I was referred for therapy for the first time at uni (Picture: Mmuffin for Metro.co.uk)

Although I had been ill since I was a young teenager, having suffered from depression and anorexia, the first time I was offered specialist therapy was while I was away at uni.

My GP prescribed anti-depressants and referred me to the student mental health service.

‘It’s like a tap that won’t turn off,’ says Sarah Powell, describing her anxiety during Metro’s podcast, Mentally Yours.

‘It’s a voice in my head that goes over and over and over and sometimes it gets really mean, (saying) things that you would never say to another person, and things that if somebody said them to you you’d be like “I’m never seeing this person again”.’

She added: ‘It’s a loud voice asking lots of questions, a lot of ‘what ifs’ and also doing this crazy risk assessment on everything.’

Anxiety, triggers and treatments were the topic of the latest mental health podcast.

Sarah began suffering from anxiety when she was 15, and for her it’s always been physical as well as mental, beginning with ‘that weird tummy thing’ – the feeling of tightness and weight many will relate to.

Her triggers were performance anxiety before social events, and the general feeling that ‘everyone’s got to like me’.

She said:… Read the full story

What makes a perfect trip?

It’s an ongoing debate between young and old alike – and one which may never be answered.

Is it about being a ‘traveller’ as opposed to a ‘holiday maker’?

One thing is for sure, there’s nothing quite like a night on the town to give you an entirely unique look at the culture of your destination. So it’s no surprise that clubbing holidays have become a huge trend in their own right.

A few years ago it was simply a matter of heading to Ibiza or Magaluf to guarantee you’d find a brilliant nightclub, but these days things have become more competitive and there are so many night clubs popping up around the world, it’s hard to know where to start looking.

Scene by Thomson has made the search for the perfect clubbing holiday a lot easier by pulling together some of the best clubbing locations around the world.
