Let’s scrap gender uniform lists and let men and boys wear skirts

Schoolboys wore skirts to protest a ‘no shorts’ rule despite hot weather (Picture: BBC/APEX)

You’ve got to hand it to the boys at Isca Academy in Exeter.

Faced with sweltering temperatures and a no-shorts uniform policy, they rocked up to classes wearing skirts.

And the skirts suited them.

But something struck me.

Apart from it being draconian to make boys wear long trousers in summer, why don’t boys wear skirts anyway?

Maybe it’s time to scrap gendered uniform lists and the stupid invisible social rules which dictate what men should wear and what women should wear.

The school boys weren’t the only ones to leave the trousers in the wardrobe and pull on a skirt.

Stop pressuring me to have sex on my honeymoon

‘Does anyone have any honeymoon book recommendations?’ I tweeted earlier.

I couldn’t possibly have known that the response to this question would make me so cross.

Stop pressuring me to have sex on my honeymoon

No, it wasn’t a recommendation that I should read all four volumes of Katie Price’s autobiography that distressed me. It was the snide comments, mixed in with the genuinely helpful ones, about how I ‘shouldn’t’ need books for my honeymoon.

The point of the tweet was to work out whether buying a Kindle would be cheaper than buying 7 paperbacks. I’m going away for a week and I’m a fast reader, so to make sure I don’t run out of material, I’d need quite a lot of books.

This kind of boring life detail is why I haven’t yet made it to 5,000 followers on Twitter.

First, there was the glorious revelation that you can now get McDonald’s delivered in the UK and then it was revealed that Singapore has a special McDonald’s Minions menu to celebrate Despicable Me 3.

Now, there’s a heart-warming tale of human kindness, hitting all your feels straight from a McDonalds in Indiana, USA.

Get your legs out for the lasses: why men in skirts are manly AF
It’s not just celebrities doing it (Picture: Rex/Getty)

It’s been a big week for men in skirts.

Schoolboys donned skirts to protest against an unfair uniform policy, while similar protests by French bus drivers and a British call centre worker went viral, and Paris Fashion Week was packed with gender-neutral outfits.

Let’s scrap gender uniform lists and let men and boys wear skirts

About time too, because men in skirts are manly AF.

It takes balls to wear a skirt – remember the ridicule David Beckham got for wearing a sarong?

There’s nothing better than finding a really cheap bottle of wine and discovering that it’s delicious.

Getting away with paying less than ten quid for something which tastes super fancy is the closest most of us will ever get to winning the lottery.

The Babadook, the monster from the 2014 horror film, is now a queer icon.

Don’t question it. He just is.

All over Tumblr, The Babadook has been celebrated. People have created fan art of the Babadook coming out, the Babadook wearing a rainbow pin. The Babadook heading to Pride.

It’s wonderful.

Naturally, the situation has progressed, and now, someone has created a Babadook themed dildo.

I’ve always been very envious of my soon-to-be husband’s slimness.

Stop pressuring me to have sex on my honeymoon

Despite the fact that he lives with me, and I have an attitude towards cooking with cream and butter that could only be described as liberal, he’s always been really slim.

I’m praying our kids get his genes.

But according to a recent study published in the journal of Social Sciences and Medicine, it might be that as soon as we touch back down from our honeymoon, his metabolism burns into a ball of flames.

The study looked at 8,729 men from 1999 to 2013. It discovered that… Read the full story

Yas. It’s the ultimate buzzfeast combination, totally trumping rum and raisin (sorry, old friend).

But just like most things loud and in-your-face, it’s only available in America for now.

I’m not the most fashion-conscious person out there.

15 fashion trends that every 90s kid religiously followed

Most of the time fashion just sort of makes me despair. I buried the 90s a long time ago and it keeps digging itself back up and parading its spaghetti-strapped wares all over H&M’s window. It’s enough to drive you mad.

But, contrary to what most people who look at my outfits must think, I do actually want to look nice (sometimes). But I’m regularly thwarted by my COMPLETE inability to dress myself well.

Is [insert item of clothing you’ve just dug out of the wardrobe] still in fashion?

Why north Hampshire is a great place to visit

Hit the north (Picture: Rex/Getty/Myles Goode)

I was born in Hampshire and, although I moved away, I returned there for university and have been living in Basingstoke with my husband for the last three years.

The northern part of the county has it all, with urban amenities alongside rolling countryside and quaint, hidden away villages.

It’s also just an hour from London by car or train.

I’m not sure many would think of this area as a holiday destination but I’d urge people to do so.

The Blackwater Valley River is on the border between Hampshire and its neighbours Berkshire and Surrey.

We really thought that popping your cherry meant bursting a little sack of blood during the first time we had sex? Wow.

We genuinely thought you could have an orgasm by just sticking a finger in there? Oh, we were sweet fools.

But while those youthful misunderstandings may make us laugh now, they can have serious consequences. And it’s pretty embarrassing that years later, young people are still not receiving sex… Read the full story

Don’t get me wrong – I love London.

You’ll find me waxing lyrical all over the place about it. The culture, the food, the nightlife, the job opportunities, the creativity – London is great.

19 lies Londoners tell themselves

But if I’m honest, the city has started losing some of its shine for me since I hit my 30s.

There are loads of things I could blame this on. My work is no longer based in central London, so I don’t see the sights of the city as often as I used to.

Let’s stop denying the existence of cellulite

In case you don’t carefully monitor absolutely everything that comes from the mouths of Kardashians, let me briefly fill you in on a bit of the drama.

Let's stop denying the existence of cellulite

Some photos of Kim Kardashian hanging out in a bikini were shared online.

Those pictures were, apparently, unphotoshopped and filter-free, and appeared to show some cellulite on Kim’s mega-famous butt.

This was shocking enough that the entire internet went into meltdown, Twitter was flooded with people’s opinions on Kim’s body, and 100,000 of Kim’s Instagram followers fled in horror.

Kim Kardashian has now come out to claim that the pictures were photoshopped to be more unflattering.

‘I was already not feeling like myself and when people were like sharpening them and making them look way worse,’ said Kim on The View, calling the photos ‘awful’.
