Finally, after months of near death experiences and emptying your wallet for lessons, the day comes to take the practical driving test.

If you thought learning to drive was an emotional rollercoaster, be prepared for the car crash of emotions you feel when you actually pass.

It’s hard to cope with success after 40 minutes of anxiety-ridden driving under the scrutiny of an examiner.

Here’s how the nine emotions play out:

1. Disbelief

You’re joking right? I didn’t fail? How did I not fail? Don’t toy with my emotions examiner.

2. Acceptance

You realise they’ve handed over a pass certificate – unless this is a very cruel and elaborate joke, you have actually passed.

3. Elation

A rush of joy fills your body as you begin to comprehend that this is not a joke and you are… Read the full story

Freedom to be an octopus (Picture: Abe Green)

Because the Starbucks mermaid can be whatever she wants to be.

Abe Green is an artist with a unique purpose in life: to give the Starbucks mermaid the freedom and life satisfaction she deserves.

We only get to see the top half of the Starbucks mermaid.

We don’t even know her name.

She’s forced to smile, topless, and tirelessly promote coffee.

But outside the shot, who KNOWS what she could be up to.

Freed from the restrictions of silently representing Starbucks, the Starbucks mermaid can be anything she chooses.

She can be a can can dancer, if she wants to.

Make sure you’re wearing your best trunks (Picture: SWNS)

Welcome to the world’s first ‘sky pool’ – coming to Nine Elms, London.

The glass-bottomed pool will allow residents to swim across London’s skyline, 10 storeys (that’s 35 metres) off the ground. In other words, there will be 20cm of glass between you in your swimming trunks and the cool London air.

Yep. After you.

The completely transparent pool will act as a swimmable bridge, suspended between two blocks of flats, enabling residents (and residents only – sorry) to travel from one to the other in style.

It will form part of the £15bn Embassy Gardens development in Nine Elms, where flats will cost upwards from £602,000. Developers Ballymore say the pool, which has already been granted planning permission, will be the first… Read the full story

The lady and her tramp (Picture: SWNS)

A holidaymaker has adopted the dog who defended her while she was being hassled by two men on a beach in Crete.

Georgia Bradley was approached by the men on the remote stretch of beach while her boyfriend was in a nearby cafe.

The men became increasingly aggressive as she refused their advances.

She declined to join them for a drink and, when one of them grabbed her by the arm, a scruffy black dog ran to her rescue, barking at the men. The stray then stood by her side until they left.

‘She saved me,’ said Georgia, 25, from Calstock, Cornwall. ‘She must have noticed something was wrong. When I went back to the apartment she followed me and finally let… Read the full story

This is what I learnt from a year of dates

Before 2014, dating to me was just something other people did.

I hadn’t been on a proper date in seven years, so be under no illusion that this year of dates was a fluke and my love life until this point had gone swimmingly.

Having been out of (sober) practice for such a long time, I set myself a dating challenge – to go on as many dates as I could mentally handle over the space of a year and to write a book about it. Sounds simple enough, doesn’t it?

I learnt fairly quickly that there are a lot of men out there who will lie about their height.

Guys, seriously this has to stop. I hate to break it to you but if… Read the full story

Over three quarters of Brits think they didn’t receive enough sexual education when they were younger and, judging by the results of a new survey, we’re inclined to agree.

A new study has revealed that the average Brit is still confused by the name, the symptoms and the consequences of sexually transmitted infections; with many getting the names of STIs confused with everyday objects.

In a poll of 2,372 sexually active adults, aged 18-65, by MedExpress.co.uk, 15 per cent thought syphilis was the name of a heavy metal band and 9 per cent got chlamydia confused with the flower camellia.

A boyfriend could never bring this much joy (Picture: Getty)

Of course having a boyfriend is great, but let’s be honest – a freshly cooked bowl of sweet potato fries is way better.

Boyfriends are fun, and they do little cute things like cuddle you during a bit of Corrie, but can they really outdo a freshly baked Victoria sponge? No, no they cannot.

Food is better in so many way, it’s always there for you, smells delicious, and never judges you.

Can a boyfriend meet all of those requirements? You know the answer.

Here’s 15 reasons why food is better than a boyfriend.

1. Choices galore

When it comes to food there is none of this only being allowed one type of food only.

Presenting the newest way to make it look like you’ve made an effort.

The catchily named hun is this season’s biggest hair trend, and it’s basically the beauty world’s sneaky way of making a lazy day hairstyle seem cool. Genius.

The hun, or half-bun, is when you wear the top half of your hair in a mini bun, and let the bottom half flow free and loose.

Loads of celebs – from Jennifer Lopez to the Olsens – are doing it, which means it’s a proper trend. Not just something a bunch of beauty editors made up.

A new advert from Australian company Unicharm has incurred the wrath of the internet, attracting accusations of fat-shaming and period-shaming.

The commercial, called Ugh Moments, sees menstrual products brand Sofy BeFresh promote their new sanitary pads as the perfect antidote for the gross feelings you get when you’re on your period.

The story of the advert is pretty simple.

The woman has an alter-ego, to represent that ‘ugh’ feeling.

Alter-ego Ugh turns up when she gets her period.

The problem with Ugh?

She’s a few sizes bigger than her non-period counterpart.

Ever have that feeling? That feeling of utter panic and dread when you have to go and visit a relative who doesn’t live within Zones 1-6?

You’re probably going to encounter these 16 things and we’re not sure if you’re going to be able to cope…

1. People speak to you at bus stops. And not as a precursor to mugging you or chatting you up. Just to pass the time. A guy blessed me when I sneezed at a Kent bus stop once. Weird.

2. Train stations only have two platforms. Sorry, what?

3. They also don’t house a Starbucks. Or even a shop. Just a closed ticket office. And a poster for… Read the full story

We can’t get enough of those hella crazy shakes.

First, we had freakshakes (pints of Nutella, pretzels, salted caramel, brownies, thick sweet sauces and a whole lotta cream), then we had the Nutella doughnut shake (sucking Nutella milkshake through an effing Nutella doughnut), then someone deep fried the ruddy things. And now we have the boozy cereal shake.

This is totally worth getting out of bed for.

To give them their full title, the Boozy Lucky Charms cereal milkshakes with marshmallow frosting are the creation of US food blogger Jessica from How Sweet It Is.

And these are so, so sweet.

Another reason not to smoke.

Many smokers say that fear of gaining weight is one of the reasons they won’t give up the habit.

But in reality, smoking could be giving them a pot belly.

Scientists at the University of Glasgow found that while smokers tend to have a lower overall weight, fat is more likely to distribute into central areas, like the belly.

Professor Naveed Sattar, who co-led the study, said: ‘One barrier to smoking cessation is the fear of weight gain and, while smoking lessens weight overall, it tends to push fat more into the central area so waist circumference… Read the full story

Sure, there are some perks to being tall, but sometimes it would be nice to drop a few inches and live in the average height bracket.

With people staring and clothes not fitting, it’s not always an easy ride living in a world designed for smaller beings.

2. People asking how the weather is up there. Hahaha, never heard that one before…
