It’s going to be hell ahead (Picture: Mmuffin for Metro.co.uk)

It is that time of year again; the time of year that all teachers adore and all parents detest: the summer holidays.

It’s seven weeks of trying to entertain kids with activities that will help them, rather than just going with your natural instinct of planting them down in front of the TV and letting CBeebies take the strain.

This is Lara.

She’s a rescue puppy who is keen on helping other dogs less fortunate than herself.

Do contraceptive pills expire?

Now eight months old, she was rescued from the streets of Brazil by owner Suelen Shaumloeffel.

And she clearly remembers how tough street life was because when she saw a homeless dog on a cold evening, she dragged her new blanket out to share it with him.

What does the expiry date on your contraceptive pill mean?

Time for some honesty: I have never, ever, not once, looked at the expiry date on my contraceptive pill.

I never really thought about checking. I get prescribed three or six months’ worth, take ’em over the next three to six months, and assume that my doctor’s timed the prescription well enough that the pills won’t go bad in the meantime.

Is Wimbledon sexist?

So an important note, for anyone as foolish as me: contraceptive pills do indeed have expiry dates, and you really should check yours out.

If you have a nose around your contraceptive pill’s packaging – the foil bit,… Read the full story

Australians are a nation of lads – they’re always up for a cold beer or three.

So it’ll come as no real surprise to discover that they’ve got their own Beer Can Regatta in Darwin.

Drinking three cups of coffee a day could add years to your life, suggest studies

That’s right, Aussies are combining their extensive beer consumption with a commitment to recycling by creating boats out of cans.

Some crafts are also constructed from soft drink tins, bottles and milk cartons and they’re all raced along the shores of Mindil Beach.

There are three main races.

Sometimes you get bored of sipping espresso out of a tiny cup. We get it.

You could try a jazzy latte or some flavoured syrup, but why do that when you can ditch the concept of liquid coffee entirely, and consume your espresso in the form of a squishy little ball?

I found being a teenager pretty tough. All those raging hormones, the feeling of never quite ‘fitting in’, the pressure to do well at school, the joy and pain of first love…

In fact, I think the only thing that kept me sane was reading.

I would escape into fantastical worlds of witches and wizards (Terry Prachitt) or read stories about characters I could relate to (Adrian Mole) or about characters I couldn’t relate to but wanted to be (Sweet valley High).

However, the choices for young adults were fairly limited back then. Thankfully, nowadays the YA genre has really come into its own! There is a lot of variety and many of these novels appeal… Read the full story

Many of us would associate going to a festival with music, food and having a pint, or three, in the sun (or the rain).

It’s essentially all part of the vibes.

School’s (almost) out for summer. But I’ll miss our infant days. (Picture: Getty)

My seven-year-old has less than two weeks left in the infants before he moves up to the juniors in September.

It seems no time at all since I was busy sewing up the hem of his school trousers on the first day of Reception because they were far too long. Or since he was learning his alphabet and reading Biff and Chip books on repeat.

Part of me misses those days. Because while I thought Biff and Chip were annoying at the time they are NOTHING on Horrid Henry – his new favourite books.

Chipotle is testing queso cheese sauce and they’ve official won us back over

Can we get a ‘YAAAAS!’.

Chipotle fans are finally getting what they’ve been craving for so long: queso cheese sauce.

The chain is notoriously lacking in cheese sauces for its burritos and bowls. They’ve always maintained the ingredients needed in queso to perfect its texture are too artificial.

Is Wimbledon sexist?

Last year, Chris Arnold, Chipotle’s Communications Director, told MUNCHIES: ‘Queso is something that we do get requests for from time to time, but it’s very difficult to do it in a way that is consistent with our food philosophy.

‘To make queso in a way that is stable on the service line pretty much requires artificial ingredients (such as stabilizers to keep its consistency). That’s just not what we do.’

But, then again, they have had to be extra careful about all that stuff since the e-coli outbreak. It’s been struggling to make… Read the full story
