‘For me anorexia just became like a diseased coping mechanism, the same way some people turn to drink and drugs,’ says comedian Dave Chawner.

‘It was about approval, it was about addiction, it was about control.’

Dave was speaking about his history of eating disorders in the latest episode of our mental health podcast, Mentally Yours.

He also explains how it began in his teens and he went to the GP about physical symptoms but neither he not his doctor realised they were a result of anorexia.

‘It took me up til I was 21, when I was working away in a boarding school over the summer holidays, and I had no control over my food, you could only eat three times a day and it was only pizza, pasta, chips, and that was it.

‘I started skipping meals, started coffee-loading, started binging, purging, exercising during the night and one of the teachers came up to me and she… Read the full story

You’d be forgiven for thinking that the words ‘Camilla’ and ‘sex shocker’ in a headline would mean that a certain royal couple had been spotted trying on rubber corsets at Coco de Mer.

It's physically impossible to open the emergency exit on an airborne plane

But no. In this case, the Camilla who’s provided the sex shocker is Camilla Thurlow, of Love Island fame. Everyone’s favourite nice girl, Camilla answers the question ‘what if the producers put an actual real person on telly?’

And in a bid to try and help her get her size under control, she’s started swimming lessons.

The nine-year-old was rescued by a protection centre after being overfed by her previous owner, and staff at the centre have put her on a hydrotherapy course in a bid to get her to lose half of her weight.

When nipple nail art came onto our radar, we thought we’d seen it all.

Once you’ve painted a teeny tiny areola onto your pinkie, surely you’ve reached the zennith of nail art achievement.

Housework chores ranked from worst to best

Oh no no.

What’s even more exciting than nipple nails?

Obviously it’s tampon nails.

Instagram Photo

Invented by conceptual artist Annelies Hofmeyr, the nails even feature appropriately coloured string detailing. Annelies used a white base to represent the tampon, red paint for the blood, and even made her nail shape a square/ oval hybrid to mimic the shape of a tampon.

Basically, the woman is a genius.

Annelies shared her picture with the simple caption ‘I really don’t understand why my tampon nails never became a trend’.

Us neither, Annelies, us neither. Though, given that the comments on her photos include the words ‘genius’ and ‘f**king… Read the full story

You’ve probably heard that the key to happiness is letting go of negative thoughts.

Or just maybe it’s down to joining the mindfulness bandwagon.

But according to new research, being generous to others could clear your path to joy.

While Instagram is good at providing all kinds of fitness and wellness inspiration, it does have a diversity problem.

We’re used to seeing limber, lean, white people doing downward dogs on mountains and jogging across ravines.

Why are we still surprised that nice girls have sex?

But what about the rest of us? Those of us who aren’t slim, white, straight, able-bodied? Those of us who don’t fit into the stereotypical ‘outdoorsy’ image?

Well, the Unlikely Hiker is an account dedicated to you.

It was founded by Jenny Bruso, who calls herself a ‘queer, fat, mid-thirties, writer, Unlikely Hiker’.

To be fair, self-care is a pretty clever way to sell stuff.

It sets up luxury products as a way to treat yourself, to look after your wellbeing, to make a smart choice, like an adult who makes themselves dinner instead of buying McDonald’s.

It’s smart, because it sets up spending money as a way you’re looking after yourself. You shouldn’t feel guilty about spending absurd amounts of… Read the full story
