All the best things in life (Picture: Rex/Getty)

A lot of people think they ‘get’ Clapham. Big common, lots of Aussies, right? Wrong. Well, sort of.

Clapham certainly does have a wealth of green spaces.

9 reasons why Balham is the best place to live in London

And OK, a fair few Antipodeans settle here – but Clapham is so much more than this.

It straddles two boroughs, Wandsworth and Lambeth, so council tax varies depending on where you live.

Rents are still reasonable, especially towards to north and south ends.

And Clapham is one of the few places that appeals as much to families as fun loving… Read the full story

What it's like to hate your voice (Picture: Mmuffin/ Metro)

There are few moments of discomfort more intensely painful than listening to a recording of your own voice.

Do you really sound like that? Is your voice seriously that nasal and high pitched?

Man invents mini inflatable raft to save animals from dying in swimming pools

You pray that this isn’t the way everyone else hears you. You quickly shut off the recording and try to block out the memory of your own voice you next have to speak.

But the knowledge of your voice will forever linger, a niggling doubt in… Read the full story

Ah, Twitter. The water cooler for the world (or, you know, freelancers and people with too much time on their hands).

Things got pretty meta over in the Twittersphere this week when comedian and longtime Twitterer Paul F. Tompkins called out the most common meme templates on the social network.

Yep, that’s right. Turns out 140 characters is pretty restrictive when it comes to creating original gags.

Nic Chapman, makeup artist and one half of Pixiwoo, has revealed that she has multiple sclerosis (MS) after years of dealing with the condition.

Turns out there are only seven available Twitter joke structures

In an emotional video titled My Secret Illness, Nic reveals that her biological father recently died of MS – which is partly why she’s now choosing to open up about her illness.

‘He never gave me anything in my life apart from MS,’ says Nic. ‘I live with it, and I’m totally fine, but I think it’s such a big thing to actually tell everyone.’

It is a true tragedy.

Let's stop denying the existence of cellulite

You prepare a single slice of toast. You grab a just-about-ripe avocado. Then you realise: if you use the entirety of your avocado, the avocado to toast ratio will be entirely off. If you don’t use it all, the leftover bit will go brown and miserable.

You go for one of two options: you overload your bit of bread with much too much avo, or you give yourself half and attempt to wrap the rest in clingfilm for later. It doesn’t quite work. You are heartbroken.

Using animals in experiments? Normally we’d be against it.

Let's stop denying the existence of cellulite

But in what is quite possibly the only experiment that used guinea pigs as guinea pigs without being cruel, a research scientist has harnessed artificial intelligence to name pets.

It all started when Portland Guinea Pig Rescue approached scientist Janelle Shane with an unusual request: could she train a neural network to generate guinea pig names?

If you’re wondering why the animal sanctuary couldn’t just ‘do an Oliver Twist’ and work their way through the alphabet, it’s because the charity needed a way of generating a large number of names… Read the full story

Head onto Instagram and you could be forgiven for thinking that you’re the only person who takes days off from the gym and occasionally eats something greasier other than a blasted Buddha bowl.

When you’re trying to shred a few pounds, it can feel like the whole world is out to get you.

Suddenly, everyone’s throwing lavish dinners or demanding you join them for drinks. Everyone in your office decides to bring in baked goods. Your favourite snackettes go on special offer in Tesco.

For the dieter, life is hard.

High school can be one of the greatest periods in your life or it can be an absolute living hell which haunts you forever.

Either way, how popular you were at school can affect how easily you settle into university life or how keen you are to never step foot in another educational institution again.

Dad dresses his baby up as a box of KFC and a plant pot because, why not?

We’re so used to stories about women being objectified, it no longer really counts as news.

But here’s an example so ludicrous that it deserves airtime.

Dad dresses his baby up as a box of KFC and a plant pot because, why not?

It involves a 20-year-old woman being rejected from her apartment building’s communal pool for wearing a one-piece.

Why? Because her body is apparently so curvaceous that it’d send the young boys already at the pool wild.

And that, apparently, was her problem – not theirs.

Tori Jenkins’ fiance took to Facebook to call the apartment complex out on their ‘sexual harrassment and/or… Read the full story

When it comes to sun care, some of us need greater protection than others.

While the sun is damaging to all skins, people who produce more melanin tend to be able to be able to stand the sun for longer – although they can still burn. Those with very fair skin, on the other hand, only have to be out in the sun for a matter of minutes before they feel the burn.

He’s been pals with Yoriko – a fish – for a quarter of a decade and every year, he dives down to visit him.

It’s Hiroyuki’s job to keep an eye on one of the Shinto religion’s shrines which is located beneath Japan’s Tateyama Bay.

Over the years, he’s become familiar with all the underwater critters that lurk around the shine, including an Asian sheepshead wrasse called Yoriko.

To greet him, Hiroyuki gives Yoriko a kiss.

And before you start trying to piss over this particular parade, a 2016 study proved that fish are actually capable of recognising human faces.

Burger nips.

Two words no woman wants to be associated with.

metro illustrationsI wore fake nipples for a week because let's face it, we all want perky boobs

Now, I’m not nipple-shaming here. Big ones, little ones – all are blessed. But having small aureolas and stiff nipples when you’ve got small boobs can be extremely useful.

Erect nipples (although sometimes uncomfortably) have the miraculous effect of lifting your entire breast and giving it real shape.

Going bra-less when you’ve got a B-cup and it’s a bit nippy is fine – everything stands to attention, defying gravity.

But when it’s warmer and stickier, going without a bra gets trickier.

These things might help (Picture: Liberty Antonia Sadler for Metro.co.uk)

I started self-harming as a teenager.

At the time, it was to cope with distressing emotions.

My history of self-harm has left me with scars – but I see them as a mark of my survival

As I became more mentally unwell in my 20s, self-harm became an outlet for managing the harsh symptoms I was suffering. It became something I would do to prevent me ending my life.

Perhaps it became a habit; it may have even been an addiction for a short time.

I knew it worked to help me feel better so… Read the full story
