It’s Hove. By Jove (Picture: Getty)

So the old joke goes if asked if you live in Brighton it’s fun to respond: ‘Yes, well, Hove actually.’ It was a little local funny allegedly coined by former resident Laurence Olivier and now consigned to history because we’ve heard it often enough.

But the utterance of those few words was enough to distance yourself from the big and bold Brighton and place yourself in the slightly more rarefied environs of neighbouring Hove.

Those of us who know both areas that make up this marvellous twin city by the sea can tell the differences between them, and there are plenty of these.

From its history as a racy,… Read the full story

Faye Eid found out she had cancer by accident.

Following a surgery to remove a 12cm cyst on her ovary, Faye was on track to recovery – after a year of feeling awful.

She received a call from a cancer care coordinator, looking to book her in for her first oncology appointment.

It turned out that what doctors thought was a cyst was actually stage 1 ovarian cancer. The cancer care coordinator assumed the doctor had already chatted with Faye. They hadn’t.

‘It was obviously quite shocking,’ Faye’s husband, Jarred Eid, tells metro.co.uk.

The couple first met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and started talking when, upon returning to Australia, Jarred found Faye online and sparked up a conversation.

We do love Wetherspoons to bits, but we have to admit: we’ve never thought of it as a particularly upmarket, fancy establishment with strict rules and regulations.

What it's like to live with hair so long it falls to your ankles

We have gone to our local Spoons hungover and with mascara flecked on our cheeks. We have spooned in pyjamas with a jacket on top. We have headed to Spoons unwashed, unrefined, and undignified, under the assumption that they would welcome us regardless.

We never imagined that Wetherspoons could have a… Read the full story

Sorry, mum, I think they’ve been drinking (Picture: Getty)

Remember when making friends used to be easy?

Back in the day, it was as simple as who you were sitting next to in class.

Then you got your first job or went to college and somewhere in between learning the ropes or cramming for exams (while trying to recover from a series of sick hangovers) you collected a ragtag group of mates who saw you through your 20s.

But now you’ve moved away from home, hit your 30s and realised you’ve not made any friends since you were 21.

Brooklyn Beckham getting trolled for his photography is proof that we still value the starving artist trope

It’s been a rocky week for Brooklyn Beckham. After publishing his first book of photography, What I See, the internet sharpened its knives and had at it.

Mocking any aspiring photographer – and a teenager at that – definitely feels like a cheap shot. So why does it remain so hard to feel bad for him?

The first images were leaked earlier this week and the response was immediate. Art critics were aghast, fellow photographers were quietly resentful and Twitter gleefully began its favourite sport: trolling.

A lot of the ridicule centred around his particular difficulty photographing elephants.

It’s confirmed. Jay-Z accepts that he is the world’s biggest tool for cheating on Beyoncé. Thankfully, the rest of us had already reached consensus on that.

In his new album, 4:44, the rapper confesses to a host of extra-marital scandals, bitterly repenting each. ‘What good is a menage a trois when you have a soul mate?’ is just one of the many soul-searching questions posed in the new release.

‘What am I doing,’ I thought, as I got off the bus with the guy I’d just picked up on a TV show.

Life was pretty weird this time last year – despite my best efforts, I was unemployed, pretty much penniless and stranded in London.

Why do homeless people in London spend their time in TV show audiences?

As I navigated through a city that felt incredibly overwhelming to someone who’d spent the last four years chilling out in the Devon countryside, I stumbled across a TV show that needed people to sit in the audience… Read the full story

Happy Canada Day!

Today is about celebrating the great nation that is Canada – a country that brought us Ryan Gosling, Justin Bieber, that man in the green mask and maple syrup. Oh yes and mounted police.

Millions will commemorate the date Canada became a fully fledged nation in its own right with feasts, fireworks, parades and red and white flags.

Here are some great quotes to share as well as some patriotic songs to sing.

Wedding planning: How I’m getting seriously organised about my big day

While that doesn’t make me an expert on wedding planning, it does make me pretty knowledgeable about being engaged for a week.

It’s an exciting, very happy time which you will spend drunk on both love and all the champagne people keep giving you. (It’s the best kind of drunk.)

But it’s also a pretty overwhelming experience. Here are some of the normal (for me, anyway) things you’ll experience in the first week of being engaged.

I’ve been worrying about my plastic use for a while now.

How long does it take the contraceptive pill to work?

It blows my mind that every single bit of plastic ever made still exists, and that we use that material so freely.

Humans are quite literally trash, huh?

Scientists predict there will be more plastic than fish in the ocean by 2050 which is a pretty hideous thought, especially if you like a little splash about on your hols.

There’s no denying that dairy-free milks are all the rage at the minute.

Is nut milk even that good for you?

More and more people are ditching cow’s milk, with reasons ranging from lactose intolerance, being morally against the dairy industry, or just being grossed out that they’re essentially suckling on the teat of another mammal. Yummy.

Soy, cashew, hemp, rice – you name it, there’s probably a ‘milk’ made out of it.

But have you ever properly looked at the ingredients list of your moo-free milk?
