Cards Against Humanity
(Picture: Val D’Aquila on Flickr / Creative Commons)

You’re at that stage of the evening when everyone’s a bit merry totally off their face and you’ve got the socially acceptable pleasantries out of the way.

There’s only one thing for it…

1. How many people in this room will take me off their Christmas card list if I play the dead celebrity card?

2. Not sure if getting this out with my grandparents round was genius or a death wish.

3. I don’t know what this word means and I’m afraid to ask.

4. I can’t decide if this is funny, genius, the best night ever or if I and everyone I know are just really, REALLY bad people.

Many people now leave having children until their late thirties, but not everyone waits until they’ve established a career and bought a house.

I’d had my three daughters by the age of 28.

And, do you know what, it’s not as scary as you might think.

Here’s what I’ve learnt from having children when I was young.

1. Your mum will want to be known as aunty, not grandma.

2. You’ll be at home covered in baby sick whilst your mates are out clubbing and covered in their own.

3. You get asked for ID in the supermarket whilst buying nappies and wine.

4. When you’re out with friends you’ll… Read the full story

Middle class graffiti

The writing’s on the wall for graffiti.

There was a time when graffiti was all swear words, calls for revolution and illegible tags. But those days are over.

Nowadays graffiti’s all polite disses and superfoods. Seriously.

Here are the most exceptionally middle class things to ever be scrawled on a wall.

Hot chilli peppers could help people stop overeating, scientists have discovered.

Chillies contain an active component called capsaicin, which gives them their heat.

It has already been shown in studies that capsaicin is linked to reduced food consumption.

The hottest thing you'll put in your mouth today. Fact (Picture: Tesco)

The hottest chilli pepper money can buy has just gone on sale at Tesco

Now the scientists have a better understanding of why.

In a study published in PLOS ONE, researchers revealed that the receptors that respond to heat from chillies (known as TRPV1) are linked to gastric nerves.

The gastric nerves tell people how full they are and when to stop eating.

People who eat high fat diets may have weakened hot chilli… Read the full story

Thought you couldn’t get any closer to your best friend? Think again.

Female friendships are known for their high levels of intimacy, but if you feel like simply knowing every minute detail of your best friend’s sex life, being registered as their next of kin, and seeing them naked ALL THE TIME isn’t intimate enough, then the Friends Forever Tampon is for you.

Friends Forever Tampons are two tampons connected by one string (although apparently a seven way version is in the works for #UltimateSquadGoals), and have been given the strap line ‘let friendship flow’.

But what happens if you’re not ‘in sync’ with your BFF?

XX things men don’t understand about make up (Alice) Source: Getty Images Credit: METRO/mylo

There are plenty of guys who understand make-up, who like it, who even wear it (I had my own wedding face done by a chap with fantastic skills).

But of course the majority of make-up wearers are women and the majority of men don’t really ‘get’ the appeal of buying and applying cosmetics, the intricacies, the mysteries, the joy that those of us who do wear it feel when we open up our cases.

And so after a little straw poll among like-minded ladies, here are eleven things we believe men don’t really understand about make-up.

1. The natural look

Photographer George Logan created beautiful photographs that raise awareness about wildlife trafficking and the displacement of animals.

He took photos at the Born Free sanctuaries in Ethiopia, South Africa and Cameroon to help combat wildlife trafficking, the fourth largest illegal trade in the world.

It is estimated the illegal wildlife trade generates between $7.8 and $10 billion a year and The Economist suggests it is exceeded only by the illegal trades in drugs, counterfeit goods and people.

Happy days (Picture: Rex Shutterstock)

Teaching is the best job in the world.

Like many jobs there are stresses but unlike many others there is lots of work to take home.

That’s right – we have homework each night, at weekends and even during the many holidays (something most people comment on).

And there are a few other things about teaching you might only fully understand when you’re involved in it.

1. Yes it’s true – teachers have ‘hidden’ favourites

Some children are just nicer and more pleasant than others – that’s normal and natural.

We can’t like them all, even though we try to, but so long as we treat… Read the full story

ThInner Beauty is a Photoshop craze where people slim down women’s photographs – without their consent – to make them thinner.

As well as simply being horrible little trolls, the people who take part in this ‘game’ – which has also been referred to as ‘digital liposuction’ as well as ‘Project Harpoon’ – believe they’re fighting back against ‘fat acceptance’ and ‘feminists’.

Take caution before you post #foodporn from Germany: your Instagram pics could be illegal.

According to German newspaper Die Welt, German chefs find #foodporn photos as annoying as everyone else does, but they can actually do something about it.

Dr Niklas Haberkamm, a partner at corporate law firm LHR, told Die Welt: ‘An elaborately arranged dish in a restaurant can be a copyright-protected work.’

The rule applies in well-established restaurants where chefs artfully style signature dishes.

Before sharing your gourmet snap you have to ask the chef for permission otherwise you risk getting a copyright notice.

Reading on a train gif

Benefits of books, beyond all the joy of escaping to another world.

A city in Romania has offered a major incentive for anyone who prefers reading a good book on public transport over scrolling through Instagram.

For a week in June, the city of Cluj-Napoca allowed passengers to ride the bus for free, as long as they read a book onboard.

The initiative was proposed by book-lover Victor Miron, who explains that he wanted to encourage more people to read while they travelled around the city.

17 things only real book lovers will understand

Victor pitched his idea to the mayor, who loved it.

He, in turn, shared the proposal on his Facebook, and it received a great response.

So, after a year of work, they made it happen.

Only for a week, mind, but it was still pretty magical.

Here’s hoping this idea goes… Read the full story

The results, forming the UCP-UMCG project (named after the hospital in which she stayed) are hauntingly beautiful.

She told metro.co.uk: ‘At first, I made the photos for myself. Just for dealing with all my emotions and [taking] the opportunity to express them in front of my camera.
