Growing up on Roald Dahl is one of British childhood’s most treasured moments.

From the mad concoctions of Willy Wonka, to the heartwarming, height-spanning friendship at the heart of The BFG, Roald Dahl’s stories are an intrinsic part of young UK life, teaching us morals and making us laugh from day one.

From today – which would have been Roald Dahl’s 101st birthday – McDonald’s is taking it upon themselves to carry on that tradition, with the launch of a new series of Roald Dahl mini books, packaged safely… Read the full story

Gee, thanks (Picture: Getty)

When it comes to losing your virginity, some people meet their first love at 15, date for X months before deciding they’re ‘ready’, and do the deed.

Others, however, were on the shy side, went through education with a gender ratio that didn’t work out in their favour, or were just a bit unlucky, and therefore managed to make it into their twenties (or beyond), without having, well, done it yet.

Guys spill the beans on how they lost their virginity

But it’s fine.

Everyone’s life progresses at their own pace.

But while we late bloomers are aware sex isn’t the be all… Read the full story

As Patsy Klein once sang, sometimes it’s hard to be a woman.

But how hard it is depends on where you live, according to a new study commissioned by BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour.

PSA: Tiny baby hedgehogs look remarkably like little ball sacks

The National Centre for Social Research has looked at various factors like gender pay gap, housing, life satisfaction and wellbeing to determine which areas work best for women…and which don’t.

Data from 380 local authorities were compared, while Northen Ireland was assessed via data from the Office for National Statistics’ 2106 Annual Population Survey and the 2011 Census.

How to protect your teeth from damage caused by morning sickness

Being pregnant is a bit sh*t, really.

Yes, you get a baby at the end of it, and you get to spend nine months being a walking embodiment of the miracle of life. Which is pretty cool, I guess.

But that glow everyone bangs on about? It’s mostly sweat.

Your feet are swollen, your back aches, your boobs have made even your most giant smock dresses a poor fit, and you feel nauseous well beyond the window of morning sickness.

And, as a handy little bonus, it turns out that all that throwing up in the morning is also causing damage to your teeth. Great.

If your partner has a mental illness, take the time to learn about it

Even as someone who has been their partner for over four years, and has lived with mental illness for all of that time, I still find it hard to talk about mental illness with my significant other.

Women are more likely than men to adopt uncontrollable numbers of cats

I know I should be comfortable doing it – more comfortable than with people besides my psychiatrist, at least.

But while I can fathom a little conversation about it, it’s generally when I’m in a good place – not when I actually need help.

You can never have enough cats, amirite?

Well no, I’m wrong. Because having more than about four is unmanageable and unless you’ve got a team of helpers, you can’t possibly give them the attention they need.

But some people can’t help but collect more and more pets.

In other words, they’re ‘animal hoarders’ – people who have more animals than they can cope with.

The NHS actually classify animal hoarding as a mental illness, along the lines of regular hoarding. And apparently, it’s something women are more at risk of.

After beholding dickliner and penis brows, we honestly didn’t think we could be shocked by any new makeup trend.

How morning sickness can damage your teeth

But something about this one has us doing a double take.

All over Instagram, steady-handed makeup artists are now doing reverse winged eyeliner.

No, we’re not talking about the similarly named reverse liner, which refers to just painting eyeliner underneath the eye.

Instead, we’re talking about eyeliner that wings inwards instead of outwards. As in, the wing bit flicks towards the nose, instead of out to the ears.

That’s a bit confusing to explain, so… Read the full story

When antidepressants can quite literally save your life, the minor side effects feel like something you’ll just put up with.

Sure, I might need to down water every few minutes because of constant dry mouth, but that’s better than lingering thoughts of topping myself.

Yes, my sleep schedule may be a little wrecked, but anything that gives me the motivation to get me out of bed in the morning makes that worth it.

But that doesn’t mean we should just dismiss side effects entirely.

People’s experiences of taking antidepressants need to be talked about, and they need to be taken seriously. We can’t just ignore people’s issues with dry mouth or disrupted sleep… Read the full story

It’s Cycle to Work day today. Did you know that? Did you cycle? Did you? Did you?

How to start cycling to work without dying in the process

I did. (Regretted it every pedal stroke because hello, there’s a right wind whip out there, bit dangerous, hey.)

I really like cycling. I get made fun of for cycling. But I would rather cycle 10 miles to work than get the tube because I hate human beings and also public transport is expensive.

BFF’s forever (Picture: Wireimage)

There has been the predictable amount of outrage from the hardcore parenting brigade at Angelina Jolie’s recent comments regarding her relationship with her children whom she claims are her best friends.

14 reasons why you should love being a single parent

According to some, the idea of having a relationship that reaches beyond that of a strict parent/child one should be discouraged and could lead to confusion in terms of boundaries.

Our sole function as a parent is to teach, guide and mentor our children, and give them consequences when they misbehave.

In short, a parents job is more complicated than… Read the full story

Today thousands of women across Britain will be writing words on their bellies and posting photographs on social media.

It’s all part of a drive to raise awareness of conditions that affect women that aren’t usually discussed.

Whether that be endometritis or cystitis – the hope is that by talking about it, it will help those suffering in silence.

Here is everything you need to know – and how you too can get involved.

How do you split your finances? (Picture: Getty)

I’ll start with a confession: I’m not married.

But that doesn’t mean that my opinion doesn’t matter on this issue.

11 people share their partner’s most annoying habits

Partly because I don’t see the difference between being married and being in a long-term, co-habiting relationship; except that the latter probably means you’re in less debt.

My dad gave me a lot of advice growing up.

Rubbing oil and turmeric on your forehead to treat a headache wasn’t one that I paid much attention to. Although it did mean I was well ahead of the turmeric trend so… Read the full story

I spent an ungodly amount of time in Specsavers last week.

25% of us have stopped drinking with mates because they're all drunken messes

Aside from cracking vision, one other great thing came from my lengthy period in their waiting room.

After staring at the mint green walls for a while, my focal point moved to a box on the floor. What was this mysterious box? My eyes slowly came into focus. Images appeared.

It was a charity collection bin for old glasses, for an organisation for Vision Aid Overseas.

Which gave me a little lightbulb moment.

For Blue Bailey-Hunt and Dean Pike, the straight up, lovey-dovey wedding didn’t quite cut it – instead, they decided to go full ghoulish, dressing up as zombies to mark the occasion.
