And yes, it’s all very exciting and no, I can’t wait to be married, but there’s something else I’m really looking forward to ditching, and that’s the unsolicited marital advice.

‘Marriage is hard work’ older people keep telling me. ‘You have to work at it.’

Is it? Really? Is marriage not one continuous stream of oral sex, beach holidays and Richard Curtis style dinner parties?

13 questions women have for men

So many questions (Picture: Getty)

There are some things about men that we just do not understand.

Men are way more complex than women, with their weird bathroom etiquette, their strange obsession with football and sensitivity around their perfect beards and man buns.

So obviously, we have a whole host of questions that we’ve always wanted to ask.

Like what it feels like to be able to pee standing up? And if they sit around comparing penis sizes? Or if they’ve had to fake an orgasm?

1. Peeing standing up

Unfortunately we don’t have the option of sitting and standing, and we’re forced to sit, to avoid causing a mess.

What does this feel like to pee standing up? Does it… Read the full story

Either Primark are struggling for their own ideas or they just like bringing us dupes of designer shoes. Either way, we’re happy as long as it means getting something pretty on the cheap.

Last month, Primark bought out some flats that held a strong resemblance to a pair of Prada shoes.

It seems they’re not planning to stop bringing us more designer lookalikes any time soon, as they’ve recently released a pair of slip-on loafers that emulate Gucci’s £530 New Jordaan jacquard loafers.
